The life of a stand-up comic is very similar to that of a baseball player. You perform on this 85 to 93 percent level on a daily basis. You can't give 100 because you've gotta do it every day. When you're that road comic and doing it twice a night or three times a night, the obvious analogy to the season of a baseball player. It's an everyday thing and an up and down thing. It's all about having a short memory and being in the moment of that game. Bob Costas recently did an interview with Clayton Kershaw and Mike Trout, and at the end of the interview, he said Michael Jordan never stepped on the court and went 0-for-20, that Tom Brady never stepped on the field and didn't complete a pass. But that happens to guys like Kershaw and Trout all the time. That brutality, as a comedian, I can relate to that, because stand-up comedy is brutal that way. (Nice get from Mark Simon.) My wife read this article and said, "Damn, I had better seats for Game 6 than Jerry Seinfeld did!" She had loge seats and Seinfeld was upper deck. (And yes, we have the ticket stub.)
  2. Yeah, I'm guessing Vegas in August didn't appeal to him.

  4. This sweep just displayed how far they have yet to go to be truly competitive. There's no margin for error with this team. They either have to play pretty much perfectly or rely on the other team to screw up, like the Phillies seem to do reliably.
  5. ABY. I like the O's. And you really want the Royals to do well, because they last made noise in 1985. Which means next year is our time, baby. Tigers, meh. Had their chance.
  6. I dunno, but it seems like this team has had more than its share of nut-punch losses since, say, mid-2007. And a fair amount of THOSE have been to these Phillies. Just when it seems like they're turning a corner, WHAM! NUTPUNCH!!!!!
  7. Charlie Manuel auditioning for Sling Blade II.
  8. Back to NY to be examined for shoulder soreness. Ahhh, crap.

  10. One run not enough. Fasten your seatbelts and put your tray tables in their upright and locked position.

Then by all means start a thread saying that you were ready to cut ties with Chris Young. Hey, it's worth a shot. You want to wish for the winning lottery ticket next? Well, c' mon, that didn't exactly take Nostramus skills to see coming.
  12. Well, Terry gave him more than enough chances to turn it around, and he never did.
  13. Well, that escalated quickly.

  15. It just seems like teams give up early runs to the Mets before realizing, "Hey, wait a minute, these are the METS", and then proceed to shut them down the rest of the way.
  16. 2/3 of the earth is covered by water, and the other third is covered by Juan Lagares.
  17. Sure, I'll leave this rockin' private party so I can sit around drinking Pepsi with the losers they wouldn't let in.

  23. Sorry kids, we're gonna do this on the cheap. Tulo will go elsewhere, and the Yanks are just too perfect a fit once St. Jeter leaves.
