  1. "Teufel did not immediately respond to a text message seeking comment." Does Rubin writing this not seem wrong to anyone else?

Care to tell us a little more about this? There isn't much more than that! Looking back now, he wrote to me initially with a lot of questions about how to get a book published. He wanted to know if should write his book about the top 75 Mets then get a publisher or the other way around. Then a few months later: Hi this is XXXXX form MetsFansForever.com I was wondering if you could put my blog on your links bar. That would be great. Thanks! sure thing will, woking on it now. JCL Also I was wondering if I can interview you by e-mail about your site mbtn.net. Thanks again, XXX Sure, I'd be happy to, anytime. JCL Thanks, I'll send you the questions in the next couple of days. Two months later... Hey JCL, Sorry I haven't sent you the questions. I've had family problems so the Mets took a back seat. I promise I'll get them to you by Sunday night. Thanks, XXX XXXX Then, 1 week later, via gmail IM: XXXX: hey answer me bitch JCL: Sorry, did I miss a message? the end Me thinks that the proximity of your little green gmail chat thing to that of the 'personal problems' would be the answer.
  4. just a point of reference if K-Rod gives up the winning run does that make it that he 'finishes' the game?
  5. sorry my earlier post was in reference to Valadius' "Red Flags". all I was doing with giving the defense that the Wilpons are able to give. If you have 'belief' in your guy you can imagine he makes all the calls right. And the guys who say he's a shark are just jealous cause they don't do as well. I've NO idea where along the continuum the reality is - you'd have to have a lot more information then anyone bar the main protagonists has to actually no.
  6. I totally buy that. I tell you why - volatility is the speculators friend - if you get it right. Easy example I can give you AIB shares in ireland in 2007 were at something like 24 now, this was a blue chip bank, second biggest/biggest company in ireland. Banking crash etc happened price collapsed to round about 0.20 THEN the next thing was that at the moment where the state guaranteed the banks and a few other bits happened the bank price rose to over 3. then as things got bad again the price collapsed again and effectively the shares are now worthless. Now, I know people who sold @ 24, bought @ 0.20 and sold again 3 they made *a lot* of money, yet if you said to anyone that you'd been investing in bank shares over last 5 years they'd assume you lost your shirt.
  7. at the moment I'm typing too quickly and not re reading enough. What I meant was that at one moment in time Tracksuit was in one style of dynamic relationship with Philly front office being one of 'their' beat writers. Now that relationship is different, so his interpretation of what people are saying to him needs to change. I'll put it this way, I'd expect someone in the music industry to talk to me in a very different way then they would to Mr Regional Newspaper Hack, yet if I moved to a regional newspaper which way are they talking to me. Having said that, if he's writing a love letter to Mr Amaro he's unlikely to have been played in that way. The other thing that could happen is that he got the whiff, followed up and they said - you owe us one bury it as best you can.
  8. I think tracksuit rocks. in all seriousness sources take time to develop (that's what he's having to do now with mets ones) and also as a take time to disbelieve. I wouldn't be surprised if someone in the Phillies office played him a little on this one - someone that he did have working relationship during his time there.
  9. Edgy DC wrote: Well, part of what I'm driving at is that --- if Crawford is really a relevant comp --- Alderson has some time to chew on it. I remember feeling all mopey when Jeter signed his (insane) ten-year deal, wondering how the Mets could possibly afford Edgardo Alfonzo. Two years later, Alfonzo's contract was up and Steve Phillips came in low. Wisely or not, it was the correct move. that's the bit where I realised that people who you think know nothing still sometimes know more then you.
  10. yeah I was thinking that myself - I reckon I was closest to paying it (as my deal was essentially a 2 year deal for 6 or 8) but at least it shows us all that alderson probably wasn't being a bit mad and only offering 1.5 million
  11. once we were 'out of it' we should have let him start games and see if he could figure it out, certainly once the rosters expanded.
  12. I'm not sure. 2.5 million is not a lot in the greater scheme of things and is the kind deal you throw out there on something that you think might be salvageable and if it is salvageable you've got a very important working part of your overall set up. However substitute million with billion and multiply by 10 and you've got the "Irish Banking Fuckup 2010"

