  1. Way to pick him up, Travis.
  2. Well, that went sideways quickly.
  3. Um, this deGrom fella is purty good.
  4. Should have been four spaces, not three. Glad they've got him and not us.
  5. Something KC is dreading is the continuation of the suspended game with Cleveland, where they're down by two runs in extra innings. That's about a 95% guaranteed loss that isn't showing up on the ledger yet.
  6. On a glide path now to a typical 6-8 games under .500 record.
  7. The juice wasn't worth the squeeze. In other words, tinkering to try to win ballgames wasn't worth it if you were going to be perceived as disrespecting The Captain. So the last two weeks isn't about trying to make the playoffs, it's about savoring every little drop of Captainness. Somewhere in hell, George Steinbrenner is firing people.
  8. Nitkowski needs some work but he wasn't too bad. Needs to tell you whether it's a ball or strike before describing the pitch, though. That 's OK on TV but not on the radio. A minor quibble. And yes, he had no chemistry with Howie.
  9. I thought September was about seeing what Niewy and den Dekker could do. Apparently that's by the boards.
  10. Boy, Ickey Woods really needs to lay off the cold cuts.
  11. Getting her job back would be, well, awkward. Even if she won, I doubt she'll ever set foot inside Citifield again unless it's as an owner.
  12. MFS62 wrote: And, he hits a three run homer to win it. You can't make this shit up. Later It's the 'Aaron Small Syndrome', where players who previously sucked or had no real career to speak of don the pinstripes and hit or pitch like Reggie Jackson or Whitey Ford. They inevitably regress to the mean, but they have a brief period of POOTA (Playing Out Of Their Ass), which is highly irritating and highly helpful to the Yankees. Lyle Overbay and Alfonso Soriano are two other recent examples of this phenomenon.
  13. This is the 'he did good last night so I'll start him tonight in the face of all statistical and historical evidence' move by Terry.
  14. If they sweep the Nats I'll dare to believe.
  15. Yes sir. Saul gets to write off the donations to his own foundation. Big balls indeed.
  16. Wright had said all along he wanted to be a Met for life. To trade him or let him walk would have been a PR disaster of epic proportions. Imagine how hard it would have been for Leigh Castergine to sell tickets in that poisonous atmosphere.
  17. Well, this is where this temporary blip of competence comes to a screeching halt. Nats aren't screwing around these days, and the Mets couldn't beat them even when they WERE screwing around earlier this year.
  18. Ceetar wrote: What they'll probably do: paint something pink and have a Woman's right charity host a promotion next year. They'll up the the donation per win from $2500 to $3000 for the Katz Institute for Women's Health, and call it a day.
  19. Perhaps, but remember the outcry when they let Reyes walk? Multiply that by 10 and you'd get the outcry if they'd allowed David to walk a year later. He was the most identifiable Met, and there would have been a revolt. And what if Sandy Alderson used that salary to plug 3 holes with 3 Chris Youngs?
  20. It's all speculation of course, but if Castergine knew exactly what to ask for in damages so that the Wilpons couldn't settle it immediately, then well played indeed. Bernie Madoff, the gift that keeps on giving.
  21. Even ordinary schlubs can score touchdowns against the Jets merely by donning a Patriots uniform.
  22. If only Jeffy had a mistress to tape him and Fred ranting about minorities, we'd be all set.
  23. Wow. Now THERE'S a different-looking lineup. Flores batting 2nd. A cameo appearance by Eric Young. Murph at 3rd and Soup at 1st. And a dose of Dilson. Intriguing.
  24. Saw it, loved it. It was a lot more light-hearted than most of the Marvel stuff, which was refreshing. It's why Robert Downey Jr. is useful as Iron Man, because he's irreverent while everybody else is So. Goddamn. Serious. Here, pretty much everybody was irreverent. It was fun.
  25. But I wonder if this is just 'inflammation'. I would hope that they go a little more in depth on this one, because I wouldn't be at all surprised if this needs surgery. And if it does, well, let's get cracking. Sandy was just a little too 'take two aspirins and call me in six months' about the whole thing.
