  1. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: My special metric, Eyewitness Defense, rates the Mets' catchers as the very worst in the league. Okay, Mike Francesa. Because you've seen EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVERY other catcher in the league play this year. /hangs up
  2. Sugarpants, eh? His name is David. So... David, like David Sunflower Seeds, which are a great alternative to sugary snacks, and Wright, like the Wright brothers, who flew airplanes, on which you should wear pants. Hence, "sugarpants."
  3. I don't like the "threat" angle the Mets are (inadvertently?) playing right now. "Well, you better come out to lots of games, or we won't have enough money to raise the payroll, which means... well, you know." Fuck you, Mets. Don't be a dick. You dealt Seaver. You let Straw go. You let Reyes go. Don't fuck this up.
  4. It'd be a fun old-timey prank to kidnap Carlos on Sunday night after the game and stick Jason Bay on the Cardinals' plane instead.
  5. Yes and yes to both nymr's and Grimm's points.
  6. Oh. Was hoping it was "traded to Cardinals, along with Jason Bay, for Carlos Beltran."
  7. Think: This off-season. Want: Immediately, for ten years and $400 million.
  8. LOL. No, we can take a joke.
  9. We haven't been there yet this year.
  10. Ten years, $350 million. DO IT, SANDY.
  11. I saw a story (Jayson Stark?) recently that said basically that there was no reason in the world for Wright to sign, so the Mets can try all they want, but he ain't signing. Since then, I've put the Wright contract situation out of my mind. But dammit, Sandy, you gotta get this fuckin' guy signed. Ten years, $300 million, 25% of the team, and you rename it Wright Field. I don't care. Just fucking sign the guy.
  12. New Jersey, where eight runs in two-plus innings gets a stadium named after you.
  13. I'd definitely switch Hernandezes, and if you make the Seaver/Straw switch, then you could also switch Kirk for Jon Niese to fill the rotation hole if you're not comfortable with Pat Zachry pitching every fifth day. You could also go Everett --> Nino Espinosa or Youngblood --> Anthony Young to get that 11th pitcher back.
  14. I don't think of Molitor as a leadoff guy, but I guess he was, more often than not. I guess I think of him older. My point -- at least on Jankowski -- is that he's more than Tyner was. Tyner is/was a "can't steal first base" guy; speed but not much else. Jankowski can hit, and draw walks, and play defense as well as run. Butler is a much more apt best-case comparison.
  15. Fman99 wrote: Schwinden again? Blurch. Well, those runs aren't just going to give up themselves.
  16. Future first-rounder Travis Jankowski -- as hot as anyone in the country right now -- and the Seawolves (46-11) took the America East tournament easily last week, and head to Miami (36-21) to face off with UCF (39-20) and Missouri State (43-15) later this week. Games will be played at Alex Rodriguez Stadium. (HA!) Keep the hot streak alive, fellas.
  17. Edgy DC wrote: Francesa just speculated that it might be the "Jungle Fever." That's the funniest, stupidest thing ever. Honestly, I don't know why anyone listens to this guy.
  18. Benjamin Grimm wrote: If they send him down (and I think they should) I think it's entirely possible (although not probable) that that will be the last we see of him. In that case, then SEND HIM DOWN. If he's going to fall off the table -- for whatever reason -- then let him work that out in the minors rather than up with the big club.
  19. He struck out the other night (against Chapman, I think) and just looked helpless. Send him down and let him clear his head a little bit.
  20. Any of the Springers: Dennis, Steve, JCL.
  21. Why is it need to be "abolished"? If you can't do it without balking, then don't do it. If you can't call it right, then go back to umpire school until you can.
  22. I never came up with a customized superlevel for breaking the Seaver barrier. I should do that.
  23. The first rule of the CPF List is that nobody sees the CPF list.
  24. Open thanks to batmags for hooking me up with a Kevin McReynolds ticket stub!
  25. Just finished this; I was curious to know who the shoe-kicker was too. Brantley makes sense; good detective work. Really enjoyed it; Dickey's not a great writer, but he has an interesting tale.
