Peralta must be terrified of letting a hitter put a ball in play after watching last nights defensive ineptness. Now the same thing again tonight. Peralta victimized by the same shoddy defense.

Poor on base percentage due to poor plate discipline and/or pitch recognition has been a system wide problem of the Mets for a few years. Far too many of the Mets hitters swing at anything near the strike zone. The lack of plate discipline is what results in so many hitters (Vientos, Baty, Semien, Melendez, Benge and to a lesser extent Alvarez and Bichette) with high K rates and low walk rates. All of them walk less than once for every 3 strike outs. Most of them strike out 25% of their at bats. It is no way to build an offense.

It is time to start building for next year. Keep the parts you wish build around and trade the others that do not figure into the Mets future for prospects. Unfortunately, I don't know that there is much of value that other teams would offer much for beyond, possibly Peralta. I think that Bichette's contract, greatly limits his trade value. Baty and Vientos likely have minimal trade value. Senga would be tough to give away at this point. Last off season was the tear down, now it is time for a major rebuild.

At this point, the Mets might as well start planning for next year. Trade the players they don't see as part of the teams future moving forward. Unfortunately, there likely isn't much of value to trade, other than probably Peralta. Vientos and Baty won't bring much as there value has plummeted in the past year. Hopefully, the Mets play like a MLB team tonight, rather than a bad Little League team. Six errors, a passed ball, a wild pitch, and at least two plays that could (or should) have been made, but clanked off gloves (Benge) or fell untouched (Baty & Semien).

I said a few weeks ago that this team was essentially a .500 team. At this point, I doubt they can finish that well.

Absolutely pathetic! Embarrassing.

So, does anyone actually believe this is a playoff caliber team? The offense is bad, the starting pitching is a disaster and the defense really isn't better. Injuries have played a part, but it is apparent that the overall talent level is lacking.

Now Vientos puts a kick save on a ground ball that eats him up. It's like watching a Little League (a bad one at that) team.

Remember when improving the "run prevention" through improved defense was a primary objective last off season? Not looking very good, particularly tonight. 5 infield errors and a passed ball and they still have to play the 9th inning.

Alvarez boom! Followed by a Ewing bomb 2 batters later and the Mets have a lead!

This team couldn't beat Charlie Brown and his friends. They are hopeless.

At this point, I'm ready for the Mets to move Senga to Tokyo.

I've been thinking on it while mowing the lawn. Trying to remember as many long tenured starting pitchers of the 1960, 1970s. and early 1980's. When starters didn't go 5 innings and call it a day. I don't think there are any current pitchers that will make the list, but I may be wrong. I hope to take a shot at it later tonight.

Then he would be a perfect fit for this Mets lineup.

I the Mets are going to need a lot of innings from the bullpen, as on most Senga starts. Singe will likely look like a Cy Young contender against the Mets feeble line up. There are far to many players in the Mets line up that are hitting below .225 with OBP below .300. Team average of .229 with a team OBP .295 . For the season, the Mets have struck out 592 times in 2401 at bats (24.66%). It's very hard to build a consistent offense around such ineptness.

The difference in this game is a microcosm of the Mets season. The Reds with bases loaded draw a run scoring walk followed by a grand slam. The Mets managed to load the bases on three occasions and not surprisingly failed to score. The first time the Mets loaded the bases they produced an infield fly rule pop up to the shortstop followed by a strike out on a slider in the dirt to end the inning. The next inning the Mets again have bases loaded with one out and they foul out to first baseman and fly out to right center to again leave the bases loaded. But wait, there's more, they loaded the bases for a third time with one out, then proceed to strike out and hit a weak dribbler to second base to end yet another pathetically inept display of offensive futility. The Mets were 1-12 in RISP and even one hit, Bichette's clean single to left center did not score a run because Melendez paused half way to third base to watch the ball in the outfield. Absolutely horrible, clueless base running which cost him a base and prevented him from scoring. It is the continuous mental errors and bad fundamentals that make this team very difficult for me to watch.

Grand Slam by Suarez to make it 9-0. Good night all. I have better things to do with my time than watch this mess.

Reds pull off the double steal. Seemed to surprise Alvarez who attempted to throw out the trail runner from his knees. The aggressiveness pays off with a run on a chopper to Baty at third. Can't give up much with Burns on the mound for the Reds.
