well, yeah, but if you give him enough cash to cover the taxes on the merch and the taxes on the cash, he won't have to pay a nickle. lets say you have a 20% tax rate on $100 of merch. you tack on $20 to cover the tax, but you've gotta pay tax on the $20. so the equation you have is Y = T * (X + Y) where Y is the cash, X is the merch, and T is the tax rate. in my above example, that turns into the following math (showing all my work): Y = 0.20 * (100 + Y) Y = 20 + 0.20*Y Y - 0.20*Y = 20 0.80*Y = 20 Y = 20 / 0.80 Y = 25 so with a 20% tax rate on $100 of merchandise, $25 takes care of the whole tax bill.

i must say, i'm fucking impressed. i also must say that today was the worst case scenario. he actually hit his homer to a fair part of the park. i was really hoping for it to have been a short pop fly to the right field stands. but no. left center and deep. motherfucking yankee motherfucker

if you want to look at the all star outfield spots by position, instead of as one lumped group, then carlos beltran deserves it. he's the 2nd best right fielder in the NL this year at 2.9 WAR to upton's 3.0. i decided to run an exercise whereby i identified the top two players at each position, as well as the best player on each team, and tried to populate an allstar team with the results. i also looked at the top 8 starters and, reluctantly, the top 4 relievers, to mirror the makeup of the current all star game rosters. here's what i get - i'll start with the AL: for the most part, the top two position players takes care of things. only oakland, minnesota, and chicago are left out. but minnesota and chicago have the third-best centerfielder and shortstop, respectively. so it's really only oakland that mucks up the works. but we need another pitcher so gio gonzalez gets the nod, and prevents me from chosing between 1.1 war relievers. as the rangers' best player, ian kinsler joins the squad. his teammates adrian beltre and cj wilson are among the tops in their positions, but i figured the best player on each team should play. and it's not like he hurts the roster. so, by doing all of that, i ended up with a good, full roster. well, sortof. i thought, hmm. what would i have to do to get jeter on the roster. well, i'd have to add a provision for living legends, i guess. well, arod kindof takes care of that for the AL, right? so we'll have two living legends. and that way derek jeter can join the squad. in the NL, things go about as smoothly. florida, houston, and chicago get left out in the cold from the top-two position players. but gaby sanchez is the 3rd best first baseman, and while michael bourn is the 4th best centerfielder, we'd already got plenty of phillies, so shane victorino's 4.4 WAR can suck it. the cubs' best pitcher is matt garza, and even though we've already got sean marshall in the relief corps, i feel compelled to bring along the best cub as well. plus, he's better than gio gonzalez. and as the 11th best starter in the nl, he's not missing by much. as the best padre, cameron maybin joins the party as well, though he's a weak candidate. i suppose i could give his spot to victorino, but he's a douche. and thanks to derek jeter, we give our living legend spot to chipper jones. he's got 86 career WAR to jeter's 73, ya know. and since jeter was only the 2nd most legendary player in his league, we also get to add albert pujols and his 85 career WAR. jeter sits behind national leaguers scott rolen (74) and pudge rodriguez (73) on the WAR leader board, and is lucky that andruw jones (70) isn't getting much playing time, or he'd be at risk of losing his AL legend spot. anyways, my rosters: AL:
