  1. Four walks in an inning is just unacceptable. If they hit their way on, OK. But you can't just hand it to them like that. They need bullpen help if they're going to do anything this year. Can't score 12 every game.
  2. Adcock duz the job. Could be out there for the 7th, too.
  3. Megill punching his ticket back to Syracuse.
  4. Edgy MD wrote: What I love perhaps more than anything is the Groterian (Grotesque?) authority he takes over the staff. Long have I lamented that one of the hardest things about developing a catcher from your minor league system is that it's hard for a young catcher to take that role with veteran pitchers who have more experience than them, or with peers they've come up from the minors with, all while trying to hit enough to stick. The most authoritative catchers the Mets have had (Grote, Stearns, Carter ...) have all come from outside the system. But Álvarez gives no shits. He's controlling the at-bats and calling shots for his pitchers, and they seem to trust him to do so, and maybe fear him a little bit. Yeah, this is what's impressive even more than the hitting. This is a veteran staff and a 22-year-old kid is taking charge. I thought he'd be a hitting first, defense and gamecalling second and third. But he's all three. I love the way he snap-throws to first to keep runners honest. And he plays with a kind of joy that's fun to watch. He worked in the past with Yadier Molina, who, as much as we hate him, was probably the best catcher/field general of his generation. A lot of it seems to have rubbed off. It's no accident that Alvarez is #4.
  5. Megill was very shaky last time out, so these guys better have their hitting shoes on. You know, the ones they've been wearing for the last two weeks.
  6. It certainly seems like this team is having fun. OMG is the kind of song I can see us getting tired of soon, but it's a catchy little number. Iglesias got caught lip-synching there but you have to kind of expect that, given the circumstances. The group hug at the end was kind of neat. If you don't get Apple, I'm sure clips will be on SNY shortly.
  7. Looks like we're getting a bonus OMG performance on Apple TV.
  8. Well, I was pretty close. 4+ innings, 93 pitches.
  9. McNeil's ball isn't caught because the shortstop is busy talking to the booth.
  10. Only the one run, but 36 pitches. Good thing the bullpen is rested, because this is shaping up as one of those 4-inning, 95-pitch starts.
  11. Quintana gets ahead, then nibbles, nibbles, nibbles and lets them get away.
  12. Everybody drink! OMG mention in the pre-game show......
  13. (Checks standings, sees that they're still 12.5 games out).
  14. Those long low shots from behind really do give a sense of just how fast the ball is on the batter. The good shots can make you flinch on your living room couch.
  15. Since these'll be announcers parachuting in for the night, they'll try to play up irrelevant stuff to fill the time. So get ready for in-depth looks at Grimace and O.M.G. A mention of either merits a drink.
  16. I still have the video of a 5-year-old Lefty Jr. singing 'Who Let the Dogs Out?' when they won the NL Championship in 2000. Ah, memories.
  17. Wow, still haven't changed it. I had no idea Grimace was a gay icon, but there ya go. The Grimace chugging the 24 ounce beer was impressive, though. Teams latch on to silly things sometimes (remember the Angels' Rally Squirrel?), but hey, whatever works.
  18. Who are these guys and what have they done with the Mets?
  19. Just got a bad feeling about this.
  20. Well, that escalated quickly.
  21. Squeaky Bum time with Judge up and the pond full of ducks.
  22. Do NOT let these guys back in the game, Metsies.
