  1. yeah, man, they really fucked up the past offseason. inexcusable what they allowed to happen to the team.
  2. the mets could have a 6-7 year window, or a 1-year window, depending on how hard they went at this trade deadline. i think they're looking at this team as capable of competing this year, but also being a juggernaut moving forward with the good prospects they have just about to ripen. alvarez, baty, vientos, and mauricio could all be playing in flushing next year, which frees up a fair bit of capital to throw at pitchers. i like what they're doing in this regard.
  3. or they look at mccann's 0.200 babip for the season and think, yeah, that should get better without costing us a player.
  4. =Fman99 post_id=102229 time=1659616717 user_id=86] This would all be much easier to stomach if McCann wasn't so fucking bad at hitting.
  5. this is the kind of game the mets get no-hit in, isn't it? at least... the old mets. no clue about these new mets.
  6. his last name would be cooler without that annoying S
  7. i'm not loving this. not hating it exactly, because i think the only people in baseball who still loved jd davis were mets fans dreaming about trading him for other teams' stars. but still... otoh, i do like the potential platoon dh we've built here in rufelbach. now go turn dom smith into willson contreras, damnit.
  8. steve phillips has been doing the morning drive show on the mlb radio sirius/xm channel for a long time. gotta say, i rather enjoy him there.
  9. ah... it does actually look, according to rumors on mlb tv, like SD is paying the last three years on hos. so yeah, there's value there of course!
  10. i don't get at all why the nats would take hos and effectively give away bell. only plausible explanation is that there's somehow "value" to having a guy on contract, instead of the uncertainty of a pending free agent. when, like, selling a team, of course. there's no baseball sense to it.
  11. yo, as long as i'm still earl, it's all good.
  12. it's a trap. well, at least it could be.
  13. oh ok. i gotcha. yeah, i think i'm ok with that. like if the padres beat the brewers and the dodgers, the mets should be the home team in the NLCS. sign me up. there's no plausible reason that should be more of a scheduling encumberance on the teams or the league than the alternative.
  14. i think the division winner should outrank the wildcard teams, seedingwise, always. winning your division needs to mean something.
  15. would the brewers-phillies winner play the dodgers, or the mets? basically, what determines the top-seededness in teh wild card series? does the division winner get the 3-seed, or is that round determined by record? because i would think the 1-seed would play the winner of the 4-5 game, and not the winner of the 3-6 game. usually the 1-seed always the easiest of the available pairings. in this case, of course, the 4-5 matchup is gnarlier than the 3-6. i'm pretty sure i'd rather face the brewers (still no easy task) in the second round than either the braves or the padres!
  16. he goes into the post game interview with a list of things that he wants to highlight. i speculate that he does it as something of a way of reinforcing the messaging that he has ongoing in the clubhouse with the players, and also to not give away the inner workings, of course. you ask a question, and he gives the answer he wanted to give. overall, i've got no real problem with it.
  17. yeah, i mean, any world cup games that happen in "ny" will be obviously happening in nj, in the meadowlands. duh. unless it's the jets and not nyfc that get a new stadium in queens. not in some quaint little indoor arena.
  18. red bulls arena seats 25,000 as well.
  19. oh. well, the mets will be so completely, utterly dominant in the playoffs that they won't need degrom to pitch enough innings over his regular season total to put him over the 60 inning mark. or they'll get bounced in the first round. or fail to make it. really, are we projecting playoff innings too?
  20. there's 66ish games left in the season, meaning the available innings left in the season are 69% as many as those already pitched. meaning, for the rest of the season, if someone were to pitch with sandy alcantara's workload (144IP to date) for the remainder of the season, he would pitch 99 more innings. if someone were to pitch to chris bassit's workload (109 IP) for the remainder of the season, he would pitch 75 more innings. it feels safe to say that degrom is unlikely to pitch more than 60 innings, if only because i expect him to come back with something of a reduced workload, but still a workload befitting a nearly full time starting pitcher. david peterson's workload (73 IP) gets him to about 50. i'd be ok with that.
  21. holy shit, it's been a precipitous decline these past two weeks...
  22. the '16 all star game duds were an homage to the 1978 padre uniforms which were, well, awesome. v-neck and all. and don't make me have to start defending the racing stripes uniforms. which, well, they sounded like they were just awful to actually wear. but goddamn were they cool looking.
  23. That dude presents a hell of an argument against the beards and long hair movement going about baseball these days.
