  2. How about when the Padres are in town, we trick them into leaving Piazza behind? We'll sneak LoDuca into a PADRES 33 jersey and stick him in the visiting clubhouse, and stick the Mr. Met head on Piazza and sneak him out the back door.
  3. Can the Marlins sneak D-Train through waivers and send him north? They can have Heilman.
  4. I always thought "Billy Wagner's Llamas" would be a good name for either a band or a rotisserie team.
  5. I hate the Marlins. I feel like we go 4-15 against them every season.
  6. Might have been a good idea if Sanchez hadn't gotten in that cab. A double down the line scores EVERYONE as LoDuca misses the tag! What the hell happened?!??! Ah, he dropped the ball. Sunuvabitch.
  7. And he walks Jacobs to load 'em up for the ever-dangerous Miguel Cabrera, with the tying run on third base in the form of the speedy Miguel Olivo.
  8. Heilman allows Olivo to get a hit (on a first-pitch changeup), then a sac and a walk puts runners on 1st & 2nd with one out. Then K's Uggla. Sweet. Here comes Jacobs.
  9. Trachsel 2 Bradford 1 Heilman 1 Wagner 2 Reyes 1 LoDuca 1 Beltran 1 Delgado 0.5 Chavez 0.5
  10. Keith and Gary have been obsessed with Miguel Olivo. We've learned two things, ad nauseam, about the Marlins' catcher: (1) He LOVES first-pitch fastballs, and therefore, those advance scouts have prepared the Mets well, because they're not throwing him any. (2) He "runs well for a catcher." What the hell does that mean? That's one of those baseball catchphrases that's just stupid. Either you run well, or you do not. Jose Reyes runs well; for a catcher, for a shortstop, for a leopard. I do not run well; not for a catcher, not for a third baseman, not for a 30-year-old assistant director of undergraduate admissions. There is really not much of an in-between, but Gary & Keith have been obsessing over it with Olivo for three nights.
  11. I've never flown solo on an IGT before... this is both exciting and nerve-wracking all at the same time.
  12. Hey! The Mets grounded into another DP! That's fourteen GIDPs today, if you're scoring at home. Middle of the 8th, still 1-1.
  13. Another beauty of a grab by David Wright, backhanded and on the short hop up the line to end the bottom of the seventh. Let's pick up some runs, boys.
  14. We saw a little bit inside Dontrelle's psyche there; he got riled by a strike-three-that-wasn't to Julio Franco, then after the hit, ranted and raved on the mound until his teammates subdued him. He got out of the inning on a flyout to LoDuca, but continued barking at the umpire after the inning ended. Still would love to see him in the blue-and-orange.
  15. And he does with an RBI groundout. HUGE HUGE HUGE hustle play by Franco. Gotta love what he's done this year too.
  16. Jacobs homers in the bottom of the sixth to give the Marlins the lead, then the flu-ridden Julio Franco singles to right pinch-hitting for Pedro in the top of the 7th... but the ball skips by Willingham in right, Franco chugging all the way to third base before passing out and dying. Reyes up with a chance to tie it up.
  17. Just messin' with you. S'all good. Tough DP from Woodward in a spot where a hit would have been key. I'm disappointed with Woody this year; I feel like he's been a real hole in the roster, wherever he's played.
  18. (I will not make fun of someone who's excited about going to Iona... I will not make fun of someone who's excited about going to Iona...) Nice catch by Beltran. What a season this guy's having.
  19. Two years ago today, we lost a legend. The only time I've ever cried over a death of a non-family member... because Murph was part of our family. We'll always remember you, Murph.
  20. Something tells me Reyes will do more for this team than Rey Ordonez ever did, and I believe Rey's deal was for more money.
  21. My wife was stunned the other night when they mentioned that Pelfrey and Olson were born two days apart in 1984. "1984?! God, we're old."
  22. So you had a pitcher pinch-hitting for the pitcher, who got hit with a pitch, so he was replaced by a pitcher serving as a pinch-runner, who got replaced by another pitcher serving as a pinch-runner for the pinch-runner for the pitcher who was pinch-hitting but got hit by the pitch. Cool.
  23. Or they should activate Zambrano just so we can bring back the nickname Vagina Boy.
  24. ="Edgy DC"]Another thing about Big Papi is that there was internal disagreement among the Sox brass about him --- conventional wisdom being that Fenway contains lefthanded power hitters. Turns out that he not only has the pulling power to overcome the deep right field, but what should be his routine flies to the opposite field carry enough to clear the green monster. Now, in retrospect, it's hard to beleive anybody doubted that Fenway would keep him from flourishing, because he's such a carbon copy of young Mo vaughn, but before 1995, it was also believed that Fenway was keeping Mo from clearing 30 homers. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this didn't help either.
  25. Funny, because someone else definitely told me to "beat on the brat." Don't remember who...
