The "42" thing was messing with my head early. We watched the entire pregame festivities upstairs, then put MiniWolf to bed. I then came downstairs and turned the game on. It was already 2-0 at that point, and Beltran was up in the bottom of the first. My immediate thought was "who the hell is #42 on the Mets?" I'm a moron.
That commercial would have been way funnier if Cap'n Intangibles had either dropped the keys, threw them over the dad's head, or both. Although it certainly was realistic that he made a major production over catching the keys and tossing them to the guy.
I'd like to hear more about Mike Scott, that lying, cheating bastard, and how he's going to publicly apologize for giving me apoplexy in the late innings of a game in October 1986.
That's an impressive lineup, 1-7. I didn't know they were doing the LaRussa thing. Odd. The logic says that you get that AL-style "second leadoff hitter" the second time around. The reality says it just means they're pitching around your #7 guy instead of your #8 guy. I don't get it either... because if the guy's good enough to be a second leadoff hitter, then bat him #1 or #2, so you don't lose an AB every game. If Kendall's still that good -- and he's not -- then don't you want him to get 4-5 ABs a night instead of 3-4? Odd.

Nick's moving along the organizational ladder, filling a middle relief role in Binghamton. Two one-inning stints so far... one good (one scoreless inning), one bad (one four-run inning), both against Trenton. I just sent an interview request to their PR folks; we'll see what happens.
I think black has (had?) the "cool" factor for a while, which is why so many teams went that way, as opposed to going back to baby blues, for example. If flannel uniforms had a cool factor that would sell, they'd wear 'em. Teams have tried stupid things before (camouflage, the Mercury Mets), and sometimes they catch on, sometimes they don't. Black worked, so they stuck with it. If you're a kid, a black jersey might just be cooler than pinstripes, especially if you associate pinstripes with the team across the river.

Splitted. I don't HATE the black. I have a black hat, mostly on days when I either can't find my blue one or when my two-year-old is wearing his black hat and demands that we wear the same one. (All black, not the black/blue brim combo.) I understand the vitriol against the black, though... I posted in the IGT about it the other day. I don't see it going away, though.

We offered you a minor league deal, with access to the NBF only. I didn't see any other fora knocking on your door.
