  1. And as is typical CPF style, this thread degenerated quickly.
  2. Rotblatt wrote: St. Louis is on the board with 1 run in the bottom of the second. No idea how they got it, but if I had to guess, I'd say that Pujols laid a bunt down the first base line. Delgado reached the ball and went to tag him out, but Pujols bitch-slapped the ball from Delgado's hand, then stomped on his toe. As Delgado crumpled to the ground, Pujols touched first, then ran straight back to home plate, hurdling Delgado's body, and bowled over the umpire, who, from the ground, called Pujols safe in a severe state of confusion. Yeah, that sounds about right.
  3. Anyone hear that gospel album? I'm curious. (Not curious enough to spend money on it, but curious.)

  7. Frank- Thanks again for taking the time to stop in and speak with us. I just picked up the book recently, and I'm working my way through it now. I love the fact that you have all these great recollections of your career; you're right when you say that baseball books don't all have to be about being outrageous. Your recollections about your negotiations with Branch Rickey are fascinating; we, the fans, blast players today for making millions of dollars, but considering where players came from, it's clear to say they've come a long way. I'm also fascinated how the fans passed the hat to give players tips for hitting home runs! (Like that would happen today!) Loving the book so far... I'm up through your 1953 season. Thanks again for writing it, and thanks for joining us.
  8. Might as well be Mr. Met. I'm tempted to demand that they retire his number. Plus, a lot of people named their pets Mookie. He loves that.
  9. Edgy DC wrote: c) If he does sign with Houston eventually, that's Piazza and Clemens in the same division. Oh, the seven-year-old drama! The Astros play in Houston, Texas, which would be Central. Perhaps you have it confused with Houston, Idaho.
  10. Keep those fingers crossed.

  12. Right... but what I'm saying is that you're not going to have to drop that injured everyday player. You're going to clear a roster spot by dropping a backup shortstop who never plays.
  13. ="metirish"]name these three? That would, of course, be Mike Scioscia, Billy Dee Williams, and Cheech Marin.
  14. Rotblatt wrote: It hardly seems fair how many mediocre middle infielders we have . . . That's so true. Someone get Joe McEwing on the phone!
  15. Wow! Yancy's TV gets David Letterman in the afternoons! He must be in the Pacific Ocean somewhere.
  16. Willie said yesterday that he's going to bat Wright eighth, because he thinks he needs more seasoning.(Just kidding.)
  17. Everybody run over to mlb.com and order your Dominican Republic #9 REYES jerseys!
  18. Frayed Knot wrote: I'm not sure they'd want to see Nady out there all that often so a longer Beltran outage would probably prompt a move of some kind. Most likely involving some sort of group hara-kiri.
  19. And the 2006 Topps set has hit the stores. Bought a couple of boxes at Walmart -- one for me right now, one for the baby when he gets here. First card on top of the first pack I opened... Pedro Martinez. edit: Side note... in an update of the old airbrushing days, apparently, players like Delgado, Wagner, LoDuca, and Johnny Damon are pictured -- in action -- Photoshopped in their new uniforms. Didn't get any of them, but some of them are up on eBay. Interesting.
  20. I agree. Chavez is a complete waste of a locker this spring.
  21. I know that in Elsterland, some truths are undebatable, but there does exist a scenario in which they don't both make the team. It's not likely, but not impossible. If they go with 12 pitchers, which teams often do out of ST, then one of the three spare OFs probably has to go (Chavez, Diaz, Nady). Chavez is probably the most likely one out, but you never know.
  22. S'okay by me.
  23. 9/15 here.
