  1. feels like we lost Walt Terrell without being rewarded with HoJo in return...
  2. lol, I immediately thought of Leather Tuscadaro (aka, Suzy Quatro's Happy Days character) as soon as the name surfaced as a candidate
  3. The Hot Corner wrote: For all the "I love New York" talk, Syndergaard dumped the Mets pretty quickly. After being paid for 2 years (without his playing), Noah $how$ where his loyaltie$ lie. I gotta wonder if firing the players liked manager, most of the coaches and dragging their feet on the front office had any influence on his choice.
  4. =Gwreck post_id=81315 time=1637206179 user_id=56] Also couldn't Baez play third and Correa second?
  5. I don't usually like "doom and gloom...end of the world as we know it" type of movies, but I watched it because it had Yvonne Strahovski and also Chris Pratt in it...it was decent enough for a free movie, I would watch it again before watching a Will Smith (Independence Day) or Tom Cruise (mission impossible) type of movie...
  6. we do have vacancies at pretty much every defensive position other than SS/1B, so if he's willing to move to a new position, I would be onboard with Correa... a good defensive shortstop can probably play any upright position on the diamond, and still be better or equal to someone with experience there...
  7. =smg58 post_id=56117 time=1613266766 user_id=62] Jay Bruce signs a minor-league deal with the Yankees. If his criminally bad BABIP from the last two seasons normalizes, he could make a positive contribution for them.
  8. Edgy MD wrote: =vtmet7 post_id=57505 time=1615091974 user_id=80]is that allowed? Of course it's allowed.
  9. is that allowed? I see a guy that is mediocre on defense, mediocre speed, mediocre power, and a mediocre hitter that can't hit LHP...other than taking a lot of pitches, I don't see a lot of natural talent...he's like the Doug Flynn of outfielders...a solid backup but a starting leadoff hitter is a stretch...yes, I know that his OBP/OPS is obviously going to be higher than what DF was, but DF was an infielder in the 70's and early 80's...but if you had Mookie Wilson, Lenny Dykstra, Darryl Strawberry and Brandon Nimmo, would he be your starting CFer or leadoff hitter, regardless of how many close pitches that he took for a called strike 3 or a walk? I don't understand why they are thinking of batting him leadoff over Lindor, who possesses so much more talent and speed, and is a switch hitter...and he's not a good enough fielder or fast enough to be a center fielder, but doesn't hit enough to be a corner OFer on a playoff caliber team...Lindor has an .861 OPS with 277 runs scored, 57 steals, and 198 XBH's in 380 games as a leadoff hitter. Lindor also has an .851 OPS hitting vs LHP...
  10. that's pretty cool...but also pretty pitiful that Kranepool led the team in hits for that long....3 players that I'll never see what the team see/saw in them because to me they see pretty mediocre overall: Kranepool, Nimmo, and Ron Hodges
  11. no numbers but...I think that Alonso will have more RBI than Nimmo will have Runs scored...and as much crap that Alonso gets for his defense, he's still a better choice as a 1B than Nimmo is as a CF speaking of the Piazza era teams... who wouldn't have been happy to see Mike Piazza to be able to play Pete Alonso defense at 1B? Alonso may not be Dom or Keith defensively, but for the power output, he's better than a lot of choices that we've seen at 1st over the years... And other than his caught stealing, Jay Payton wasn't as bad of a CF choice as we were led to believe in 2000...only 60 strikeouts in 559 Plate Appearances, while hitting .291 with 17 HRs, 23 doubles and a triple (63 runs scored, 62 RBI)
  12. I dont like the black uniforms in and of themselves, but when you picture the somewhat successful Mets teams of the Piazza era, its hard for me NOT to picture them in black. they would have to enter the field to "who let the dogs out" with the black uniforms on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmDh9FMWOMUhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmDh9FMWOMU
  13. Matt den Leraar?
  14. Edgy MD wrote: Syndy ain't coming out on top there. true, but at least someone other than a fan or a sportswriter called the douche out
  15. I don't know if this question has been raised in this thread or elsewhere...but...When the Jays have a contract, is that in America dollars or Canadian dollars (since his employer is in Canada)? Right now, $100 Canadian is equal to about $78.76 US...So if he got paid $150 Mil Canadian, that would be about $118,130,00 US...
  16. best way to fix the overall pitching staff is to fix the defense...an outfield with Nimmo in CF is not the answer...judging by Almora's stats, he's not a MLB player on anything other than a cellar dweller...
  17. and eventhough we have changed owners, he sounded a little bitter towards the Mets for non-tendering him a few years back
  18. I just barely read that yesterday on my lunch break at work...where M Donald Grant's minion Dick Young drove Seaver to demand an immediate trade when he wrote a column stating that Seaver only wanted a salary bump because Nancy was jealous of Ryan's wife making more money
  19. there is more to being a baseball player than taking a lot of pitches...IMO, Nimmo is a good 4th guy in the OF, or a platoon guy...but not an every day corner OF in terms of hitting; and not good enough defensively to be a starting center fielder...at least not on a team with World Series aspirations...is he a better overall OFer than Doug Flynn was an overall shortstop for the Mets? yes...but we didn't exactly win a World Series with Flynn as a shortstop (sorry about the random Doug Flynn comparison but I got Tom Seaver, a Terrific Life for Christmas...and just reached the part of the book where Seaver was traded to the Reds) Sign Springer for LF...and make a trade with the Rays that nets Kevin Kiermaier for Center Field
  20. I have a feeling that Rosario will prosper in Cleveland...he's from the old school DR reputation of "You can't walk off the island"; which never fit with Sandy's mindset of taking a lot of pitches...and usually when he took a pitch, it was called a strike anyhow...so in trying to fit in with the Mets philosophy started by Sandy, it just screwed with his ebb and flow in the batters box...IMO, he's got more talent than he showed in a Mets uniform and hopefully his talent will start to show a little more when he's not under the microscope so much...defensively, I don't know what happens to him...I was real curious to see him try 3rd or the OF, but that never happened.
  21. at first it sounded like an interesting concept...however after looking at his stats...don't see the positive in it...The only things of value that Murphy had in days gone by that could help would be his ability to pretend to be a 3rd baseman and his ability to hit with XBH prowess... however, since leaving the Mets, he has played a grand total of 9 innings at third...and that was in 2016; and his offense since leaving DC, has lost it's charge... We're covered at 1B, likely have plenty of choices at 2B and DH...and he would add another LH'd bat to a team that already has too many LH'd bats that can't play defense
  22. besides Bobby Heck, I have also heard that the A's assistant GM is high on the list of considerable candidates...Sandy might already have a good working relationship with him, since I believe Sandy has worked in the A's organization since he stepped down from the Mets
  23. Edgy MD wrote: Strange that Van Wangenen, if he is indeed on the outs, is allowing himself to be left twisting in the wind, when he could just resign, wish the new ownership good luck, and keep his brand relatively undamaged. just pondering here but... I would imagine that if he "resigns", he loses his paycheck but if he gets "fired", he retains his paycheck...or maybe he is being reassigned to another role within the organization once he's been replaced...the Yankees had a tendency to do that with some of their fired management
  24. =smg58 post_id=49926 time=1604586118 user_id=62] Better players than Matz are being non-tendered. He's not returning.
  25. Edgy MD wrote: Diaz was usless? Castro? Familia? sorry...I meant starters...out of the relievers, the only one really of potential as a starter, didn't fare well as a starter...
