  1. oh good. then i'm glad i just accidentally closed the window wherein i was writing up a scathing reply using all the bad words i've learned from fman over the years. whew! that would have been awkward. i still think that o'connor went above and beyond in getting 2 strikeouts facing the opposition's 3-4-5 in the 10th inning, and that he and niese should get something out of it. while i disagree that a loss should be a de-facto 5, given that constraint, and the whole number voting, i can mostly go along with the pelfrey 5. the fact that 2 consecutive voters gave identical pelfrey 5's to the exclusion of anybody else raised an eyebrow. i was curious.

Either (or both) of those would have made everything else moot. well, willie harris went 0-4 with two k's and 2 lob's. that pretty much negated and really outweighed his defensive contribution for me. granted it was a fairly high leverage situation, but i don't factor that in. perhaps that could be a future upgrade to the 'bot...

Pelf did all the heavy lifting and got shafted by his offense. i'm not arguing against the 5 for pelfrey at all - if i were i'd mention something about only getting one strikeout. i'm arguing against the big fat zero for everybody else, especially o'connor and niese, who really could not have done more to help the mets win given their opportunities. i just wonder, if we won the game, would o'connor get some beer? and how does a pitcher hitting a pinch-hit triple with two outs in the bottom of the eleventh not get a sip? i don't intend to be combative. i'm merely hoping to raise a philosophical point. i think we get stingy in losses is all. and if the efforts of oconnor and niese are negated by the loss, then why aren't pelfrey's.

  5. i don't get the "pelfrey 5, nothing to nobody else" for monday night's loss to the fish. i understand an unwillingness to hand out barley pop to the batters, given that we mustered only one run through 11 innings. but what of the pitchers, save igarashi and byrdak? was izzy's 2/3 of an inning stranding an inherited runner not good? and o'connor's two-strikeout tenth? and, of course, what of jon niese hitting a triple there? was that all useless because jose reyes couldn't drive him in? i ask you, if jose manages to poke a single there, driving in niese, would your schaefer tally then be pelfrey 5 reyes 5? or was the performance of our pitchers only worthy of a beer if we win the game? the outcome of the game neither defines nor negates the efforts of the players.
  6. fuck my spreadsheet. jon niese just for a fucking six.
  7. wow. that sucked too.
  8. this either makes it easier or harder to trade reyes. i'm not sure which one.

  11. carlos beltran broke another man's face with his own, only missed 4 games, and has been called soft for the majority of his tenure. fucking met fans.
  12. Wright 2.7 Bay 2.0 Misch 1.8 Martinez 1.5 Paulino 1.2 Buchholz 0.8
  13. hmm. i'm kindof surprised i gave beltran so low a score. that i gave points out to 7 players instead of the regular 6 was a big hit to him, but the tie for 6th forced my hand! i will say that, on an absolute scale, beltran's was the highest rated game i have on record this season. unfortunately for him, i vote on a relative scale.

  15. i like the look of the black home jersey, honestly. it's not bad. i don't prefer it to the others they have on tap, but i don't hate it. i'm not a fan of the black away jersey, and i do hate the black hat with the blue brim, though. and all the other bfbs. but the home jersey isn't bad. i love the pinstripes and the snow whites and the off-whites.

  17. in the game on the 9th, how did chris capuano's batting (or decided lack thereof) factor into the voting?
  18. winning is just a thing charlie sheen does
  19. let me ask a question. if the mets are unable/unwilling to extend reyes this year, AND the mets are significantly out of contention this year, BUT they are interested in bringing him back as a free agent, does it hurt their chances appreciably to trade him? the biggest risk of course is that he is traded to a contender and falls in love with their team / city / competitiveness. but if he hits free agency, our money is as good as anybody else's (hmm, i guess that's not necessarily true anymore, but assuming that it is...). if we're going to lose him, i'd rather get something in return. but my preference is to sign him fast, snatch him up real quick, and not let go for a good long time. and then i'd do the same thing with david wright.

  22. when was the last time you saw someone slide feet-first into third for a triple?
  23. Pelfrey 4.6 Rodriguez 1.5 Reyes 1.4 Wright 0.9 Beltran 0.9 Bay 0.7
  24. i'm interested in how often a player's position matches his spot in the batting order. pitchers batting leadoff, catchers second, etc etc.