DePodesta is the man for the numbers Hey batmag , hang around , this is shaping up to be a good chat..... Actually what'd be fun is if he said something outlandish "Brian Lenihan took off his shirt and challenged his junior ministers to a fight!" and then when pushed in a press conference had Brian Cowan bumbling out "Well you've got to consider the source, I mean Adam, Adam Rubin, lobbied for a job in the Dept of Finance when I was in situ there". I could see it getting ugly there as Trichet started saying that it was out of line and all bets were off.

y'know something I really don't like managers who give out about their players to the media.
  16. we'll probably never know know, but it looks like the Mets topped out at one year 3 million plus option and Takahashi bottomed at about 8 for two years. Be interesting to see where he lands - the one weird thing about the process is it could well be that he gets a decent bit less in that the one team who had a real sense of him is now out of the game. Anyway what's next on Sandy's list - offering arb or not to free agentys? tendering contracts?
  17. I'd maybe go as high as 1/3... or 2/5.5. He was VERY usable in relief, somewhat less so as a starter... and there are other options for a lefty reliever/swingman. (How much is Darren O charging, again?) Good comp - Oliver's better track record perhaps undermined a little by his age and his inability to Reliever Darren Oliver's perfect eighth inning in Wednesday's 11-7 win over Detroit earned him a nice little bonus: A $3.25 million contract for 2011. The outing was Oliver's 59th of the season and triggered the option year in his deal with the Rangers. He signed a one-year deal worth $3 million in the winter. The deal included a $3.25 million option if he reached 59 appearances, his average over the previous three years. Had he not reached the vesting option threshold, the Rangers could have bought out the deal for 2011 for $500,000. http://rangersblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2010/09/darren-oliver-pitches-an-innin.html
  18. thanks for joining in folks.
  19. ok - can other people please tell me what they'd go to if they were sandy alderson before midnight. COME ON. indulge me.

  21. were you talking to someone about Neil Prendeville
  22. I don't get the gr for Ike Davis' season. He did OK, but as a 1b man he was distinctly average - and average is fine - but Tak was a VERY good reliever and OK starter and Niese was good starter, both of those beat being an OK 1b man in my book.
  23. a) the rest of you are no fun. CF by 2012 I mean the season after this one. the contract I was proposing was essentially one which had 3.5 million salary this year (2011) and if we liked how it went and wanted to retain tak, we'd be paying 4.5 in 2012 season but if Tak became "expendable middle reliever" he'd be guaranteed 2.5 million. in essence it's a 2 year deal for 6/8 million depending on performance. My instinct is he'll be able to find someone willing to pay him more then 3 million as a starter so we're going to have to match that price but then give him some security by adding the year at the price of giving us some cost control. that's as far as I'd go, I'd like to get it cheaper but if it cost that I'd be happy. I'd be prepared to throw in a 500k for 25 games started/50 games finished but I don't see either of them happening. Last year he was our best/2nd best reliever and our 5th best starter.
  24. y'know what, here's where we can actually start our tracking of the alderson era. what would you offer takahashi (worthy of a separate Alderson tracker thread maybe). I still remember how far off base I was with Edgardo Alfonso whom I thought should have been offered Jorge Posasda money (50 or so mill for 5 years if i remember correctly) when the Giants managed to sign him for 30something for 4 years. Steve Phillips was right, I was wrong. So with Takahashi i'd offer up this. 3.5 million this year, with a 2.5 million player option/4.5 million team option for 2012.
  25. 1. Takahashi 2. Niese 3. Davis 4. Josh Thole 5. (slim pickings here) Raul Valdes
