They'd sign him, and he'd wind up getting 400 AB next year and hitting 26 home runs over there. We'd sign him, and he'd hit .180 and wind up on the DL by May.

  3. The new Rule 5 guy probably displaces Bashlor or Drew Smith, I'd think.
  4. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Joe Kelly just went to LA for 3/25. Would you guys have rather had a less-proven-but-apparently-on-the-rise guy (and one a little less defense-dependent) for that price? Kelly is actually almost two years older than Familia, and not as good. No.
  5. Mets pick 11th, have four open spots on the 40. https://www.mlb.com/news/rule-5-draft-preview/c-301627212 Here's a list of all 30 teams' Top 30 Prospects who are eligible to be selected in the Rule 5 Draft: New York Mets 19. Luis Carpio, SS 21. David Thompson, 3B 25. Ali Sanchez, C 27. Patrick Mazeika, C
  6. I very much approve. Good move.

  8. Vic Sage wrote: I wouldn't mind Rosario (plus pitching prospect) for Realmuto, because a lot of our top prospects are SSs (Giminez, Mauricio, Newton) and Rosario hasn't proven anything yet in the majors, while Realmuto has established himself as the best catcher in baseball at this point. So we'd be filling one hole, with the depth to fill the other. Or we could just sign Machado! This, absolutely. I'd do Rosario and Lugo for Realmuto, and go back to Cabrera for a year or two at short. But Miami's going to want more than that.
  9. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: My proposed Three Team Trade: Mets: Keep Noah Syndergaard Yankees: Go fuck themselves. Marlins: Who fucking cares. tweet this now before i do Seriously. I'd make that deal in a heartbeat.
  10. Edgy MD wrote: If they get the deal they want, I don’t particularly care who catches in 2021. You can’t solve all problems at once. You can only hope to solve more than you create. But when one of the problems you create is "your fans hate you because you've traded one of their favorite players to the fucking Yankees," that's a hole that's pretty damn hard to fill.
  11. ARGH. [bigpurple:tch3d4h3]FOR FUCK'S SAKE, METS. NO.[/bigpurple:tch3d4h3]

  13. There are probably dozens of similar batters I'd put in before Baines -- Parker, Murphy, Edgar, Manny, Dick Allen, Keith, Larry Walker, Dwight Evans -- and dozens of guys I *wouldn't* put in before Baines but would still be ahead of him, like Rusty or Kenny Lofton or Freddie Lynn or George Foster.
  14. Splitting this out into its own discussion.
  15. That is terribly sad. Although honestly, I couldn't tell you what team(s) Valbuena played for. I looked him up and was stunned at how long he'd be in the bigs. Castillo I remember as a Pirates middle infielder, but thought he played for a lot *longer* than he did.
  16. Grandal costs a draft pick, doesn't he? There's no way the Mets sign him.
  17. Fuck. That. Shit. You want to shift? Go for it. I'm going to teach my guys to bunt so you cut it the fuck out. "Banning the shift" is fundamentally changing the game, and it's a load of crap.
  18. A Boy Named Seo wrote: [tweet]https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/1070366674740830208[/tweet] Yeah this is another potential trade I hate. Tell the Marlins to fuck off, and go buy Grandal. Hey Marlins - Seth Lugo or GTFO.
  19. Nimmo and Conforto should be virtually untouchable, I'd hope. (As should the four starters, more or less.)
  20. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I get the feeling that Brodie is thinking, "Wow! Trading is fun!" That sounds like me every time I start a new OOTP league, just blasting trades all over the place for the heck of it.

  22. You *could* bring back Asdrubal for a year or two as a stopgap/mentor for Gimenez... I could absolutely be talked into Rosario for Realmuto.

  24. You know... if there's a DH vote in the NL at some point in the next few years...
  25. Pitched for the Mets at some point this season, or so I'm told. I have no memory of that, even though he pitched in one of the two games I went to.
