  1. That's not the same Mendoza coaching the SI MFYs. Our Carlos has darker features. I think he's living back in VZ. I noticed Wikipedia has it wrong about him coaching.
  2. It's the same hotel as the Tarasco/Corey incident as well. They also found a body in a shopping cart a few years back.
  3. Was Armando Reynoso mentioned? I thought a Stoner inspired trivia thread would have mentioned Jason Roach, Jung Bong or Phil Coke.
  4. Lol. It would have been nice to hear Gary's call of that crazy play at home. Give me the emotion over the natural sounds.
  5. Definitely Candy Man in 1987. And Jesse Hudson in 1969. Dean Chance in 1970?
  6. One of those '87 guys has to be Moose Milligan.
  7. Holy crap. I was just about to add Esix to my post. Rememeber the walkoff?
  8. It used to be Jeff Francoeur.
  9. Too bad Les didn't come to the reunion. He seems like my kind of guy. http://www.billingsgazette.com/sports/baseball/professional/major/article_a9397f3c-8254-11de-aa87-001cc4c002e0.html
  10. No, I knew. Guy just seemed old and harmless.
  11. I once saw Ed in the lobby of a hotel in NJ at a signing a few years back. When he walked past my daughters, he gave my youngest a playful pat on the head. A harmless gesture from an elderly man, but it still gave me douche chills.
  12. I coached my son's LL team for years. I took the responsibility of the safety of the other kids very serious. So did our league. Our coaches were required to attend both coaching and umpiring clinics. The clinics were taught by high school and college coaches that volunteered their time. Their angle for us was to try and teach the kids properly and they would take it at the next level. The league was very concerned about insurance and safety and were on top of any injuries that occured. Stationery bases were a big no-no at the younger level. Safety bases were used at first to avoid collisions. Helmets with masks for first base and pitcher, even safety vests for batters all at the younger levels. We were even required to inspect the field before games. We weren't in a wealthy neighborhood and the equipment wasn't always top notch. But the group was solid, responsible, and accountable. I'm not so sure I'd want to coach again without that type of structure. Especially after a suit like this one.
  13. Lasorda only pitched in a handful of games in '55. He definitely wasn't on any playoff roster. My guess is a couple of oldtimers from back in the day when mystique and aura were nowhere to be found.
  14. #7 is definitely Bunning and Vinegar Bend Mizell. Have no clue on a third.
  15. OK. #6 is Ryan, Niekro, Goose, Sutton, Marichal Edgy had Niekro.

  19. ="Edgy DC"]="seawolf17"]Dammit! These guys need to stop dying before I can get them to sign cards. What's killing me is that we're getting reports of their deaths days or weeks later. What the hell?! These are Mets. I track these things somewhat, for my autograph pursuits. Two of the longest unreported Met passings, in my memory, were Mike Bishop and Danny Napoleon. Bishop was about 3 months. Napoleon was about a year and a half before there were any reports. Talk about gone and forgotten.
  20. I have a modest Met collection myself. Cards, photos, index cards, and a book with over 550 former and current Mets autographs in it. Earlier this year, I wrote to Jay and he asked me if I could help him locate any cards or photos for his family. I was able to get him about 3-4 WIZ cards and a Mets 8x10 off the internet. He couldn't have been happier. He wrote me a long letter and promised when he one day headed to NY, would meet up with me and sign my book. He told me his 2 weeks as a Met were among the greatest in his life. Whenever he signed, he wrote 1976 Mets. So sorry to hear of his passing.
  21. Jay Kleven resident of San Lorenzo passed away unexpectedly on June 30th at the age of 59. He was a loving, caring man who lived his life to the fullest. He was a graduate of San Lorenzo High and Cal State Hayward. After college he was signed by the New York Mets and worked his way up to the "show" in 1976. He was an educator of many and was currently working as a teacher for the San Lorenzo School District. He loved his family, friends and his San Francisco Giants. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Terry, his son Jerry, daughter-in-law Kristina. His three brothers Geoff, Jory and Jerry and their families. His brother-in-law John and sister-in-law Cindy and their families. His many wonderful nieces and nephews and many, many great friends. He was also preceeded in death by his parents Jerry and Joy Kleven and John and Frances Flores. Services will be held on Friday July 10th at 2pm at St. Johns Church on Lewelling Blvd in San Lorenzo. In lieu of flowers our families asks that you make a donation in "Jay's" name to either the San Leandro Sports Foundation at 151 Callan Ave., Ste 306, San Leandro, CA 94577, or to the San Lorenzo High School Boosters Club.
  22. In defense of the "other" players, who knows what their motives were? Maybe they were on the bubble as far as playing time or staying on the team. Imagine the pressure of maintaining your playing performance, while working under a nut job like Billy Martin and his lush ass kissing cronies? Or maybe Brian Kingman was a dick that needed a good ass kicking.
  23. Tweeze those brows.
