  1. First, I have a day off to prepare.Second, don't call me Shirley.
  2. I think it should be a Met tradition to allow a random minor-league catcher to get one inning behind the plate in the last game of the year.Or Roberto Hernandez. Whoever.
  3. I'm just saying it shows something. I'm not saying that if you gave him 390 ABs right now he'd do the same thing, but he's "only" 30 years old, so he could.
  4. Heck, I'll guess too, since it was my idea. 1: Mookie 2: Harrelson 3: Hernandez 4: Strawberry 5: McReynolds 6: Hundley 7: Grote (I have no idea where he batted in the lineup, but he was around a long time) 8: Elster 9: Seaver
  5. No, they're relevant, because it shows that he can hit, given full-time duty. He hasn't really been given that chance. He went .259 .338 .569 .907 with four homers and 16 RBI in 58 AB in August; that's respectable near full-time work.
  6. Castro's been an offensive catcher his whole career; he's not bad defensively, but he's no Gold Glover either. He hit 27 homers in 390 AB with Calgary in 2001, with an OBP of .393 and an OPS of 1.021.
  7. Is there a way you can find out who's started the most games at each batting slot? That would be a fun quiz.
  8. Ooh... good question, coob. Here are my assumptions: 1) He probably played during the interleague era, where the DH would allow a position player to bat ninth. 2) He would have to have a little speed to bat leadoff, a little power for the middle of the order, but also be a bit player, because Mike Piazza and Jose Reyes aren't batting ninth. So my guesses are: Benny Agbayani Jay Payton
  9. If someone starts talking about "nationality's" I'm outta here.

  11. I'm pretty sure I have a 1985 scorecard, but not here. It's in storage in my grandmother's basement. If you don't have one by next time we go out there, I'll see what I can find.
  12. Considering he's been carrying an entire team on his right arm all season, that's certainly understandable.
  13. Tony LaRussa said he'd spot them three runs tonight if Willie promised to start Cairo at second, Diaz in right, and let Looper pitch the ninth.
  14. I think we beat Steve Carlton once also.
  15. I would send it back and tell them to go shove their handling fee up their asses.
  16. Dozier and Valera are the last two. And yes, the other half of the bonus question is unfair. That's why I said "Mets uniform," not Mets game. The list: 2005 11. Lastings Milledge, of, Mets 46. 17. Can we go back in time and sign Bruce Sutter? Another solid year or two from him and he's a lock for the Hall of Fame.
  18. This is bordering on a threadjack, but... Steve Trachsel might be the fourteenth most accomplished Met starter of all time?!?! Wow.
  19. You might be right, but the way Bert had pitched the last couple of years, there was no way Willie was going to risk putting him in the closer's spot in April. I'm glad he's pitched the way he did; I'm officially going back and retracting my Mel Rojas comment from the spring, because he's been a rock. But you can't displace a guy who's had a modicum of success over the past few years -- and for all our current hatred, the guy wasn't terrible until this year -- with a guy coming off two mediocre middle-relief seasons in which he gave up a lot of homers.
  20. Rotblatt wrote:We're pitching brilliantlyI'd argue this one too.Rotblatt wrote:we're working pitchers okayBut I agree with this one. Reyes, Matsui... it feels like there are a couple of guys starting to take a few pitches.
  21. The Great Looper Experiment didn't work. However, we know (hopefully) that he's gone next year. What do they do? I don't want to see Bert around in '06, and I don't know that I trust Heilman in that spot either. I nominate Heath Bell.
  22. I thought you loved Ray Durham that way. (Or was that JD?)
  23. LOOPER! Will you cut it the goddamn hell out?
  24. Looper? Again? With the Joneses coming up? You're kidding, right, Willie?
  25. Fran: "And we go to the bottom of the tenth... all tied... No! We're not tied!"
