  1. I've never been big on Terry Collins, earlier on in the year I think I posted how I reckoned he's "all intensity" personality would lead one to tune out at some stage. Similarly it's not like he's proven he can manage a bullpen or a lineup. However, I REALLY don't think Wally Backman is the answer. It might be 'entertaining' but having someone who looks to me to have all the ingredients of a sociopath in charge of a team of is not going to end well. I also think it'll be embarrassing to be around.
  2. I think if you went to RA Dickey with 36 million for next 4 seasons he'd be up for it. I think it'd be the balance between upside and security, he's getting 3.5 mill extra for next and he's employed till 2016. Would you go for it?
  3. Byrdak is definitely a very tradable commodity when he's only been asked to handle lefties he's been very good.
  4. are what the Mets have to take for you not to start trading the pieces. If we're OUT OUT OUT the tradable assets that we should be flipping I reckon are Byrdak, Hairston, Rauch, Young and depending on where you stand as to his defence/offence capabilities going forward, Murphy. There's nobody there (maybe with the exception of Murphy) who's going to bring anything like a Wheeler, but if there's one thing we've learnt this year it's that having a bunch of guys able to come up and give you SOMETHING from the AAA club does matter. (We rode hot hands for the first half pretty well) I'm saying if they don't get 3/6 they should work the phones very hard.
  5. I don't know, I think there's a lot we know in 7/8 days and I'm prepared to wait to figure it out.
  6. I wouldn't be surprised to Omar Q claimed by the Braves.
  7. I wouldn't have any problem at all with us having a total platoon outfield. Valedspin - Nieuwy - Duda vs righties, Bay - Torres - Hairston vs lefties. Valedspin's ability to play the infield makes that a possibility. Give it a run for 2 weeks and see how we go. Between PH'ing and relief pitchers we'll see who steps it up vs the other hand. Keith Law made a good point a couple of weeks ago, the important is to get value of what people CAN do rather then obsessing what they can't. Put them all doing things they can do and we get the most out of them. If we put them in the position to succeed and they still don't we'll be out of the race and can trade the parts to get better for next year (you'd have to think Hairston, Byrdak and maybe even Rauch would net something worthwhile.
  8. shit game to lose cause it would have been a great one to win.
  9. this hasn't been a fun half inning. funny most of us would agree with going for the 5 out save.
  10. though nice play by swisher there in fairness.
  11. I don't know if it's the entire AL, the yankees or just Freddy Garcia, but I've caught the last few innings of the Yankees vs the Angels and JESUS it's boring.

  13. I voted Havana & Providence. Havana cause it'd be so fucking amazing and Providence cause my american cousins have a huge summer house in Rhode Island (near Newport rather then Providence) that I'd like to go back to. The ASB is crap.
  14. yeah I'm of same opinion as metirish - tbh the Dickey being there is the achievement,

  16. I do like the way Terry is going totally batshit with the righties though. It's sort of daring them to come in and use a righty reliever at some point which could set up all sorts of fun. Don't forget these guys don't know how to do a double-switch.
  17. I quite liked Philly when I was there. Stayed on Rittenhouse Square, was a nice part of town.

  19. does Jeff Kent get 2b thoughts?

    Bay

what happened with Bay that was particularly scary was the way his neck bent. I saw it live and I genuinely shuddered because the whole thing was clearly so unnatural that it had to do damage, I did wonder who he got up to throw the ball back in.

Suffice to say it's a brutal run and you could easily see them winning only 12-16 games. We've played 24 games of these 43 and are 12-12.
  22. should also say, he kind of had his head bent inwards to the chin/neck by the impact. It wasn't nice at all.
  23. chasing fly ball managed to collide head first while sliding into the wall. He couldn't get up, Jay Bunce went all the way round, and then looked very uneasy as he left the field.

I don't think the Mets are inclined to deal their top prospects (nor should they be) and beyond that, who can they trade? Maybe they have a few guys who are not quite blue chip, but who would have some trade value. (Nieuwenhuis? Gee?) But I don't see that players of that caliber can be traded for a real difference maker. would resolve some 40man issues though. I thought they'd pull of some prospects for help moves this offseason for that reason. But I don't think they'll necessarily be moving guys that are helping. We'll know more come July, but the dynamic that creating an extra wild card has probably generated is that it keeps more teams in the race, more teams in the race means that prices for pieces are higher and so on. Who're the likely guys that could move due to a combination of redundancy in our org but upside sufficient to generate interest? Valedespin/Newey & Murphy seem like the most likely to be flipped to me. I don't think they're swapping out any of the young pitchers any time soon.
  25. I've so much time for his absolute 100% refusal to give up.
