  1. My head is spinning because more people aren't voting for Vertigo.
  2. BTW, I had no idea that Blake Edwards career went back so far. I always associated him with The Pink Panther and his comedy farces of the 70's & 80's. You learn something new...

When asked what project he wanted to do next he said "I want to do a service comedy with Cary Grant." He got his wish.
  4. The Trouble With Harry is a favorite of mine both for its dark humor and technicolor representation of autumn in New England.

  6. I always loved his appearances on Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Brilliant delivery and pointed mockery of tv commercials.
  7. A side issue: The Birds is a really great film... until you become an adult. Discuss. Not even. When I was a kid I read the Du Marier short story first and when I saw the movie I was disappointed by what was basically a slasher film version of a more subtle thriller of a story. Also, I think Hitch was shtupping Tippi Hendren or really wanted to.
  8. I was hiding under your porch because I love you.
  9. Finally saw this today with little Pedro. Very moving, creepy at parts, and just as excellent as it's predecessors.
  10. I vote for Matt Frewer a.k.a. Max Headroom as Art Howe: "Yeah, I think I'm better than Chuck Swirsky. Freakin' liberal."
  11. Part of me really wants to see this movie. I think it's that same part that made me watch "You Don't Mess With the Zohan."
  12. I was disgruntled when Pixar became part of the Disney Empire, but I'm impressed and amazed at how they've managed to maintain creative control and continue to put out excellent movies.
  13. The one I saw was basically a "comedy" about a brutal rape. I can deal w/o seeing any more misogynistic shit like that.
  14. 98) The Wizard of Oz (1939) Directed By: Victor Fleming, Starring: Judy Garland, Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger - One of the greatest screen fantasies ever and it ranks 98? Really? Really!? Actually, Radd, these are not ranked, they are in alphabetical order. 99) Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988) Directed By: Pedro Almodovar, Starring: Carmen Maura, Antonio Banderas - I saw an Almodovar film once and swore Id never subject myself to another. Ditto. So much ditto.

Seems to be a list mostly drawn from the common wisdom of greatest movies of all time with a few contemporary hits thrown in to make it edgy. Titanic and Toy Story are "edgy?" Not so much that the movies are edgy, but the list looks "edgy" because "look at me, I'm defying the conventional wisdom by including Titanic!"

  17. Ha!
  18. Hard to say. He made me stop "Monsters, Inc" because Sully riding a sled down the Himalayas was too scary, but seemed indifferent to Nemo's mother being eaten in "Finding Nemo."
  19. I'm thinking this may be a good first movie theater experience for our little one. Like metirish, I'll wait a few weeks and look for a matinee.
  20. I joined. So now you know who will be the cellar-dweller.
  21. I read the book which was pretty good. The 2-minute trailer for the movie indicates that they totally Hallmarked the story. I won't be seeing it.
  22. Ah Crash, the worst movie of the decade.
  23. There don't seem to be any video rental stores left in my burgh. I hardly watch any movies any more but when I do Netflix (usually instant view) or the public library fit the bill.
  24. There's a bit more than that, no?
  25. Whaddya know, I wrote about this movie too.
