  1. Wait, the Mets are on ESPN again tomorrow? It's not Morgan and Miller again, is it?
  2. Joe Morgan: "That's why he had such a high ERA last year." Jon Miller: "He gave up a lot of runs." My ears are bleeding.
  3. Adam Eaton just remembered that he sucks. Excellent; the Phillies' bullpen. Is Tom Gordon still pitching? I always enjoy watching him give up runs.
  4. Fuck. Exploding fastball, my ass.
  5. Perez 4 Heilman 4 Wagner 1 Reyes 1
  6. And there's this douchebag coach in Illinois, whose kids scored 31 runs in the first inning -- including a kid who hit for the cycle in the inning -- in a 53-0 rout. Dickhead. http://gcdailyworld.com/story/1394994.html
  7. Jose Reyes, gamer. Wonder if he comes back out to the field.
  8. Spent a nice afternoon at New Britain stadium, home of the New Britain Rock Cats, as they hosted the Trenton Thunder. Lots of prospects you've maybe never heard of in the game on both sides, including guys like Jose Tabata and Austin Jackson for the mini-Yanks, and Trevor Plouffe for the mini-Twins. A few interesting game notes: * Spoke with Floyd Rayford before the game. Floyd was a large C-3B for the O's and Cardinals back in the early 80's; I was a fan because I always thought he looked silly on his baseball cards: I grabbed this card out of my 1984 Topps set before I left the house this morning and had it signed by him. (This isn't mine, it's an eBay auction, but mine looks eerily similar.) Once Floyd left, some of the batboys came over and asked to see the card; I don't think they'd ever seen a card so old, and they were laughing at how young he looked. * The other guy I'd hoped to meet was Erik Lis, a slugging infield prospect with whom I share a birthday. He walked by while I was talking with Floyd, but I didn't want to interrupt our conversation. * Sat in the scouts' area behind home plate for a while, in front of Chase Wright and Other Guy Who Was Sitting With Chase Wright (he pitches tomorrow for the Thunder, I believe, and was charting pitches), as well as former Twins GM Terry Ryan, with whom I also had a brief conversation about a lefthanded reliever who couldn't seem to throw anything above knee level; the Cats' catcher was sliding all over the place trying to block the ball. Ryan was there watching Matt Moses, who's converting from the infield to the outfield this year. * All the batboys for the Rock Cats wear #5. No idea why, but that's the first time I've ever seen anything other than BB, 00, the year, or nothing on the back of their shirts, I think. * Speaking of uniform numbers, left-handed reliever Ben Julianel wears #4. I've never seen a pitcher with a number so low.
  9. Another missed opportunity for the Mets this year... one more Banner Day before the stadium closes. It's like the marketing folks are living underground.

That looked really odd on the "flythrough" they showed. The guy has so many iconic images... you couldn't commission one good sculpture?
  11. ="Nymr83"]="AG/DC"]If it's the economy, maybe the fans should save their money, stay home, and cling to their guns and religion and fear those unlike them. i need a gun to cling to. cuddle with even. I nominate either one of these:
  12. Dick Allen should be a Hall of Famer. Dave Orr played parts of eight seasons between 1883-1890, so I think we can take him off the list.
  13. What soup said. clapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclap Keith is horribly out of touch. Blame it on the bloggers, Keith. Moron.
  14. Who cares if they "needed" it or not? If someone's willing to give me $400 million to rename my house, then I'm taking it. It's fucking stupid not to.
  15. I hate the clapping after the other team successfully executes the sac bunt too. Yes, you got an out, but there's a guy in scoring position now.
  16. I completely agree, but how do you stop it? You wonder if it'll get so bad that free agents don't want to come here any more.
  17. Hey, I'll be at a game in New Britain tomorrow. I'll stay away from the fence. We were at a Ducks game a few years back when a guy leaned out of his suite to reach for a shirt from the T-shirt gun, fell out, and cracked his head open on the railing about 25 feet away from us. It's an image that will be with me forever... my wife still has to hide her eyes when they bring out the T-shirt gun; she can't watch it.
  18. I was going to put it here, but I wasn't sure if it was baseball. I guess it is.
  19. Antonio Nararainsami, 36, at Shea on Tuesday.
  20. Pelfrey 5 Wright 4 Reyes 1
  21. Welcome back, Duaner.
  22. I like this Wright kid. Gonna be a good player.
