I agree with everyone on distinguishing pitches, but I will say this; knuckleballs are fucking AWESOME to watch from right behind the plate. Same on the 2- and 4-seamers. Tim McCarver's "Baseball For Brain Surgeons" is a really good book that explains a lot of that stuff, including pitches. I'm going to go back and re-read it.

You really can't blame Sterling for almost getting excited there. Until about a split-second before he catches it, it looks like a game-winning double into the corner. You know he was going for "And it's a... BASE HIT! ROUNDING third is Jeter..." Ugh. Gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about it.
Dude, Brad Emaus couldn't even buy a Brad Emaus Mets jersey. It'd be interesting to hear the discussion in late May when a nine-year-old is sitting in his seat punching his ballot, asking his parents who the hell Brad Emaus is. (And then, of course, getting slapped around for saying "hell.")
Let's keep an eye on pitcher Nick Tropeano of YOUR Stony Brook Seawolves, who's 8-1, 1.06 in nine starts. In 59 2/3 innings, he's allowed 35 hits (31 singles, four doubles), walked twelve and struck out 78.

Not only can he not hit major league pitching, he actually got worse in AAA the last few seasons. Plus we have no place to put him.
The only solid logic here is that last spring, I sent an autograph request to RA Dickey c/o the Bisons a week or so after he threw that near-perfecto... he was so inspired by my request that he got called up a few days later and nearly won the Cy Young Award last season. Guess who I sent an autograph request to last week, c/o the Bisons? You betcha. Justin Turner. Karma.
You can get tickets for this week for $3 on StubHub. Three dollars. I wish I lived closer and/or didn't have a family, because I'd go to a lot more games.
