A great moment spoiled by great detective work. Eddie was probably getting Roberto to sign it for him with the hope that he could someday, somehow, figure a way to sell it from his den.
Maybe after Selig overturns the bad call, he can review the home plate umpires wide strike zone toward the end of the game. That ump clearly knew what his place in history would be.
I've met Jose many times. He was as great a guy in person as he seemed on television. He always kept it real with the fans. It was sad that he couldn't perform in NY the way he had before. He was easy to root for. It's a sad day for those who appreciate good people. Look out St. Peter, it's Lima Time!
Mets fans had the Yankees fans beat in one telling category: they seem to pay a lot more attention. Not only do they monitor their team's progress more often and make more bets, they listen to substantially more sports radio (26% to 17%). This backs the old fair weather fan theory.

He still is scheduled for that award. Al Kaline will be there to accept. With a heavier heart than originally planned I'm sure.

Incidentally, Craig Anderson sold the RV after traveling the US for three years with his wife, and bought a retirement home in Dunnellon, FL, where he lives today. Occasionally helps out the pitchers at the local HS.

Later That's Scott Stricklin. A different player altogether from the bum we remember. I think the former Met is still hanging around the minors somewhere.
