Three of their top ten prospects are outfielders, and one of their major league OF spots is locked up for the forseeable future. I'd say that's reasonably deep.
But the A's are moving to Santa Clara, which means they're getting a new ballpark, which means more money and more opportunities for promotion. So it's not so far-fetched.
I have one of these also - as per the original thread - and I'd be willing to rip a copy and stick one in the mail. I'd also be willing to rip to mp3s if someone would be willing to host them. (Although considering this CD isn't for sale anywhere, I don't know that it'd be too illegal. We might want to only send the link around by e-mail or PM.)
Can we sign Gerald again, then trade him and Davie for Dontrelle? I'd do that. The Alomars: Gotta be a great feeling to have not one, but two kids in the major leagues... and both be all-stars. Jesus Alou, anyone?
http://www.leaptoad.com/mets/roster.php Tommie Agee is next. Sure, I could post a photo of the WS catch, but why not this one instead: Topps went through a weird period in the early 70s where they put the subject off their cards off-center. Is this a Tommie Agee card? Or a whoever-that-shortstop-is card? Or That Umpire's Butt card? We'll never know. Rick Aguilera would be next.
And I can sum it all up in just one word: courage, dedication, daring, pride, pluck, spirit, grit, mettle, and G-U-T-S, guts. Why, Brian Bannister's got more guts in his little finger than most of us have in our large intestine, including the colon!
I agree with Yancy. The money's there; what's $25 million? Don't you think the Red Sox would rather have Johnny Damon at his contract than J.D. Drew at his contract? I think Zito's probably going to be worth it... spend the money.
Yeah, I meant that in a nice way. My first thought was NONONONONONONONO, but then I really thought about it, and your points make a lot of sense. It could be an interesting fit.

As I posted in his other thread, we first saw Bannister in Norwich, CT two summers ago when he was with the B-Mets. Considering he was something of a top prospect, we were excited to see him; but he couldn't find the plate, walking a bunch of guys (and IIRC, throwing a couple of WPs) in a short outing. I'll repost the pre-game bullpen photo:
Good times last night on campus as we honored Joe Nathan, Class of 1997 and the newest member of the SBU Hall of Fame. Nathan's #22 becomes the first Stony Brook uni number to be retired. Got two cards autographed, which will go on my office wall with autos from the only two other SBU alums who made it to the baseball card world, Craig Ansman and Chris Flinn. The Seawolves lost to Hofstra, 73-57. I think we'll be okay once our conference games start, but we're getting beat by some good teams right now. (Mod note: Don't know if this deserves its own thread, but perhaps we can somehow morph it into an AP College Basketball thread down the line.)

He started the 04 season on the destined-for-4th-place Mets only to be traded to the last place Pirates. The Pirates and Ty were in last in 05 and then he spent last year with the last place Devil Rays. I think he would make a good fit with the Nationals or Royals for next year. Or the Yankees. I'd be fine with that.
Yeah, it be Ambiorices. (Like "matrices.") I like the deal too. I soured on Bannister when we saw him walk about fourteen Norwich Navigators in three innings two summers ago. (That's him below, warming up before the game.) No great loss, and if you can get a young power arm, you go get him. Nice move.
