  1. I keep thinking that I'd be able to whisk myself to New York at the last minute but I've come to realize that the combination of my parental responsibilities and that I'm still recovering from a back injury will mean that I won't be able to attend this shindig. Have fun and wear red pants.

Yes there is. His name is Carlos Delgado and he will return to form. Maybe for the Mets if rash decisions aren't made.
  3. Cutting Delgado would be the utmost in stupidity.
  4. Fire Omar.

Least hits in a Coors Field game? On the right track. This was only the second time that while playing in Colorado a team limited the Rockies to 3 hits or less and still lost. Previously accomplished by Atlanta in 1999. Source: Stat of the Day Who says this isn't an historic season?

  8. Randolph doesn't need to be fired. He just needs to get ejected from a game and return to the dugout in disguise.

  10. Need to bump up this all-purpose optimism thread as I may be the only one with any faith left in this team at this point. But I've always looked at the world through blue & orange-tinted glasses. Here's my optimistic thought for the day: The Mets don't have to face the Braves again until August 18th. Furthermore it will be another month after that until they once again set foot in the House of Horrors. I'm counting on the Mets having a lock on a playoff position by that point.

Things are not over. I am not going to turn the other way. This is my favorite team playing my favorite sport and I'm sure as hell going to support them. I am not a fair weather, bandwagon jumping "win or I'll stop supporting you" mentality fan that's the spirit. Wow, I didn't know there were Mets fans in Denver.
  12. Ska originated in the 1950's. The Two Tone ska revival (The Specials, English Beat, The Selecter, Madness, et al) started in the late 1970's.
  13. Not all 70's music is bad. Punk, New Wave, UK Ska, and the St. Louis Jesuits are in high rotation on my iPod. The rest of the review is great though.
  14. Well it appears your ass will be at the game.
  15. And poor folks are welcome to get minimum wage jobs with no benefits in the Stadium!
  16. If instant replay is done it shouldn't be done with the TV cameras but with special umpire cameras that focus on places like the outfield wall and foul lines throughout the game. I also think it would be asking for trouble to use IR for checking ball/strike calls or tagouts on the basepaths, so I hope it is limited to the places where flying balls can easily fall out of eyesight of even the most vigilant umpire.
  17. ="Benjamin Grimm"]He may be right, though. The season is young, (or youngish) and teams that look done in May often do get their acts together. It's entirely possible that the Mets can do that this year. Like the Florida Marlins, 19-29 and 13.5 GB in last place on this date 5 years ago. Or the Houston Astros, 15-28 and 12 GB in last place on this date 3 years ago. At 22-22 and a mere 3.5 GB and in third place, the Mets are really not in all that bad a place for 1/4 of the way through the season. Especially compared to these teams that won a World Series Championship and an NL Pennant respectively. The Mets aren't dead yet. Far from it.
  18. I would think Delgado would be the main trade bait at deadline time. Of course I also don't think he's washed and expect he'll be a contributer this season to the Mets or whomever else. The Mets don't have much to trade with since players are either not going to bring back much or someone the Mets don't want to part with (if they're sane). But Delgado could probably gain the Mets a player useful for the second half of this season and a prospect for the future. As for the not "playing with fire" I think that can be overstated. It's easy to blame failure on lack of effort, but if you let it get to you and get ticked off all the time it can exacerbate the problem. It's a sign of maturity to be able to learn from failure but also let go and move on to the next game. It sounds like Wright needs to learn that. Albeit it's a soundbite so I don't really know what's going on in his head.
  19. Funny that action is taken once a call goes against the Yankees.
  20. soupcan wrote: ="Benjamin Grimm"]Posada isn't squatting where Berra and Dickey squatted. But they didn't move the location of the toilets in the clubhouse so.... Beat me to the punchline.
  21. If we're being strict on ballpark building dates, Fenway was reconstructed in 1934 after a fire. There's even a cornerstone on Yawkey Way that has 1934 as the date. So Babe never played at that Fenway either, although technically he probably played on the same "ground" in each ballpark (but not the same exact specks of dust, and certainly not the same molecular structures!).

Read that sentence and tell me that it doesn't imply that Pedro plans to stick around the Dominican Republic for two more seasons.
  23. ] Just a topic to discuss Seems like the topic we're discussing all over this forum. I'll just go on record to state that Carlos Delgado is not washed up and I expect him to return to being a power threat this season (albeit probably not to the level of his best seasons).
  24. Ay-yi-yi. The Bravos have the bases loaded with no outs. Don't they want to just get this thing over with and go home?
