  1. is David being put out to stud already.
  2. Rick Peterson has to apologise to anybody for his methods his results with the mets have been in the main extremely good. If you look at Jorge Sosa, Oliver Perez, John Maine and (to a lesser extent Glavine & Hernandez) you see guys who are pitching better since working with Peterson then before. And while inline rollerblading may have been good for Heath Bell's weight, you'd have to agree that it's pretty up there on the 'high risk' activity chart. Not as high as riding in a cab to Shea or being ferried around in a similar automobile late at night in Miami, but higher then doing a spinning class which is great for keeping the weight down too.
  3. the mets have CLEARLY wanted Rickey to be involved in a coaching perspective for a while, but Rickey wanted to remain 'able to play', which meant taking a full time position was possible. Rickey's obviously decided to let playing go and move on, the Mets are tying him to them as quickly as they can having seen the results he's been able to achieve in limited time frames.
  4. also nice job in keeping the avatars.

    Watcha Like?

fox have that pretty cool tool HOTZONE which shows where the pitches that a hitter spanks tend to be don't they, anyone knows where they glean the info from and if it's available online?
  6. is there a rain delay?

    Grading Omar

in fairness baseball prospectus are definitely addressing some of your issues. They do a very good job of tackling leverage for relievers in their WXRL report and they've also done excellent articles about the enhanced value of players who push teams from 85 wins to 90 wins (or steps in between!).
  10. what's that about?
  11. I'm not going to condone any of Milton's actions, having said that, if you could get to talk to him, sit him down (and I get the sense that Willie & Carlos Delgado are the kinda guys who are good at this stuff) and say Listen here fella, this is a hell of a career that you're prepared to throw away. New York's the biggest stage in the world and if you're prepared to come here, keep your nose out of trouble and work hard you'll be great, if you don't the media will make your life hell - are you up for the challenge? I'd have him over Green/Chavez in a heartbeat.

  14. if we were able to have a starting outfield of Endy/Lastings, Moises & Green that they'd be fairly comfortable letting carlos go down for 15 days around the all star break. right now carlos going down means gomez is starting full stop and our starting left fielder would be Rickey Ledee. It wouldn't be pretty having a 6,7,8 of valentin, ledee & gomez,
  15. that DESPITE our being terrible for the last 3 weeks, we're still in the lead. There's a lot to be said for that, A LOT.
  16. how pissed would you be if you were lastings milledge right now . he's supposed to be about a week or so away from being ready, at that point Green'll be back up and possibly alou shortly after. If he just hadn't got injured he'd have got 100 or so at bats and may well have got a chance to kick start his career.
  17. If you call "my ball", "mine", "dummy" or anything else which might stop someone on the other team going for a ball it's an indirect free kick against you for "unsporting behaviour" (which was until recently called the marvellous "ungentlemanly conduct"). Anything that you do with your body as long as it doesn't break the other laws of the game is fair game. So when I'm going up for I header I yell (often extremely loudly, you'd be surprised the number of centre-forwards you can intimidate by just appearing to be a lunatic) "DUAN'S BALL", that's absolutely fine. Obviously baseball's a bit different in that players from opposing teams can't be 'going' for the same ball, but I think it's fair to say that if the umpire heard Rodriguez saying "I got it" and was entitled to rule him out on the basis of some catch all expression of "interference" you wouldn't hear much protests from anyone.

also what's most important is the relative display of plate discipline. If Endy can continue to get on base at .360+ clip, slg 400-440 and play stellar defense, he's not doing us any harm at all. [on edit moved the slg'ing down a bit]
  19. Edgy DC wrote: But the editorializing here is just as ridiculous: "Cynthia Rodriguez - A-Rod's wife and mother of their 2 1/2-year-old daughter, Natasha - was nowhere to be seen during the slugger's big night out on the town, which occurred the evening before the last-place Bronx Bombers' pathetic 7-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays." for all they know she was upstairs having a 3some with Jeter and Giambi.
  20. summer for 'em. I really couldn't care about personal lives. I think it's more hilarious that the go-ahead run last night was from a steal of home off andy pettitte.
  21. having heard him on mlb radio he came across as a fairly smart 'non-jock' type guy. Kinda shy & quiet but pleasant too.
  22. what's more interesting to is that the a large number of positive tests have been by what could be best described as 'marginal relievers'. two theories here 1. Guys with most to make/least to lose from juicing are guys who go from being 26th men to 25th. 2. Relievers are the people who need help (usage patterns & recovery time probs) the most.
  23. Edgy DC wrote: Not a lot of moves working out today. Plenty of time left for the Schoeneweis signing to, um, fully reveal itself. yeah, I know, and the market for 'established' left handed relief pitching was so insane this winter that the rotting carcass of Mike Stanton got a 2 year deal plus option at worth 5.5 - 8 million. I just wish they'd gone the Oliver route: ie: sift through the retreads in spring training/start of the season rather then commit to 3 years.
  24. i'll say this, I don't think Schoeneweis was one of Omar's best moves.
  25. in fairness to wang, he's looked great.
