Mets had four hits thru the first 8 (with the usual never more than one in any inning). But then four more in the 9th which, as it turns out, is a good way to generate runs. I wish I had known that prior to today. Bunching walks and hits is an effective way to score runs. Maybe they took note of what Cleveland did to them during their sweep of the Mets.
  2. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=156623 time=1716675623 user_id=68] Losing is a disease ... as contagious as syphilis.
  3. This team seems just good enough to be competitive in most games, yet still find a way to lose. I know there is a long way to go on the season, but I have serious doubts that this team can finish at or above .500 this season.
  4. Week night day (or early evening) games definitely makes it tough for working people to attend games, but the Mets poor performance will have an adverse effect on attendance, regardless of game time.
  5. It seems that every time there is an encouraging report regarding Senga's progress, he throws a bullpen session or live BP and the next day there is some little twinge or discomfort which further delays his rehab. The Senga injury saga is starting to feel a lot like the numerous DeGrom ones that we went through (and Texas still is) with DeGrom.
  6. This team certainly does not look very good. Collectively, they don't hit well. They walk far too many hitters. The pitchers and catchers seem incapable of stopping opposing base runners from running wild, so all those free passes might as well be advance to second free passes. Defensively, they have not been as good or consistent as I anticipated. I mostly have been watching the condensed games on MLB, but from what I have seen, this team does not look likely to win more than 80-82 games. I hope I am wrong, but they just don't pass the "eye test" for me.
  7. Well, that was depressing. At least I learned a new word, lachrymose, which ended up being fitting for this game.

  9. There are too many players (Lindor, McNeil, & Nimmo) significantly underperforming their expected norms at the plate. Then with Alvarez hurt, the Mets are forced to play Nido/Narvaez, who offer no real offensive threat. Alonso is a streaky power hitter that is not likely to hit much better than .250, but too many of his home runs (8 of 10) are solo shots. Baty I expect could develop into a decent hitter with some pop, but the team needs him to start figuring it out. Vientos and Baty may provide a decent platoon at third base, though I do worry about Vientos' defense. Bader, Martinez and Marte are providing about what I expected offensively. The pitches need to stop walking so many batters. They are proving the old adage "walks kill" on an almost nightly basis. Overall, the bullpen has been pretty solid, but greatly overworked due to the starters seldom pitching deep into games. Overall, not a promising start to the season. Getting Alvarez and Senga should help, but I doubt it will be enough to make the Mets much more than a .500 team. The underperforming veterans need to collectively start hitting or this will continue to be a very long and frustrating season.
  10. =Centerfield post_id=155477 time=1715821107 user_id=65] Unwatchable baseball.
  11. Heart of the line up due up in the bottom of the 9th. Time for a second consecutive walk off.
  12. I hope the Phillies line up is correct. I'm sure Manaea would love to face Harper batting right-handed and Castellanos batting left-handed.
  13. I think it was the uniforms. The Mets need to wear the classic pinstripes more often. Great win!
  14. On paper, this team looked pretty good. On the actual field, they look pretty bad.
  15. =kcmets post_id=155004 time=1715469623 user_id=53] What the heck is intercostal irritation?
  16. Frayed Knot wrote: =bmfc1 post_id=154291 time=1714878084 user_id=73] One run and it was helped by a dropped/unseen fly ball. Followed by a muff in RF and then a poor tag at the plate. We needed all three of those to score our lone run.
  17. Pete has become a black hole in the line up. He has 1 hit (a double) in his last 23 at bats. He just looks lost at the plate. A long way to go in the season, but he is not off to a good start in his free agent walk year.
  18. The Mets could use a few hitters (like Arraez) that can actually consistently get hits and reach base. Far too many Mets regulars (Nimmo, Lindor, Alonzo, Stewart, Narvaez, & Nido) are hitting under .220 Compared to them, McNeil is raking with his .239 average. Only Martinez, Baty, Bader, Taylor, and Marte are hitting better than .260 Having a player with a high OBP probably isn't too valuable to this Mets team, because no one seem capable of reliably driving him in.
  19. At least Christian Scott was as good (probably better) as we could have hoped for. He showed that being aggressive and throwing strikes can be very effective while also keeping your pitch count down so you can stay in the game longer. Hopefully, we get to see more of him this season.
  20. =bmfc1 post_id=154291 time=1714878084 user_id=73] One run and it was helped by a dropped/unseen fly ball. Meanwhile, Oakland scored 20, PHI scored 14, TX scored 15, and SD scored 13.
  21. Scott expanded the zone in that inning and the Marlins hitters were flailing away, helplessly at pitches out of the zone.

DBacks: Tonight's game has been delayed due to a bee colony forming on the protective netting behind home plate.[/i] I was going to guess the A/C wasn't working. Bees weren't even on my radar. Hate when that happens!
  23. Very good win for the team. The Bullpen continues to carry a heavy workload. Lindor rewarding the Mets faithful after his horrendous start. Tough series for runners trying to score on throws from the outfield. At least today, the good guys won.
  24. Well, that sucked. When the Mets couldn't summon any offense in support of Severino's splendid effort, the eventual outcome almost seemed inevitable.
  25. What a wasted effort. You fail to score runs and eventually the opposition is likely to make you pay. Case in point. Morel with his all or nothing (homer or K) approach to hitting comes through with a home run.
