  1. And while we wait for Ruf to unfuck himself: https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/giants/giants-jd-davis-darin-ruf-swap-continues-pay-big-wayhttps://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/giants/giants-jd-davis-darin-ruf-swap-continues-pay-big-way This may be one of the Mets worst trades in recent years.
  2. I'll go with former Met Jeff Kent (Giants and Dodgers)?
  3. [bLOCKQUOTE]Kelleher appeared in five games at Shea in 1977, but in one of them Ron Hodges caught for the Mets, so that leaves these four: https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxehttps://www.baseball-reference.com/boxe ... 9181.shtml https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxehttps://www.baseball-reference.com/boxe ... 9172.shtml https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxehttps://www.baseball-reference.com/boxe ... 9171.shtml https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxehttps://www.baseball-reference.com/boxe ... 7130.shtml[/bLOCKQUOTE] If this is accurate, then the baserunner on the yearbook cover is safe, since Kelleher is recorded as scoring a run in some of the above, but never being forced out at home. One of the games, incidentally, was a makeup from a contest postponed by the NYC blackout! I think that that game, the first of a DH on 9.17 is the one depicted. Too much time on my hands!
  4. I wonder now—as I did at age 7–if the cubs runner was safe or out on that play. Ten cranebucks to anyone who can find the game/play.
  5. Yes, that's the one. Thank you
  6. Random memories of Bad Dude. I remember him being among the few bright spots on the dismal teams of the late 70s and early 80s. Often described as "fast" and not just "for a catcher." Loved the yearbook cover (78?) photo of him chasing down a baserunner and leaping for the tag. Lost significant time to a finger injury sustained from a foul ball which had to kill his ego as a football player. "The monster is out of the cage!"
  7. Question (I'm too lazy to look it up): How does the MM affect stats? Like ERA-- is it counted against the pitcher? Does a batter who drives him in get the RBI? Does the ghost runner accrue the run he scores?
  8. Wrong Chris Young-- the Ivy Leaguer is actually the Texas Rangers' GM. This guy went to Mississippi State.
  9. How's that August Magic Number Countdown decision looking now?
  10. JD Davis has an OPS over 900 since being traded to SF. I'd rather we had acquired a BP arm for him, but boy we could use some of that offense these days.
  11. Not a fan, to be honest.
  12. I'll say Bobby Abreu makes both lists.
  13. Miguel Cabrera, HR1
  14. 16 of the last 39 games are against last-place teams. I'll take that.
  15. Damn. 0/5 with 5 K's and they run Naquin right back out there the next day.
  16. Friday night-- one run in ten innings. Saturday night--one run in eight. Sunday--six runs in eight (four of which came in one frame), Monday--one run in nine. Tuesday--zero in nine. Nine runs in five games, with scores in only 5 of 44 frames.
  17. This is what happens when you start a magic number countdown in the second week of August. #baseballgods #karma
  18. Was at the game with my daughter-- great crowd, lots of energy. I remember going to games as a kid and the food was awful-- cold hotdogs and soggy pretzels. Remarkable how much better the fare has gotten. They really need to get rid of those auto shops, though.
  19. Disgusting. Adults acting like assholes.
  20. Thats a fun one. I think of Ron Hodges and Ed Kranepool but getting to four is gonna be tough. Wright--Reyes--?
  21. Hit a monstrous first-inning HR in Pittsburgh on a Sunday when the Pirates wore gorgeous 1979 throwbacks. I remember because shortly after I had to drive to the ER as the result of a home repair incident.
  22. The Phillies got better. Robertson, Syndergaard and Marsh are all improvements. And they're getting Harper back soon too, no? Bader to the Yankees is a homecoming in that he is a local kid (Bronx)
  23. He's probably my favorite. From his progressive politics to his epicureanism (his "big league foodie" IG account) and now his embracing of the city---plus his production---what's not to like?
