  1. Danger! You people aren't giving Heilman nearly enough credit. Heilman 4 Padilla 2 Reyes 3 Ishii 0.5 Zambrano 0.5
  2. I don't want him either, but the story gets just a titch odder: Marlins cut ties with Burnett MIAMI -- A.J. Burnett is very close to becoming a former Florida Marlin. Marlins general manager Larry Beinfest said Burnett has been asked to leave the team and will not be offered a multiyear contract during the offseason. The decision came a day after the pitcher said the team plays scared because manager Jack McKeon and the coaching staff are too negative. Burnett popped off after losing his sixth decision in a row at Atlanta. Beinfest says Burnett has not been suspended and will be paid for the rest of the season. Burnett becomes a free agent after the World Series. He went 12-12 this season with two shutouts, four complete games and a 3.44 ERA.
  3. This season is... not... over... This is completely irrational, but my heart jumped when I woke up this morning, turned on the computer, and saw the headline "Mets Rally Past Philly." This could actually happen.
  4. Piazza 5 Wright 1 Jacobs 1 Benson 1 Padilla 0.5 Heilman 1 Beltran 0.5
  5. If the Mets win out... ...and the Astros, Fish, and Phils lose out... ...this season isn't over.
  6. Glavine 5 Wright 4 Hernandez 1
  7. And Bert gets the save; Tom Glavine moves to #29 on the All-Time Win list with 274, breaking his tie with Red Ruffing.
  8. Glavine has looked good tonight; only one walk (to Vidro in the 8th), six K's, four hits and two runs. Reyes and Willie apparently got EJECTED in the seventh for arguing balls and strikes, but I missed it (we were watching Coheed & Cambria, my new favorite band, on Fuse). I can't believe Willie actually argued! Perhaps he was thrown out by mistake.
  9. METS 5 3 0 EXPOS 0 0 1 MID 1st HR - Wright (22, off Hernandez -- Cairo, Beltran, Floyd scored). Sweet.
  10. Trachsel 2.5 Beltran 3 Floyd 1 Reyes 1 Diaz 0.5 Heilman 1 Padilla 1
  11. Does that say Jacobs 3b? Weird.
  12. I hate Jeff Kent with the passion of a thousand fires.
  13. Once again, we travel to our nation's capital, where the Washington Nationals will take on your New York Mets. A quick look at the matchups: Fri 9/23 NYM (Trachsel) @ WAS (Loaiza) 7:05 pm In Loaiza's last start against the Mets, he gave up seven hits and three runs in seven innings, getting the W at Shea on September 14. Sat 9/24 NYM (Glavine) @ WAS (Hernandez) 7:05 pm The Metsies smacked Livan around pretty good last time around at Shea, but the Natxpos pulled out the victory when Braden Looper blew a save (gasp!) and Roberto Hernandez lost it in the tenth. Sun 9/25 NYM (Benson) @ WAS (Patterson) 1:05 pm Patterson missed the last series with the flu, but he leads the Nats with 174 Ks, which is good for eleventh in the NL. He's also fifth in the NL with a 2.80 ERA in 2005. He lost his last time out, giving up five runs in seven innings to the Giants. Who's Hot? Cristian Guzman. No, that's not a typo; he's up to .211 on the season, going 18-for-53 (.340) since August 31. He even has a six-game hitting streak. Who Cares? Unfortunatly, not too many people. Both teams are out of the playoff hunt for '05. Who Are These Guys? September Callups for the Nats: IF Ryan Zimmerman is the Nats' first-round draft pick this year. He's 8-for-21 since coming up on September 1. IF Rick Short is 6-for-13 since his coming up from his near-.400 minor league season. OF Brandon Watson is 6-for-32 on the season. The speedy youngster had 38 SB in the minors in '05. OF Kenny Kelly is a former Red, former Met minor-leaguer, and former University of Miami football player. He's 4-for-11 on the season. RP Travis Hughes is 1-0, 3.60 in 10 innings in '05. RP Darrell Rasner is 0-1, 5.79 in 5.2 innings in '05. C Keith Osik is a Port Jefferson, NY native and former Pirate who is 0-for-2 on the season. His last major league home run came on 7/29/03 off Met Dan Wheeler. Ex-Mets: Baerga, Bennett, Stanton, Preston Wilson, Alex Escobar, and Hector Carrasco (kinda). Hopefully Very Near Future Ex-Mets: Looper, Ishii, Cairo, Mientkiewicz, Offerman.
  14. Willie said the same thing on M&MD yesterday at 5:00 also. He said we'll see Jacobs behind the plate "for a game or two."
  15. What the frigging hell is the point of bringing Braden Fucking Looper into the game? Why? Can we try some of these kids, see if they can get some fucking guys out? Whose mother did Heath Bell screw? Why doesn't he pitch any more? Did Aaron Heilman's arm fall off and I missed it? Can you tell me why Tim Hamulack can't get a chance to get some fucking guys out? GOD this team drives me fucking crazy.
  16. Mike Jacobs, Professional Hitter.
  17. John Denny? He played a long time, and was a Phil in the 80's.
  18. Glavine 6 Reyes 1 Diaz 1 Beltran 1 Floyd 1
  19. Joe Nathan, Stony Brook University's proudest athletic alumnus.
  20. Welcome aBorduck! (On second thought, maybe that doesn't work.)
  21. I guess if you throw Graves in there to close a game or two, and he's successful, some other team might see him as a trade option? Although I doubt any team -- Mets or otherwise -- will pay him $5 million (I think that's what his option is) for '06.
  22. Martinez 6 Jacobs 1 Beltran 1 Reyes 1 Castro 1
  23. I believe he scored MLB's one millionth run.
  24. Yeah, well, they lied.
