  1. Since this is the 50th season, and its a celebration of the best of 50 years, shouldn't games this year be able to unseat ones from the past? Think of how many times that happened in the 25th season.
  2. And after all the talk, all the same old same old, the Mets finish the weekend with the same 2-1 record as the MFYs.
  3. I can watch Marlins miscues and poor pitching all day long with the Mets. I only wish Hermida and Ross could have been involved.
  4. Some hangers on in the independent Atlantic League this season so far: Prentice Redman-Bridgeport Bluefish Tim Hamulack, Matt Watson-Lancaster Barnstormers Bill Pulsipher, Jason Anderson-Somerset Patriots
  5. Went to a signing about 5 years ago with my Met book in tow. I keep a cheat sheet in the book with the list of Mets I'd like to see and their uni number courtesy of MBTN. Been carrying the list for years. Reason being its easier to identify the player's scratch with a number attached. So I meet Goose in the lobby and get to talking. Great guy. Tough looking too. Later on at the signing, the announcer asks if anyone knows Goose's number while he was a Met. I shout out '10'. Goose without even looking up from the photo he was signing shouts back 'Thanks Lou' from some 30 feet away. No, thanks MBTN. RIP Goose.
  6. Neil Allen will be the pitching coach for the Durham Bulls in the same IL as Super Joe.
  7. The Clines comment was just an observation unrelated to John Milner.
  8. Looks like Gene Clines in that photo.
  9. Omar's impending firing...Los Mets...Tony B...changing of the guard...Ahh, it got a laugh at the ballpark.
  10. A little chilly at the game. Some people got choked up when they lowered the Dominican flag after the game.
  11. Bob Shaw, a major league pitcher best known for helping shut out Sandy Koufax and the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 5 of the 1959 World Series, has died of liver caner at his Jupiter home. He was 77.. Shaw spent eleven years in the major leagues, pitched for the Tigers, Athletics, Braves, Giants, Mets and Cubs. His best season was in 1959, when he went 18-6 with a 2.69 ERA for the White Sox. The team made it to the World Series, but fell behind 3-1 to the Dodgers. Shaw combined with Billy Pierce and Dick Donovan for a 1-0 victory in Game 5 at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum, sending the series back to Chicago, where the Dodgers ultimately prevailed. After leaving the big leagues in 1967, Shaw held a number of coaching positions and went into business as a citrus grove owner and real estate investor, his daughter Karen Sowden said. He worked until becoming too sick in May, she said. Aside from his son and Sowden, Shaw is survived by his wife, Asta, and another daughter, Linda Gehring. A memorial service was planned for Wednesday at Jupiter First Church.

Born Wayne Lee Twitchell he attended Wilson High School in Portland, where he was a three-sport athlete, excelling at basketball, football and baseball, earning varsity letters 9-times overall. The following year with the Phillies, Twitchell pitched in 6 games, positing a 1 win 0 loss record, with a 0.00 ERA in 16 innings pitched. He reached the pinnacle of his career in 1973 with the Phillies, when he notched 13 victories, 10 complete games, including 5 shutouts (third in the league), with 169 strikeouts, and a 2.50 ERA, earning National League All-Star status. 13. Hopefully they get him name right on his uni. Hate to see the guy come out with this on his back: A DUD.
  14. Cal McLish. Dem Bums are down to 57 living.

  16. Whitey Lockman, the runner on second came home last year, followed by Clint Hartung, the runner on third, last month. Now Bobby is home and can celebrate with his boys in the clubhouse. RIP to a guy who handled winning better than anyone I've ever met.

  18. KRod. All three have been in jail this year.
  19. I think an amazing aspect of the Mets inability to pitch a no hitter is that four times they pitched a one hitter and the one hit was by the opposing pitcher. Four times. That's amazing. It's never gonna happen.
  20. Starting pitching, Ike Davis, Chip Hale, Gary/Keith/Ron, Ralph Kiner, CitiField.
  21. I've met Larry more than once. Great guy. He also commented on Hot Rod Kanehl and Gene Woodling's page.
  22. Pete Incaviglia?
  23. Jeff Burroughs has to be the third baseman.
  24. Interesting that number 666 was Nitkowski, a devout Christian. It was also the number of Mets on 9/11.
  25. I thought watching R.A.'s pitching performances on tape for hours and hours would be considered a Dickey-thon. And guessing Ralph's stats would put you in the Terry Puhl.
