  1. I have no idea what it is, and I don't think I want to know. There's a lot more to the story, apparently; when I saw Kase's post, I googled "mets lick," and that's the photo essay that came up. It was too bizarre not to post.
  2. ="KC"]The things that some Mets fans cling to and lick is just sad. Boy, is that ever true!
  3. Hey! Sid Fernandez turns 43 today. Happy Birthday to one of my favorite Mets.
  4. Paul Byrd is in the starting rotation on the All-Ugly team.
  5. Irish nailed it. Tim McCarver, in [u:97cca3271c]Baseball For Brain Surgeons[/u:97cca3271c], does a great job of illustrating the differences between the pitches. (It's really a great book; I really enjoyed it.)
  6. Hey, Matty... throw a freaking strike once in a while.
  7. One point for Timo, one for Ozzie Guillen, one point for Carl Everett and his imaginary dinosaurs, one point each for Jose Contreras and El Duque making Steinbrenner look bad, and one point for the history. Let's Go Sox!
  8. I've insisted this for the last couple of years: it's the Curse of Luis Sojo. In August 2000, the Yanks feared that they weren't good enough to three-peat; on the day of the ill-fated Jose Canseco pickup, they reacquired Sojo from Pittsburgh, where he had signed as a free agent after the 1999 season. Sojo, of course, hit the 133-hopper up the middle off Al Leiter that gave the Yanks Game 5 -- and the 2000 World Series. Since then... nothing. It's the Curse of Luis Sojo.
  9. Hey, someone has to say it... "The Yankees lose! Theeeeeee Yankees lose!"
  10. I was mad when our dog popped our Mets ThunderStix. I thought they were neat. He apparently did not agree. Ervin Santana is carving a very special niche in Angels history today. Hits A-Rod, gives up a rocket single to Giambi, then pop up, pop up, and the ol' K-WP-batter-runner-called-out-for-interference-at-first-base play.
  11. This is shaping up to be a helluva ballgame. 5-2 Good Guys, top of the fourth.
  12. Valadius wrote: I live in a co-ed dorm. Down the hall, there's a room of two girls. One is a Braves fan, and the other is an Astros fan. I just paid them a visit. They're hysterical. My roommate is making them go get dinner now to calm them down. (I miss college.) edited to remove... um... questionable material...
  13. And the 47(?)-year-old Franco almost gets thrown out for arguing called strike 3. He really should know better; I was really hoping the Braves would be out of players and we'd have to see John Smoltz play first base.
  14. Top of the 15th. Clemens warming in the bullpen as Wheeler walks Giles with one out and Chipper ambling towards the plate. I'm rooting Astros, but if Clemens comes in the game, it's "Let's go Braves!"
  15. Actually, I found this site because I wanted to see how my pigeon performed at the Iowa State Fair.
  16. If Cliff Floyd is the best option to play left field for the Mets next year, I'm okay with that. I just don't know if he is the best option.
  17. I'm not saying I "want to get rid of Cliff." I'm just saying we should temper our expectations in '06. That's all.
  18. I'm saying if someone needs a bat with an expiring contract and makes a good offer, I'd rather have the younger first baseman or a catching prospect or a good left-handed pitcher or whatever. That's all. I have no long-standing sentimental attachment to Cliff, dynamite season or not.
  19. You know what? I wouldn't deal Beltran, but I'd get rid of Floyd. If you all think he's going to play 150 games and hit 33 home runs in '06, I think y'all got another think coming. He's been injured his whole career; no way he does this two years in a row. I love what Cliff did for this team this year, but if someone else wants him, I'd deal him in a second.
  20. Five runs, nine hits off Randy Johnson and he is OUTTA there with two on and nobody out in the fourth... and the MFY faithful are boooooooooooooooooooooing him!!! God, I hate MFY fans.
  21. Three comments...1) Petit "has the ceiling to become a 4 or 5" starter?!?! I thought this kid was the savior of the organization? What the hell?2) I'd give Scobie a look as a long man next year. You never know.3) Why is the guy from American Pie qualified to give baseball prospect analysis? "Hey, Katie! You may have dumped me for Tom Cruise, but HA! I am working for Baseball America now!"
  22. Bleh. Not an award I care about, really; I didn't even bother to vote. Roids or not, Giambi did make a helluva comeback. And I don't see how you can argue with Griffey. I guess they're both fine by me.
  23. I really wanted to choose "he's dead to me," because he's been dead to me a couple of times already this season. But that said, Al Leiter was my favorite recent-era Met, but I was okay with him becoming a Yankee, so I suppose I'd get over it, as long as he didn't pull that A-Rod Giambi "speech" crap. So I voted "c." I couldn't vote "d", because I think he's going to provide a useful bat for someone next year, and it would kill me to see him go .250-25-75 as a C/DH for the MFYs.
  24. I have seen none of these films.
  25. Michael Kazich, Cubs fan, as quoted in USA Today Sports Weekly, as to whether he'd root for the White Sox in this series: ]"Not in a million (bleeping) years. Are you (bleeping) kidding? No true Cubs fan will ever cheer for the (bleeping) White Sox." Not even if they play the despised Cardinals? "I hate the (bleeping) Cardinals, but if they play the (bleeping) White Sox in the World Series, I'm cheering for the (bleeping) Cardinals," he says. "And that hurts to say that. But the (bleeping) White Sox are evil. Plain evil."
