  2. IIRC, Kinsler is also a jerk. Pass.

  4. Bonds, Guerrero, Hoffman, Chipper, Kent, Edgar, Manny, Sosa, Thome, Walker. I've come full circle on Bonds (and Sosa and Manny, for that matter). I don't think you can leave them out. (At the same time, I recognize my hypocrisy in keeping Clemens off my list just because I don't like him.)
  5. It's funny, because at 41 (!), I have no memories of him as a Met. My first Seaver memories are end-of-career things like his 1983 Topps Reds card and his 300th win with the White Sox against the Yankees. His being with the Red Sox in 1986 didn't even register with me at the time.

Does anyone doubt that if Scooter does miss opening day the print reporters would be slammed for having mislead us? FFS NOBODY ACTUALLY CALLS HIM SCOOTER I'm excited to get tickets for Conforto's big return from the DL when rosters expand in September.
  9. Unquestionably a HOFer. And an all-time Met.
  10. smg58 wrote: So the difference between the second and third appearance against a starter is 20 points of OPS. That's not that big of a deal. What I read from this is to field a better rotation, not to add more relievers. And the best situation was relievers' first batter faced. So just bring in a new reliever before every hitter. BOOM. Problem solved.

Bingo. Fourteen guys in the bullpen next year, no bench. DONE.
  12. Centerfield wrote: So Dave Roberts tried this during the postseason, where there are more offdays, and managed to exhaust the best and deepest bullpen in baseball. This might have cost them the championship. We want to try this for 162 with a shitty bullpen? No. We're going to have a *great* bullpen! That'll make all the difference! Except for when they all get hurt in May and have to have their arms amputated.
  13. Centerfield wrote: Closed? This is bullshit. I walked all the way over here in 25 degree weather. Guess I’ll look for a Starbucks or something. We told you not to come all the way here to Stockholm. Much warmer in New Yor--- oh, wait.
  14. Centerfield wrote: I don't understand. So because he's young, would he be cheap? He's got two years at the minimum salary before the collective bargaining agreement would let him earn any big bucks, yes. I read a thing about it recently. After 2019, he'd be eligible for whatever.
  15. Thing is, he was *that good* that he could have won games for both teams at once and we wouldn't have noticed. FWIW - as Mets, vs Halladay as a Phillie: Reyes: 8-25, 3K Wright: 4-24, 12K Davis: 6-25, 7K Beltran: 3-15, but one HR
  16. FWIW, the marketing potential of "Yo and Yu" is gold.
  17. Would he take a Ces deal that gives him an out after a year? 4/80, something like that? I'd do that. I wouldn't offer more than four years; if someone else does, let him go.
  18. DO IT, SANDY.
  19. Hietpas became a real estate lawyer in St. Louis. I looked him up a few years back because I was going to send him an autograph request.
  20. G-Fafif wrote: Halladay comes up next year, January 2019 announcement. It wouldn't surprise me if they waived it and let him come up a year early, but at the same time, he's only a year away.
  21. I've said before that if you told me in, say, 1987, that Dale Murphy would not only not make the Hall, but only break 20% of the vote ONCE in fifteen tries -- I'd have said you were crazy. I swing back and forth on Morris, which means I guess by rights I should leave him out, but I'm a Big Hall guy. Miller, Morris, Murphy, Parker, and Trammell for me.
  22. Edgar Martinez?
  23. Cap'n Intangibles is in there somewhere. Probably the 5/29/95 one + twenty years.
  24. Ceetar wrote: Mex17 wrote: Edgy MD wrote: I don't get that the conversation (here? elsewhere?) is coalescing around re-signing Jay Bruce. And I certainly don't see anybody else banging the drum for Dee Gordon. In this thread, the talk has been of the need to acquire two bats, one for the infield and one for the outfield, and one slugger and one contact hitter. I'd prefer good players though, and neither of those qualify. Bruce was .254/.324/.508 with 36 HR, and Walker was .265/.362/.439 with 14 HR. Neither one is a world-beater, but you could do a LOT worse, especially considering they're both in their early 30s. I would be okay with either or both returning. I have minimal interest in Gordon.
  25. Maybe he'll take a minor-league deal and an NRI next spring. GO FOR IT, SANDY.
