I went to a wedding once where the groom was from Michigan and the bride from Nebraska. At the reception the happy couple's college buddies seized the DJ's microphone and had a duel of college fight songs.
My wish is that the Mets win the World Series this year as the start of 5 decades of Mets baseball dominance. Do you think that wish can come true and I can stop being punished for once rooting for the Yankees when I was young and foolish?
Edgy DC wrote: Scranton has precedent. John Cardinal O'Connor was called up from Scranton when he made the bigs. Classic line. I hope that if the Mets change affiliations that they pick up a team in the International League North so that that team plays more road games against Pawtucket.
Bumps are good. Better to attract discussion than to have sitting in forum no one looks at. Lots of sub-fora make sense if you have a large number of active members, but since we've got 20 to 25 active people here at any one time its overkill, IMHO.
I just checked on Washington and Baltimores affiliations and I think they would consider Norfolk prime territory. Washington's AAA team is in New Orleans and I would not be surprised if they'd want to get out of that afflicted city. Baltimore has a long-time policy of keeping their minor league teams close to home. Every minor league team in the system is in Maryland except one team in West Virginia and their AAA squad in Ottawa. I bet they'd love to get their hands on an AAA team only 4 hours from Baltimore.
Well the Tides don't need saving, it's the affiliation btw. New York & Norfolk. Any ideas on where the Mets would want to have a Triple-A affiliation if not Norfolk? Are other teams going to be interested in giving up their current affiliation to go with Norfolk (mebbe Washington or Baltimore?)? Are the Mets out of it or can they court Norfolk with the rest?
In 1996, I rooted for the Yankees to win the World Series. There were extenuating circumstances. I lived in Virginia among Braves bandwagoners who drove me nuts and it had been decades since the Yankees had had any success. What's one little World Championship? The Yankees continued success -- and the almost certainty they will win it all again this year in dominating fashion -- are my harsh penance.
They year was 2000. Hopes for the Mets were high. Then they went into St. Louis and got swept by the Cardinals starting a horrible 7-13 run and ending the Mets hopes of winning the NL East. Of course it turned out better at the end of the month as the Mets returned to winning ways to take the Wild Card and then on to the NL Pennant.
