  2. I really enjoy SNY. I know that's small consolation to those of you not in the viewing area, but Gary, Keith, and Ron (who is off tonight) have really done a nice job this year. I just love Gary; he's just a bald guy with a great voice, which gives me inspiration that I, too, can acquire my dream job someday.
  3. Gotta love when your pitcher gets an AB before he throws his first pitch.
  4. Yancy Street Gang wrote: I was there once. I think I was ten, which would have made it 1973. (But maybe I was a little bit older. I'm really not sure.) As I remember it it was two weeks, took place at Smithtown East, and was run by the school district's gym teachers. Thurman Munson was our one celebrity guest. Most of the kids were Mets fans. (Yankee fans were few and far between on Long Island back then.) It would have been so much cooler if they had been able to get a Met. I guess the Yankees were probably the team that had the homestand during the days the camp was running. That's the one. They had Tony Bernazard one year (!?!), Terry Leach and Vern Hoscheit another year. Biggio coached there, although he never coached me directly.
  5. Yancy- you went to the Smithtown baseball camp?!? Me too, in the mid-80s. Met Craig Biggio when he was a coach there (pre-major league days).
  6. I love watching this team. Whatta K by Pelfrey to get out of the jam.
  7. When you're in first place, those intradivisional games between the other teams suck. I want all those teams to lose.
  8. Actually, what a story that would be if Sanchez comes back as a sidewinding bullpen ace!
  9. I can definitely throw more strikes and about fifteen MPH faster submarine-style. Wish my old coaches would have let me do it.
  10. Not a fan of the left-right-down thing. Can you put them all in one column, or would that be too annoying to scroll?
  11. The Colorado Rockies have acquired left-hander Jeremy Affeldt and right-hander Denny Bautista from the Kansas City Royals for infielder Ryan Shealy and right-hander Scott Dohmann.
  12. I really thought Nady would contribute. He was so highly touted a few years back, and I figured he was just waiting for the right opportunity. I guess he'll get the chance to play in Pittsburgh, but I thought he might have been a nice fit here.
  13. Sportsline is reporting Greg Maddux to LA for Cesar Izturis.
  14. Matt Stairs, one of my all-time favorites, to the Rangers for Joselo Diaz, who I think was a Met minor-leaguer once.
  15. Credit Cashman; he made his team a lot better this year and gave up NOTHING to do it.
  16. Dislike. We weren't getting Abreu; the Phils weren't sending him somewhere they'll see him nineteen games a year.
  17. Because of Perez. He's still 25, and left-handed, so there's a premium there. I know he's not Sandy Koufax, but he does still qualify as a prospect, sorta.
  18. Two words: Pat Burrell. In related news: ]Clippers clobber Perez, Indians July 29, 2006 Wil Nieves hit a two-run double and scored in a nine-run first inning that carried visiting Columbus past Indianapolis, 10-6, on Saturday. The 28-year-old catcher delivered a one-out double to center field, then scored with Terrence Long on errors by center fielder Chris Duffy and shortstop J.J. Furmaniak. Nieves hammered a solo homer in the second for Columbus (47-59). Long's RBI single sparked the scoring as the Clippers used seven consecutive hits to build a 9-0 lead. Danny Garcia and Kevin Thompson sandwiched RBI doubles around J.T. Stotts' run-scoring single. Andy Cannizaro's RBI single capped the inning, during which Columbus sent 13 men to the plate. Every member of the Clippers lineup collected at least one hit in the opener of a two-game set. Colter Bean (7-2) allowed a hit and a walk while registering a strikeout in 1 2/3 innings for the win. Jose Veras got the last two outs to notch his 16th save. Yurendell de Caster went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer, falling a double shy of the cycle for Indianapolis. Rajai Davis also was 3-for-5 with an RBI to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. Chris Richard and Adam Boeve picked up an RBI apiece for the Indians (58-47). Major League veteran Oliver Perez (1-3) recorded just one out and was torched for eight runs on five hits. He walked three of the game's first four batters. ]Columbus Top 1st Kevin Thompson walks. Danny Garcia doubles (19) on a fly ball to left fielder Rajai Davis. Bronson Sardinha scores. JT Stotts singles on a ground ball to center fielder Chris Duffy. Danny Garcia scores. Pitcher Change: Josh Sharpless replaces Oliver Perez. YIKES.
  19. Who is this Matsui character? I vaguely remember the Mets having some guy who homered to lead off three consecutive seasons, but other than that, never heard of him.
  20. Has anyone heard from that SteveRogers guy? What ever happened to him?
  21. Always nice to get into the bullpen in the fourth inning of the first game of the series against a key divisional rival.
  22. Cliff just kinda waved and missed at that fly ball... woulda been a neat catch, but he just wound up looking doofy.
  23. Johnny Dickshot wrote: The CPF farted in the general direction of my Game Thread Mojo suggestion. I thought it added some pizazz and excitement, mixed stuff up and probably woulda been directly responsible for several 8 or 9 game winning streaks so far. Hey, I liked the idea, JD, but I never start IGTs, so I guess my vote didn't count.
  24. KC wrote: I was thinking the other day that I had a good win pct on igt's and wondered who had the best. KC/SJR sim score up slightly. Noooooooooooooooooooooooo....
