  2. Reporters like Verdouchie love to point out that 2 players having great seasons for the same team usually take votes away from each other. But in this case the Brewers have #1 and #2. That logic cost the Mets in the 1988 vote.
  3. Chris Carter signed to a minors deal by the Mets. Ruben Gotay signed to a minors deal by Atlanta. Blaine Boyer released by Pittsburgh. Casey Fossum on restricted list in Buffalo. Looks like he went home. Juan Padilla signed away from the Bridgeport Bluefish to play for Yucatan of the Mexican League.
  4. Jon Nunnally fired as Indians hitting coach.
  5. What makes me think this is happening is that I just remembered Rivera got his 500th save at CitiField.
  6. I was kinda hoping his injury was a career ender. Then he can come back in a few years like Bernie Mac and get the hit off a 40 year old Sabathia.
  7. My favorite as a kid-The Hammer My older brother's favorite-Felix Millan. I mention this cause he'll be fifty in June and hasn't really followed the Mets since those days. Although, he did admit being melancholy as he sat in his construction truck watching Shea fall. He felt sad watching the ramps tumble, remembering the many times we ran down them as kids. He also realized his truck was parked right about where Swoboda made the catch. My 20 year old's favorite-Fresno Bobby. Still to this day. I don't really have favorites any more, but gun to my head I gotta go with Jose. Grab a burger with-Chip Hale. No doubt. Met I love to root for-Murphy.
  8. Theres a pretty funny video of Bautista on MLB Fan Cave http://mlbfancave.mlb.com/fancave/video.jsp?content_id=15382241&topic_id=19224580&c_id=mlb#fbid=22_Fq0FCAXP
  9. Didn't they have a Gary Carter Day back in 2003 after he made the Hall? I say no to retiring his number. Only because he's not first in the list of deserving Mets after Seaver. The 1986 Mets will be honored some time this season. If he's healthy enough to come in, then honor him that day along with his team. That's what they did with Tug back in 2003 with the 1973 team.
  10. With the injury to Houston Astros catcher Humberto Quintero, Robinson Cancel gets the call up. When he enters a game, Cancel will become a three decade major leaguer. An unusual feat considering he's appeared in less that 50 MLB games.
  11. Three things I remember about Carter. His first Met homer. The excitement we felt knowing we were going to win it all soon. The two home runs in Boston, Game 3, after Carter and his wife pretty much slept off the previous two losses and the drama of Houston. The first hit of the Game 6 miracle. You could see it in his face that he felt there was no way he was going to be the guy that made the last out. Best to you kid. Let's start another miracle.
  12. So this team now has a Chip and Dale to go along with the Mike and Ike from earkier this season.
  13. This is exactly how I felt when I first read the New Yorker piece. Wilpon seemed like a man looking over his shoulder and his candidness in front of a reporter really surprised me. My first thought was shit he's not pursuing Reyes. It seemed like he tipped his hand in any possible negotiations. Sad days ahead for true Met fans. I've been looking for a light for a long time that may never come. I've really come to loathe everything about the Mets except the name.
  14. BN: MLB is forcing me to watch MFY games this weekend. GN: I get to watch the Mets at the same time.
  15. Endy Chavez recalled by the Texas Rangers.
  16. Endy Chavez recalled by the Texas Rangers.
  17. I always thought Jim Thome reminded me of Killebrew. Quiet power hitter that slowly accumulated a fantastic career. I was glad to see the two of them bond and Thome give him his just due when he came to Minnesota. Sadly, he's not the only HOFer struggling physically. Word is Stan the Man and Brooksie aren't too healthy either.
  18. My wife gave me one- I still hate the fucking Yankees.
  19. She's pirdie. The 2011 Mets "Ya Gotta Be-kidding me".
  20. Winning in 2011. It's like money in the bank.
  21. Meet the Mets, Greet the Mets, step right up and wish the Mets well with their next team.
  22. I went last night. Only like the fifth time in 3 years that I've gone and made a few observations. The crowd seems different, somewhat lifeless. I didn't even hear the obnoxous 'balk' cheer when the opposing pitcher stepped off. People get ridiculously excited with pizza box races and t shirt launches. They'll fucking kill you for that shirt. The Mets had a potential rally going while they repositioned my section for the box race. A free slice was at stake. I'd be a dick and ask for the cash equivalent. Brian Wilson looks like a courier. A courier that's winning. That hairdo is ridiculous. Nice touch having Seaver and Piazza getting the 'Let's Go Mets' chant going on the scoreboard. But Mikey better redo that shot and fix his hair. It aint helping his 'I'm not gay" stance. The usher is still checking tickets in the tenth inning. WTF? Get lost. I miss buying trays of beer. Just not financially practical anymore. Any swinging dick that had an old military uniform seemed to dust if off and break it out last night to receive thanks for them personally killed Bin Laden. I saw one guy that looked like Vanderbilt from 'F Troop'. The whole fucking world is a front runner.
  23. The hats sent out subliminal messages to buy Carvel.
  24. Some more from the Indys: Argenis Reyes-New Jersey Jackals (CanAm League) Mike Bacsik-Fort Worth Cats (American Association player/coach) Victor Diaz-Rockford RiverHawks (Frontier League)
