  1. It's got nothing on William J. Buckner Field. It's a happy place. Although attendance could be better.

  3. Jenrry has a good year in Buffalo and stays there the whole season. He's set up for the rotation in 2012.
  4. Squirted out of this universe like a cosmic watermelon seed, never to be seen or heard from again.
  5. If I'm Sandy Alderson, I don't pay any home expenses until I'm sure my paycheck clears. Oh, then I'd call about Liriano.

He looked better at first-- quick, surprisingly decisive-- than he ever looked in the outfield; if he had one fault there, it was trying to cover too much ground... which is much less of a flaw at the keystone. The square peg where you take someone who was a bat-first corner player throughout his amateur and minor league career and try to re-make him in the middle of the diamond in the majors at age 25. Mora turned out to be just fine But not as a short-stop. Precisely my point. We're putting a lot of good wishes on this one with very little to back it up. Sure, Murphy eventually looked passable at first, but Ike Davis has closed off that option. This team has played people out of their normal positions so consistently over the years it amazes me.
  7. In that pic, it looks like Koosman's surrendering to the authorities again.

And he would never get in bed with the Dolans. I call bullshit. Well, get in line. On the other hand, like Marshall Crenshaw said, something's gonna happen. The lyrics to Some Day, Some Way are strangely appropriate. I can't stand to see you sad I can't bear to hear you cry If you can't tell me what you need All I can do is wonder why Someday, someway aww Someday, someway, yeah now Someday, someway Maybe I'll understand you After all you've done for me All I really want to do Is take the love you brought my way And give it all right back to you Someday, someway Someday, someway yeah yeah Someday, someway Maybe you'll understand me You've taken everything from me I've taken everything from you I'll love you for my whole life through Now after all you've done for me All I really want to do Is take the love you brought my way And give it all right back to you Someday, someway aww Someday, someway, yeah now Someday, someway Maybe you'll understand me You've taken everything from me I've taken everything from you I'll love you for my whole life through I can't stand to see you sad I can't bear to hear you cry If you can't tell me what you need All I can do is wonder why Someday, someway aww Someday, someway, yeah yeah Someday, someway Maybe I'll understand you Someday, someway aww Someday, someway, yeah yeah Someday, someway Maybe you'll understand me Someday, someway oh! Someday, someway, yeah now Someday, someway Maybe I'll understand you
  9. I expect him to start the year in center, and Beltran sliding over to right. Collins knows that'll be the best defensive team to put out there. 12/75/.280. Not great, but good enough.
  10. This is Melvin Mora 2000. He can hit, but his fielding will be so poor that he gets traded for some minor league help that Sandy can slot in better. No matter how hard you pound on it, the square peg will not fit in the round hole.

  12. Carlos may have a NTC, but I'm sure he'd waive it to be traded to a contender (assuming the Mets don't fit that definition).
  13. He'll have decent but not great numbers and be traded at the deadline for some minor leaguers who don't look good on the surface but actually perform well down the road.
  14. They'll try to send him down at the end of spring training, and lose him on waivers. He'll disappear with barely a ripple on the collective Met consciousness.
  15. Remember that Madoff was a financial icon, former head of NASDAQ. It was inconceivable to people that he'd be a Ponzi-schemer. If they got the tap on the shoulder that they'd made the cut and Bernie would consent to investing their money, they felt great. In a situation like that, you're not asking questions, you're looking at the client base. If all these rich and powerful people are using him, he must be good, right? That's how it went on for so long- trust. Most Ponzi schemes fall apart of their own weight pretty quickly. But the exclusivity, the feeling of belonging to a private club that the common man couldn't enter, kept it going. There were always people outside clamoring to get in, so there was always a supply of new money. The fact that the 90's and 00's were for the most part a pretty good time for investors helped to mask things, too. The high, consistent paper returns may have been good, but people didn't think they were impossible, especially to a guy as smart and plugged-in as Madoff. It's only when the market turned down sharply that the scheme was exposed. Fred could be easily blinded. But he should have had people working for him, the real bean-counters, who should have said that something was fishy. Who knows, maybe they did.
  16. Snags the plum Raymond Burr role in the re-make of Ironside.
  17. Wow, if they lose the division by a game because of this.....I'll be the most shocked person on earth.
  18. How'd they grade him in 2009? Or, put another way, how low does the scale go?
  19. Edgy DC wrote: I don't know. Outfielding isn't that nuanced. If you're a big league ballplayer and legs still work, you can do a passable job. Daniel Murphy says hi.
  20. I expect him to be a footnote in Mets lore and toil in obscurity at Buffalo for the entire season.
  21. Wow. A World Series game that lasted an hour and thirty-eight minutes. That's how long the Fox pre-game show is these days.
  22. I predict that he'll murder Luis Castillo in the Conservatory with the Lead Pipe.
  23. Not everyone's on Facebook.
  24. Nick Evans has had a busy offseason, what with becoming a doctor and chiseling his physique and all.
  25. I predict at least one player will come up to him and ask him where their car is.
