  1. Keith's Grill is located behind Section 132.
  2. My son and I had both Keith Burgers on Saturday and he was tickled pink that he got a Tootsie Pop. Burgers were awesome, too. Box Frites are a fave, and the Taqueria tacos are excellent. My #1 is the Blue Smoke Pulled Pork sammich, though. Ballpark food isn't supposed to taste that good.

Later There was this guy down the row writing furiously and mumbling something about Moonlight Graham. He and his friend jumped up as if in a hurry to get somewhere. But then a drunken Met fan cold-cocked them both, convinced they were Philly fans. Or that they weren't showing enough respect for 'Lazy Mary'. Or something. I think they wound up being led away in handcuffs. The black guy looked familiar, though. Nynex commercials, maybe.
  4. There I was sitting in the Pepsi Porch Saturday night, minding my own business, watching the Mets play a fairly crisp game against the Phillies at Citi, when I felt it. The hair standing up on the back of my neck. The urge to look up. And there it was. The DirecTV blimp spoke to me. "Change my life?" I said as other paying customers moved a few seats further away from me. "How can I change my life, oh DirecTV blimp?" Its response was simple, yet eloquent. And then the Mets melted down in the late innings for what seemed like the millionth time, and I absorbed the silent wisdom of the blimp. I cannot care too much, not this year, with a damaged team and damaged ownership. I'll be back later (I always am), but this team's just a little too painful right now.
  5. Oral cancer. Don't chew tobacco, kids.
  6. The Constant Fellating of Captain Jeter continues apace.
  7. Bucknell, as a 14 seed, beat Kansas, a 3 seed, in 2005. Just sayin'.
  8. My god, Slaten looks just like John Maine. Eerie.
  9. G-Fafif wrote: Somewhere Ed Kranepool gently strokes his hairless cat and his team-record 1,418 hits. I burst out laughing.
  10. In 2001, we were in seats by the foul pole at Shea early in the year and we caught a batting practice ball that turned out to be a 2000 World Series ball. I guess they had plenty extra. I saw Hample in action once and he had a tendency to piss off little kids (including my son) who just wanted to get ONE baseball, not 4000. Didn't know who he was until a couple of years later when somebody did a piece on him, and my wife and I looked at each other and she said, "so that was the jerk snagging balls that day".
  11. The legend grows. Keith gets divorced, then goes out and has a grand slam and 7 RBI.
  12. Hottest team in baseball over the last four games.
  13. I agree that with Thole it's less about the homers than it is about line drives in the gaps. Just keep the conga line moving and I'll be happy, Josh.
  14. I'll be upset if he DOESN'T leave.
  15. Castillo may be a prince of a guy, but that doesn't win you ballgames. He lacks range at second and was signed to a too-long contract that epitomized the problems of the Omar Minaya era. Yes, he dropped that F#$%ing ball. He has so little power that outfielders play in on him like he was the skinny kid with coke-bottle glasses in Little League. Many balls that would otherwise be hits are caught as a result. His game offensively has devolved to 'let me see if I can get a walk'. We've all seen it; when the count gets to 3-1, you could throw a 79 mile an hour fastball right down Broadway and he'd take it. When he was a good player, his game was built around speed. That speed is long gone. None of these things have a whit to do with his skin color or my own pasty whiteness. I just want something better at second base.
  16. Edgy DC wrote: Hi, I'm Manny Acosta. I just closed out that game by striking out the side in the ninth. On nine pitches. Love me. Do it in a close game that counts and we'll talk.
  17. Sandy just wants to be sure his paycheck clears before initiating any talks.
  18. I would have to think that if the Wilpons are still in control later this year that there will be pressure from within to keep K-Rod below the magic 55 game closings. I'm thinking Tanya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan kind of pressure.
  19. Edgy DC wrote: Asked like an Irishman. We also signed freeswinging Chris Shelton to a minor league deal last week, and he's definitely got some Rusty Staub in his bloodlines. Some Heath Bell too, come to think of it. Isn't Chris Shelton the guy who hit like 14 home runs in a April a few years ago, then dropped off the planet?
  20. I'm expecting Never Say Never will gross well over $100 million and his concert tour will continue to sell out, but by the end of 2011 we'll tire of him and move on to the next teen pop flavor of the month. Oh, Justin TURNER. Gosh, I have no idea.
  21. Sophomore jinx will ding him. His average will suffer and since he's not a power guy, Paulino might see more action than we might like. I'm thinking more like 5/40/.260. Not that I'm sour on him, I think he'll figure it out eventually. The end of his season will be better than the beginning.
  22. metsguyinmichigan wrote: I still like Ike Davis's Cyclones bobble with the over-the-rail catch! I have one of those and it's awesome. It's a bobble-leg.
  23. Yes, it's N (1/160th) scale. Took me six months to build in 2002, when CitiField was just a demented gleam in Fred's eye.
