  1. I read that they had originally planned to cast Eisenhower as himself. That would have been cool.
  2. Wow, do they have a gigantic technicolor wall at that ballpark?
  3. Star Trek V is better than most people give it credit for, until the end. A movie where they set out to find God is bound to failure. Find God and however they represent Him in film is going to be underwhelming. Don't find God (as happens in the movie) and there's no satisfying resolution at all.
  4. Iubitul wrote: This was actually a funny bit, because they said he had never faced death before... Two words - Edith Keeler. Not to mention Gary Mitchell or Sam Kirk.
  5. Better than I expected and decent overall. Would have done better to have had fewer 'splosions and more depth to the story and characters. I actually think that a sequel with this cast will be a better movie now that they've gotten past all the cutesy origin story stuff.
  6. There's a lot left unsaid in Chop Shop but I think that makes it more moving. Kid's got the whole world on his shoulders at 12.
  7. Predictable, but good performances capture the tension in the family dynamics making this movie better than it should be.
  8. Have you seen The Clash: Westway to the World. It's a pretty straight-forward documentary directed by Don Letts. Lots of good concert footage and interviews with band members and others. No campfires that I recall.
  9. "Straight to Hell" is better than 2 1/2 stars.
  10. Edgy DC wrote: Tweach his own, but I'm surprised anyone can find BB to be totally virtue-less. That's some of the best music of the twentieth century there --- as much Memphis Soul as Chicago Blues (and Aretha brought the Muscle Shoals sound). Simply as a delivery system for that music, I dig it. I also like seeing Landis use other filmmakers as actors. Like Purple Rain a good soundtrack does not a movie make. I'll take my soul & blues without endless car crashes thank you very much.
  11. Surely you can't be serious about voting for Die Hard!
  12. Matthew Broderick, Met Lovin' Big Shot.
  13. cooby wrote: Yay, the short banged bimbo is losing! IIRC, she was banged for a long time, on the stairs, in a chair...oh wait, you were talking about her hair.
  14. Ghostbusters is about as intellectual as a comedy can get. It's all based on science and stuff.
  15. If you want a pick to win this round, Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!
  16. "Field of Dreams" knocks "Coming to America" out of the game in the first inning with Joe Jackson on the bench.
  17. If this lead doesn't change hands, Vic is going to blow a gasket.
  18. Wasn't this the name of the debut album of the hip-hop group Arrested Development?
  19. themetfairy wrote: I love both of these films. Had to go with Christmas Story, but I won't be upset if Princess Bride wins. Ditto, although I voted opposite.
  20. Red head, sweet but sassy, smart, and pretty but not inaccessible. Yeah, there's a lot to love about Molly.
  21. In the first round I had to vote against both of these great movies because they were matched up with sentimental favorites of mine. And now they face one another. I went with Raiders of the Lost Ark, but man this contest just isn't fair!
  22. I went for Tootsie, a better movie overall. Interesting contest between the two-ends of the spectrum of comic movies.
  23. I voted for Rain Main because Fletch doesn't belong in this contest. Even The Last Dragon was funnier.
