  1. I honestly don't know what I "want" to come out of this. I'm getting kinda numb to all this crap.
  2. Swung through Target yesterday to grab a few packs. Metly content: Scott Hairston in the first pack, Jason Bay and Bobby Parnell in the second, along with a Niese insert. Found this gem on the back of Starlin Castro's mini-1972-style card: Tsk, tsk, Topps.
  3. When I found out Harvey was from Fitch HS, my first thought was whether I ran into him at the college fair there.
  4. So true. The 2013s should be out this week some time. Target/Walmart early in the week, then at your local hobby shop by Friday.
  5. The charity he'll choose, hopefully, is the Why Don't You Fucking Get Us Some Major League Outfielders Fund.
  6. Sure the 20 home runs were sexy, but dude onbased .299 last year. That's positively Barajasian.
  7. I don't know that Bourn's the answer, really, not at the money he's going to command. He's a good player, but not a cornerstone player, not considering he's only going to get slower. I'd be very against signing him.
  8. Well, you gotta have a lot of Uptons or else you're gonna have a lot of triples bounce off the wall.
  9. Ah. Wrong Cruz. Your Cruz: My Cruz:
  10. Found the UniWatch article with this story, and now I'm even more confused, because this places it in 1981. So maybe that isn't Cruz. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=lukas/110324_white_sox_design&sportCat=mlb

That's definitely NOT Almon, who had a much longer/skinnier face, and that definitely IS Cruz, who was a Mariner in 1981. Odd. Cruz was with the White Sox in 1981, though he didn't play. He was on injury rehab and in Triple A. Then why does B-R say he spent the season in Seattle and didn't get dealt to the Sox until 1983? I'm thinking this picture has to be mid-80s. And that guy on the left I know I recognize, but I can't place him.

  13. Short guy, third from left, is definitely Julio Cruz, which puts this picture 1983-1986.
  14. I thought the second from right was one of the Forsch brothers, but neither of them was ever a Sock.
  15. I'm trying to figure out who those Sox are in that picture, and I can't get a single one. Bob James? Kevin Hickey?
  16. Gotta find a way to get him onto the active roster at some point. Great story.
  17. Bought a lithograph of Frontier Field right before we left Rochester in 1999, and framed it with autographed cards from Red Wings legends and guys we enjoyed watching over the few years we were there. Stan never played at Frontier Field, but I made sure to put him front and center when I put it together.
  18. Common thread: the Rochester Red Wings. Both in their Hall of Fame.
  19. MIB appears to be Paul of Paul's Random Stuff; I dropped him a line after I copied his post here.
  20. Didn't I read somewhere that they wanted Nickeas as a fallback to Thole? Catchers get hurt.

  24. Some info from Paul of Paul's Random Stuff: http://randombaseballstuff.com/2013/01/18/baseball-book-signings/ Spring is just around the corner, and that means a new crop of baseball books. Among them: * Mike Piazzas Long Shot is probably the one that will get the most buzz, and the former Mets catcher is scheduled to do two book signings in New York next month. One will be at the Barnes & Noble on 5th Avenue in Manhattan on Feb. 11th; the other will be at the Barnes & Noble in Carle Place on Feb. 12th. For more information, visit Mets Hot Corner. * Former Red Sox manager Terry Francona is scheduled to hold a book signing for Francona: The Red Sox Years on Wednesday, Jan. 23rd, at the Barnes & Noble on East 54th Street in Manhattan. For details, check Celebrity Book Signings & Events. * WFAN Mets broadcaster Howie Roses Put It In the Book!: A Half-Century of Mets Mania is due out March 1st. Im not sure he rates a book signing, but Im mentioning it because its the one book of this group that I actually want to read. * Dwight Goodens Doc: A Memoir is scheduled for publication on May 28th, and I would be very surprised if he doesnt have a few New York-area book signings to support it. I would totally go to a Howie Rose signing, by the way. Tempted to hit the Piazza, but I can't imagine how insane that line would be.
