  1. Ollie P. makes it back as a member of the M's.
  2. Can't find a link. Looks like he passed away Saturday. Bob was a friend of mine. I helped bring him into the area for a signing some five or so years ago. Class act. Old school gentleman. Hadn't been around in decades. The highlight for him was meeting up with Seaver. Someone he had helped tutor way back when. Seaver couldn't have been more sincere. A couple years later, he was brought back, much to the delight of Joe Torre who was an old Milwaukee Brave with Hawk. Its amazing how an obscure catcher on a cellar dwellar could have such an effect on some big time players. Spoke to him on the phone many times after that. RIP Mr. Taylor. I have a few pictures, that if I can locate, I'll put on this thread.
  3. Losing two of three to the Nats or being swept is one thing. It sucks, but I can handle it. What I didn't need was to be reminded by every passing MFY I know that my team sucks and theirs is the best thing in town. I thought it was kinda quiet after the no hitter. There were a couple of dicks that dropped the subtle "It looked like it hit the line" comment. Completely forgetting Jefffrey Maier of course. But quiet all around. Its like they wait for their moment. This is it. a meaningless three game series in June. No matter that their overpriced team of louts beat a shit team loaded with outcasts and home grown unproven kids. Theyre the best. They hit the long ball. Jeter is God. Man I hate interleague play.
  4. Pretty sure Carlin and the SNY crew questioned that move too. Did anyone watch the game?

Take all the positive with this season and throw it into the fire with a meaningless series against a team in another league that I choose not to follow but am forced to watch. Wait until next season when there's an interleague game every day of the season. I can see in the future, the pennant race coming down to the final week. We get the Braves or Marlins. Philly gets the Royals. Hooray for interleague play. This weekend is set up so MFY's media shills can piss on anything good the Mets have done all season.

  7. I logged on just to see if a poll was set up. And to think Reyes the thug had the nerve to dance and laugh in the dugout.
  8. Cone, Leiter, Zeile, Fonzie, Saberhagen.
  9. Displacement of the collarbone near the sternum. Fractured rib cartilage. Out six weeks.
  10. Listened to Howie and Josh talk about the number parallels and try to imply that our late great catcher Gary Carter provided some divine intervention. Mets had 8 runs, 8 hits. Add up the pitch count 1+3+4=8. Johan is #57, Gary 57 when he passed. Then it dawned on me that somebody wearing a Carter tshirt was celebrating with the Mets after the win. And to think security pummeled him.
  11. OK, time to get an MVP off the bucket list.
  12. I watched the first seven innings, then listened to the last two on radio with Howie. I have to say all these years watching and the occasional game where a Met pitcher looked like he was going to pitch one, I was always brought back to reality. Then i would ask myself, what were you thinking? They've never gotten one and they never will. But now they do and its great. I never understood how Houston could have such a wealth of no hitters and we have none in the same time span. Well now we do. And we have 2 championships that they don't have. Everything makes sense now. I'm one of those Met fans that think the sad sack Met fan mentatlity is somewhat endearing. That being said, there's a large part of me thats so sick of that same old Mets shit that is spewed out by the media and MFY shills. I love seeing a true warrior like Johan fight back from the abyss and put away a number one ranked offense. I'd rather see Mike Baxter make a great play to keep a no hitter alive, than watch him miss a popup with clown music playing in the background. I love the fact that Terry Collins makes a statement about expectations when you put on the Mets uniform. Thats the way Gil was. Thats the way its supposed to be. Ronnie and Keith give off that same vibe. I want to thank the wealth of pitching the Mets have shown me in my fifty years of being a Met fan. Seaver, Koosman, Ryan, Matlack, Swan, Gooden, Darling, Sid, Cone, Saberhagen, Viola, Leiter, BJones, Hampton, Glavine, Pedro, to name a few. And Johan repesenting and getting it done for all those great pitchers from the past that had the stuff but not the breaks.
  13. Jim Edmonds may be a special instructor or an advisor, but hes no longer a player.

Along those lines, mine is the women (and, yes, it's ALWAYS women) who, upon hearing the total at the supermarket check-out line when paying cash, suddenly declare to the checker; "oh wait, I have the three pennies" before proceeding to rummage through the overnight bag-sized purse for the three cents - AS IF THE FACT THAT THE TOTAL OF NINE RANDOM ITEMS NOT COMING OUT TO AN EXACT ROUND DOLLAR AMOUNT COMES AS A COMPLETE SHOCK TO THEM!!! If dumping off the three pennies rather than gaining two is so fuckin' important to you then have four pennies at the ready BEFORE YOU GET THERE so that you can dish off however many it takes to round to the nearest nickel. I've often wondered about these people. If they're always sifting through their purse for the exact change, how do they have it to begin with? Are there times when they say fuck it, and take the extra pennies? And why am I never around when they do? The only time I give exact change is to mess with the kid taking the money. I'll usually give them a penny or two, when the total is like 56 or 67 and watch them scramble to figure out the change. They always look at the register for help. I remember when you'd have to constantly count in your head. And you never got it wrong.
  17. 925 Mets 50+ seasons, never a Met with the first name Z. Two Is, 2 Ys, 1 X. No Zs. 926-Zach Lutz
  18. Disappointed, that I didn't get this one in before midnight, because the answer, Jay Hook, won the first Met game in their history 50 years ago April 23, also a Monday. This exMet, the losing pitcher of that first Met win, was involved in the freight and truck leasing business, concentrating on the former during the 1980s. He was once part-owner of R&R Trucking, Inc. He later served on the board of directors of Metro Tech in Oklahoma City and the Integris Hospice of Oklahoma County.
