  1. I hate to break it to John Thomson, but he sucks. Have fun getting lit up by the Yankees five times this year, dickhead.
  2. Am I the only person who just doesn't give a crap about the streak? Big whooping deal. That's only one piece of his legacy.
  3. I feared the Marlins last year, and I will continue to fear them. A good, young. hungry team who we've historically gone something like 6-87 against.
  4. Johnny Dickshot wrote: Jim Rice 346 63.5% BOOOOOOOO.
  5. Make this the year, folks.
  6. According to ESPN Radio this morning, at least one guy left his ballot completely blank this year, so we know it won't be unanimous.
  7. Actually, the more I look at that photo, the more I think it's not even Benny Ayala. Hmmm. edit: Maybe it is. Baseball Almanac lists him as #15.
  8. Got your back, Jack. Other Ayala sigs: I'm not saying that one above is a forgery, but I don't know if it fits. Maybe with the index card one. God, I love that 1983 Topps set.
  9. The most interesting thing here is that Benny is shown sans his trademark moustache. That, and the fact that he only played in one game (3 AB) for the Cardinals, but yet this photo is available on eBay. And his autograph looks nothing like any of his other autographs on eBay. I defy anyone to find an interesting Manny Aybar photo so we can move on to the Bs.
  10. He's a fatheaded Steve Trachsel. I bet if you stretch Trax's head... http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_123431.jpg
  11. And he's a virtual doppelganger for Steve Trachsel, which is scary.
  12. Awesome. On the "individual games" drop-down, there should be a "0" option, at least for categories like runs allowed and hits allowed. (For example, all games with seven innings, zero hits.)
  13. Who gives a rat's ass what Roger Clemens does? I hope he gets hit by a bus. Or signs with the Mets and wins 23 games this year.
  14. No, ideally, we stop responding to cleon's paranoia. And the pitchers we have prosper and Milledge blossoms as a Met.
  15. autonomous /ɔˈtɒnəməs/ Spelled Pronunciation[aw-ton-uh-muhs] adjective 1. Government. a. self-governing; independent; subject to its own laws only. b. pertaining to an autonomy. 2. having autonomy; not subject to control from outside; independent: a subsidiary that functioned as an autonomous unit. 3. Biology. a. existing and functioning as an independent organism. b. spontaneous. [Origin: 17901800; < Gk autnomos with laws of one's own, independent, equiv. to auto- auto-1 + nm(os) law, custom + -os adj. suffix]
  16. Good. I look forward to kicking Don Rowe's ghost's ass.
  17. Plus I want a feature on each living player's page where I can e-mail them directly and invite them over for dinner and a rousing game of Boggle.
  18. GREAT new feature! Two additional requests: a dropdown with "as a Met"/"against the Mets", and the addition of "all postseason" as an option in the regular season/postseason dropdown. Stunning work, Yance.
  19. Pete Harnisch dealt with depression too. edit: Sorry, Hahn. Didn't see that there was a second page to the thread.
  20. Liked it back in the day, but at this point, I'd rather shoot my eye out. A generous 2 lamps from me.
  21. How about Lorna Doone?

  23. New York snob.
  24. You're all correct, I guess, at least according to the Baseball Cube. ]Drafted - Selected by Seattle Mariners in 5th Round (109th overall) of 1982 amateur entry draft (Jan-Reg) ... Selected by Montreal Expos in 4th Round (64th overall) of 1983 amateur entry draft (Jan-Sec) First player of any consequence drafted after Wilpon in 82: Scott Bailes, a major league pitcher from 86-98. Also drafted after Wilpon in 82: Robby Thompson, the Giants 2B who finished second in the ROY voting in '86 (9th round). In the 83 draft, there were a handful of interesting players taken, including first-rounders Jim "The Rookie" Morris, Brad Arnsberg, Ken Patterson, outfielder Dave Martinez, and future Mets Rodney McCray and Jeff McKnight.
