  2. yeah, i must admit that i was struck by the smallness of hte villain's aims. like, the dude has tremendous computer skillz, has amassed quite a little empire for himself, and all he wants is to kill m? sure, he's done some very bad things along the way, but, sheesh, all we're really exposed to was his mommy issues. okaaayy...
  3. i saw it with the wifey a week or so back. we both enjoyed it very much. i like that it had none of the goofiness of some bond eras. it's been a while since i saw a connery bond, so i'm not terribly able to compare the two. as such, i gave it a 4-star score. it might be better, it might not be, but it really is good. the main villain was excellent. i found hte plot mostly lacking in egregious holes or unnecessary globe-trotting. i thought hte hong kong bit was a touch overwrought and underexplained, but my biggest problem overall was the commuter train punching hole after hole in solid stone walls with nary a scratch or crumple, but, model-making - whatchagonnado. i suppose i should quibble at teh effetiveness of the armor afforded by the excavator in teh opening scene, but worse has surely been committed in teh cinematic stoppage of poorly-aimed bullets. very stylish overall, as you would expect.
  4. unless it's a birthday hat. then rock on.
  5. getting worked up over valdespin wearing a marlins hat as a fashion accessory. i mean, he looks like a fool in the photo - has he not even been paying attention this offseason? - but really, he can wear whatever he damned well pleases.
  6. nonsense and foolishness.
  7. bill james predicts the following for cory hart in 2013: 27 homers in 624 plate appearances, slash lines of 271 / 334 / 490 with a wOBA of 0.349 bill james predicts the following for lucas duda in 2013: 18 homers in 510 plate appearances, slash lines of 268 / 356 / 454 with a wOBA of 0.352 in other words, lucas duda is projected to be the better hitter. and corey hart is slated to be a first baseman for the brewers next year. how does that appreciably help out our outfield defense? duda is cheaper, should walk more frequently, and strike out less, with room to improve. he's a butcher in right field, but might not be godawful in left. hart is, of course, a more predictable commodity.
  8. other comparables for wright include carl yastrzemski, chipper jones, carlos beltran, gary sheffield and george brett. those comparables of his who have retired to date (yaz, sheff, brett, and del ennis), and thus have a complete career, averaged 26 WAR from their age 30 season to the end of their career. using the current $/WAR value, this translates to an expected value of $117M. hell, even scott rolen, felled by injuries, logged 22 WAR from age 30 onward, good for $99M at current exchange rates. scott rolen is a bit of a stealth hall of fame candidate. oh, in other news, robinson cano is basically hte same player as carlos baerga. sorry yankee fans. you're screwed. using similarity scores as presented on bbref to project out a player's career is bunk. just stop it.

  11. DW: jeff, i'm glad you came to meet me here. now, listen, i'd love to come back to the team and take your daddy's money and be as excited as implausibly possible, but before i can commit to anything, i just need to know... JW: well we really want you back. anything you need to know, just ask. DW: ok... [nervoulsy sticks tongue out side of mouth] JW: what is it? DW: it's just... your hair... what IS that?
  12. i expect to be in the minority here, but i rather like it.
  13. unless you don't expect to have it in the first place, of course.
  14. smg58 wrote: The latest report is that Dickey would sign for 2 years and $26M. If that is indeed the price, there is no sensible reason to say no. if that's the price, and especially if he's still only going to cost $5M next year, i'd jump on that like a sugar-addled suburbanite kid on a backyard trampoline
  15. dickey for reyes is a terrible idea. simply terrible. there's no way i want any part of that reyes contract, as much as i would love to have him back. especially not at the cost of an underpaid cy young award winner, and an underpaid up and coming young shortstop.
  16. ra dickey, to show him what's in store after he signs his own extension.
  17. he looks like a fun guy to be around.
  18. if we trade him, it better be worth it.
  19. not that he needs a short porch, but i imagine putting mark reynolds in pinstripes would cause more than a few balls to leave the yard.
  20. one soul
  21. maybe we could dial down the creepy just a smidge...
  22. bixler's no mashed turnips is he?
  23. also, hooray!
  24. why is the $16M he was already due being factored into the silly math of "biggest contract evarrrrr", if only to allow the story to stay the same that he wanted in excess of santana money, when clearly, he did not.
