Here's the bright pink Hello Kitty backpack full of candy and chewing tobacco. Take it out to the bullpen. And the pinch-homeriest season for the Mets was 1983, with 12, for no particular reason other than they were excited to have Keith around, I guess.
  2. Had high hopes, then he became nothing but an annoyance. If he gets too much playing time he'll be exposed, just as he was with the Mets.
  3. Doumit's a horrible defensive catcher. And of this 148 starts last year, only 43 were behind the dish. He's more of an OF/DH type now. Don't see him as the #1 catcher, not by a long shot.
  4. but right now, the core of the 2014 Mets is very similar to the core of the 2014 Mets. Well, yes. That's a tautology. I guess they're not big on copy-editing at the Snooze.
  5. "Ehhh....FDR, he's a compiler." I lost it right there.
  6. I have friends at Simon & Schuster who say that Jeter Publishing is going to be a headache and a half. His publicity people are driving everything and they have no idea how the publishing business works. This is all about the Jeter Brand, and they shine the halo at every opportunity.
  7. Bottom line is that even with the best pilot, it's still a defective plane.
  8. I thought the Mat Gamel move was so big it basically finished them for the off-season.
  9. Didn't know Terry was such an accomplished bongo player.
  10. Joke falls apart. Joba signed with the Tigers.
  11. Wow. Datsun dealers and the 'Good Olds Boys'! That opening has Keith in a Cardinals uni, too. Talk about things to come.

Many people I've seen on Mets Hot Stove in the last couple of weeks (Gary Cohen, Ron Darling, Jim Duquette, Andy Martino, and, I think, John Harper) all tend to prefer keeping Ike over keeping Lucas. Me, although I used to be totally on Team Ike, would rather see a Plan C, whatever that might be. And this is where I am, too. It's not like Davis and Duda haven't been given chances. They have and the results have ranged from mediocre to horrifying. It's time to move on.
  13. That's 170 pounds of donuts right there.
  14. Good stuff. Seaver in twilight, enjoying his life. It's troubling that his short-term memory is shot though. Lyme disease is a bitch.
  15. If Lolich was 170 pounds, I'm George Clooney.
  16. 4. Everyone else in the division must get hurt or play below their capabilities. Even then I'm not convinced.
  17. He doesn't pitch from a mound, he pitches from an impact crater.
  18. Newest dugout improvement? Monroe shock absorbers.

  20. ....he wears Chris Christie's hand-me-downs.
  21. When his signing was announced, my cholesterol went up ten points.
  22. Backup catcher is Recker for $400,000 or so.
