  2. Came across this obit. Apparently Bill passed on 2/2/22 https://obituaries.nationalcremation.com/obituaries/sarasota-fl/william-short-10566977 https://obituaries.nationalcremation.com/obituaries/sarasota-fl/william-short-10566977
  3. It's listed now. Check Twin Cities Pioneer Press. It's listed as Bob ‘Rocky' Johnson.

  6. Trying to locate a good source. But there are tweets reporting the death of Jerry Buchek, 76. Gene Okerlund, Bob (Super Dave, Funkhauser) Einstein and Daryl (The Captain) Dragon all reportedly died today too. All 4 men were 76.
  7. Happy New Year. Always happy to see the Forum improved.
  8. Not the comedian. The exMet pitcher. https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/azcentral/obituary.aspx?n=larry-don-miller&pid=188702748
  9. Thanks for the well wishes Edgy. Unfortunately Mom passed February 13th. She was 91, was in her recliner watching television with my sister by her side. She felt her time was near and chose to live her remaining days in the house she callled home for 50 years. It was important to leave on her terms. Again thank you.
  10. Hi guys, Haven’t posted in forever but came here looking for Tommy Moore info and figured I’d shed some light. I was messaged by a friend in AZ that was trying to reach out to Tommy, I imagine to get an autograph. He received a message from Tommy’s wife that he passed. The only thing I could find immediately was that Wikipedia posting. Apparently done by a family member. I told some of my Mets fan buddies. I’m guessing one of them reached out to UMDB. George, Joe, Ed, Mark, Lee, David or Steve. I have been friendly with Tommy for several years due to my pursuits and we became long distance phone buddies. Last April he signed a bunch of things for me and others in my group. He had a blast and had some great tales to tell me about his Mets days. I have not spoken to him since due to my own Moms falling health and a long distance move South. Anyway, I was able to locate information through Facebook with what appears to be Tommy’s children and a grandsons wife and his passing appears to be true. The Facebook tribute postings are at the date given on Wikipedia. I have messaged his wife and son and hope to hear back, but you never know. Just wanted to let you guys know. If I receive any info I’ll pass it along. Peace Lou

  12. I'm still around Edgy. Always enjoy reading this page. You guys are a wealth of knowledge, far more advanced than I can contribute. So I stick to what I know. My historical Mets and watching and rooting and hoping for something big.
  13. Not sure if it's been addressed, but recently on an autograph collector's site, I read the enclosed posting. I haven't had luck locating any further information. From Sports Collector Net with regard to Dick Smith: Similar to the Ron Slocum mystery, I had suspected that this former Met and Dodger had passed. On the way home from a family reunion in Oregon, I stopped by mobile home park listed in the Address books. A caretaker as well as the mobile park manager confirmed that Dick had passed away three-four years ago.

According to the caption to this photo, which I've learned in many instances can be wrong with these online photo places, this is that ex-Met player pitching batting practice for the Dodgers in 1973. Who is he? His name is in this thread somewhere. That doesn't look like anything like Chris Cannizzaro but he was the only one-time Met on that team. Valentine was on the Angels in '73. I wonder if the Dodgers would've retired Gil's number had they remained in Brooklyn? Tom Paciorek was on that team too. Doesn't look like him either.

  17. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Toppless as a Met, this hurler threw his last major league pitch in a Met uniform. Above, the Man From Topps snapped him in the uniform of the new Washington Senators - a rare picture because the mystery pitcher was never Toppsed in a Senators uniform. This looks like Tom Sturdivant.
  18. batmagadanleadoff wrote: This ex-Met was a Toppless Brewer. His lone Mets card had to be adjusted just before Topps went to press because his name was sort of misspelled. This is Tommie Reynolds.

  20. batmagadanleadoff wrote: batmagadanleadoff wrote: On his Padres resume, there's one heckuvanoutstanding season. On his Met resume, there's nothing but the quiet desperation of a player on the fringes of major league baseball. Topps never bothered to put him on a card in a Met uniform. But The Man From Topps -- he loves those early San Diego duds and the candy colored stands that circle the inside of old Shea Stadium. bump Dave Roberts

  22. This year's edition of 'Where did they go right?' features exMetsies that found their way into the 2012 playoffs. Bud's 'Stay for a day or play all the way' format. Leading off for the Buck-O's-Luis Ayala. A couple of Met favorites Omar 'couldn't handle the rigors of the 2012 Mets standards' Quintanilla and Endy 'hit the ball, I catch the ball' Chavez and coach Wayne Kirby. For Larry's Bravos, the other Miggy-Miguel Batista, and the man who makes everyone in Atlanta say Leo who?, pitching coach Roger McDowell. The Tigers represent with old fossil Octavio Dotel. Big Red Machine goes with super subs, the definitely not that Miggy, Miguel Cairo and strong armed Wilson Valdez. Texas has Greggies bro, pitching coach Mike Maddux. Lastly, the Giants, the opposite of our Citi by the Bay (unfortunately in our case its Jason) sport a boat load of where are they now talent, Guillermo 'will you ever retire?' Mota Joaquin 'your welcome Matt Cain' Arias Marco 'Scoots' Scutaro Angel 'better than Andres' Pagan The X-factor Mr Nady and led by pumpkin headed Bruce Bochy Some honorable mention go to Texas coach Gary Pettis, minor league talent Jesus Flores of DC and Yusemerio Petit in SF. Chip Hale who found out that Moneyball beats out Terryball. Of course the Gnats have old Davey. Not too many this year. I guess current Mets either find the trap door to the abyss after leaving the team or are forced to spend eternity in the Mets system. Something that can be as painful to us as it is them. Thankfully no MFYs.

  24. Thank you. Needed a reason to believe. I have to say as bad as its been, we got to see a no hitter and hopefully a 20 game winner and Cy Young. Throw in DW and the hit record. That ain't nothin.
  25. Two things occured to me tonight. The Mets will not win 70 games this season. David Wright will set the all time record for hits as a Met with maybe 100 people in attendance.
