  1. Or did he steal stuff from a certain former Mets farmhand?
  2. There's at least one of our Stony Brook Seawolves in that league this summer; Andres Perez will represent the Torrington Twisters in the All-Star Game tomorrow.
  3. My bad. I skipped over the word "by" and read it as: Police caught Hobdy setting up a hidden camera in one of the rooms. Oooops.
  4. ="ESPN"]Dodgers minor-leaguer arrested, charged with burglary VERO BEACH, Fla. -- A minor-league pitcher in the Los Angeles Dodgers' system was arrested after being accused of breaking into several suites at Dodgertown and stealing credit cards and cash from his teammates. Christopher Hobdy, a 19-year-old pitcher for the Gulf Coast Dodgers in the rookie Gulf Coast League, was arrested Wednesday night and charged with seven counts of burglary and six counts of petit theft. He was also charged with trespassing and barred from returning to Dodgertown, the Vero Beach Press Journal reported for Friday's editions. Besides living quarters for the players, Dodgertown also includes practice facilities and the stadium where the team plays. Hobdy, from Lubbock, Texas, is being held on $146,000 bond at the Indian River County Jail. Several players reported cash and credit cards missing from their Dodgertown rooms last month, according to the arrest report. Vero Beach Police began to investigate the incidents, and more players reported thefts in the following weeks. Police caught Hobdy by setting up a hidden camera in one of the rooms. When confronted with the video, Hobdy admitted to stealing the cash and credit cards from other rooms, the arrest report said. "The club is aware of the situation," Dodgers spokesman Josh Rawitch said. He declined to comment further on the case. Setting up a hidden camera. Classy.
  5. Hmm, let me think about it... no.
  6. It comes from the Greek "sophis," meaning "person who is fakes an ID in order to get into college bars," and "amoros," which means "Cuban outfielder." The outfielder part of the meaning has been lost to history.
  7. Italian Hot Dog Chorizo Brat I have to give the Polish and Irish incompletes, as I've had neither.
  8. Dude, that sounds like so much fun, I would ferry across to Bridgeport just to take the boat back across.
  9. Credit both of you with good selections; I loved [u:336de5c217]The Inferno[/u:336de5c217], and I'm about to start [u:336de5c217]Manhunt[/u:336de5c217], which my wife LOVED.
  10. Yancy Street Gang wrote: How come you didn't put the words "All-Purpose" in front of the thread title, by the way? That seems to be in vogue lately. I always thought the "Apropos Of Nothing" thread should just be called the All-Purpose All-Purpose Thread. I think the no-hitter jinx is always such a big whoop, but I always thought you had to be a fan of the team in order to jinx it. Therefore, announcers (in theory) couldn't do it, and, say, a fan posting "Joe Cubspitcher is throwing a no-hitter" forty-eight million times wouldn't do it either. But maybe that's just me.

  12. Mets win! Mets win!
  13. Here comes Slammo.
  14. ="Edgy DC"]Aaron Heilman, Juan Pierre Liquid feces on my chair Ah, the forgotten bonus verse to Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start The Fire." Can someone please figure out what the heck Steve is talking about, and why there's an enormous picture of Barry Bonds' skinny younger twin brother in the IGT? No, on second thought, I'd rather not know.
  15. I think you have to call the infield fly rule, even if it's sunny.
  16. Sacrifice bunts are for losers.
  17. Time for bonus baseball. Definitely should have played hookey and gone to the game today.
  18. Elster88 wrote: ="Yancy Street Gang"]Maine strikes out the side in the 7th! 17 scoreless innings in a row! He's due up fifth in the upcoming inning. Let's see what happens. What's Orel's record again? Does Orel even still hold it? 59 innings, and yes.
  19. Willets Point wrote: ="Edgy DC"]="Johnny Dickshot"]="Elster88"]We don't really need the play by play. That's being recorded in about 8,000 places probably. Not that it really hurts either. Just need some more color commentary for posterity and fun. I completely agree. Or at least, color and discussion along with PbP. Not to be a thread dick, but IGTs are the last thing I'll ever re-read on this forum. Just a mass of photoslop and play by play anymore. You're right, of course, but where did it all go wrong? OK, you two must be on an elite level far above the rest of us. Take a look at an IGT from exactly one year ago and tell me what makes it more glorious than today's. Hey! I remember that IGT with those stupid nicknames!
  20. ="Edgy DC"]] (Vanis takee! Vanis takee!) Huh? See, that's why you read IGTs.
  21. Centerfield wrote: What's worse is that the TV head guy has to lug around that clunky outdated TV while the rest of the world switches to flat panel. That's because SNY is old skool.
  22. I like how Steve goes crazy every couple of days. Always good for a laugh. edit: If the Mets don't have a hit by the fifth inning, he's going to award the NL East title to the Marlins.
  23. Honestly? Seeing Atlanta in second place bothers me. I know it's a huge lead, and everything's fine, but I still don't like it.
