  2. might just be my perception but it seems like Walker relies on the defense behind him (particularly the infield defense)...with shifts going away next season, does that make him more vulnerable as a pitcher?
  3. supposedly a pretty smart sabermetrics guy....not sure why the Astros are moving on, but he sounds like a good fit to take Sandy's job
  4. If their starting CF in 2023 is someone other than Nimmo or Judge I will have deemed them having fucked this up good. sounds like Eppler is ok with Marte moving to Center to open up RF for Judge... If that's the case, general manager Billy Eppler has a plan. He told Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman of the New York Post on The Show podcast that they could slide Starling Marte over to center if they lose Nimmo. “We are comfortable with [Marte] in centerfield,” he said. https://www.nj.com/sports/2022/11/mets-have-plan-in-place-if-brandon-nimmo-bolts-in-free-agency.htmlhttps://www.nj.com/sports/2022/11/mets-have-plan-in-place-if-brandon-nimmo-bolts-in-free-agency.html https://metsmerizedonline.com/could-mets-right-field-adjustment-be-a-play-for-aaron-judge/https://metsmerizedonline.com/could-mets-right-field-adjustment-be-a-play-for-aaron-judge/
  5. Edgy MD wrote: Good job adopting. Ronny will probably see time at other positions this season. Teams tend to delay moving a guy off of shortstop until the issue is forced. thanks... I wonder if teams leave guys at SS and CF like that to help keep their trade values up...is a "prospect" that has only played SS or CF more highly regarded than a prospect that has played multiple positions (like a Jeff McNeil did as a minor leaguer)?

Mets starting pitchers (without a lot of deGrom's contributions) had the 2nd best NL ERA in 2022. Mets starting pitchers were tied for 2nd in the NL for "Wins" with 70 wins. https://www.mlb.com/stats/team/pitching/national-league/regular-season?split=sp&sortState=aschttps://www.mlb.com/stats/team/pitching/national-league/regular-season?split=sp&sortState=asc Mets overall had the 5th best NL Slugging Percentage in 2022. 8. from the phillies wiki page: As of October 1, 2022, the team has played 21,203 games, winning 10,019 games and losing 11,184.[9] the Phillies are a team historically associated with futility, being the first American sports franchise to amass over 10,000 losses; the team holds the world record for most ever losses by a single team in all of professional sports.[10]
  9. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I think someone from the group of Vientos, Baty, Mauricio, and Alvarez is going to get traded this winter. The Mets didn't want to trade any of these guys during the season but I suspect that one or more of them will be needed to swing any major trades. Alvarez is the most likely to stay. I think Baty is most likely to go, but not for any particular reason I can put my finger on. it would not surprise me at all...Mets need at least 1 more power RH'd bat to protect Alonso...I think that if they can't sign someone with an astronomically high uniform number, they would need to see what Vientos/Alvarez can do...Baty has the hype to sweeten a deal...however, neither Maurico or Vientos have the same hype that would help out a trade...Alvarez, while having high trade value, would surprise me though

  11. by the way...no idea how the 'adopt a prospect' thing works...but didn't see any mention of him, and I really liked watching him the last couple nights....he had an "inside the park" homerun to center field that was a little bit of a gift because of the Center Fielder https://www.mlb.com/news/ronny-mauricio-hits-inside-the-park-home-run-for-liceyhttps://www.mlb.com/news/ronny-mauricio-hits-inside-the-park-home-run-for-licey https://www.mlb.com/video/ronny-mauricio-s-two-run-hr?t=mlb-pipelinehttps://www.mlb.com/video/ronny-mauricio-s-two-run-hr?t=mlb-pipeline https://www.mlb.com/video/ronny-mauricio-collects-hitshttps://www.mlb.com/video/ronny-mauricio-collects-hits https://www.mlb.com/video/ronny-mauricio-joins-20-20-clubhttps://www.mlb.com/video/ronny-mauricio-joins-20-20-club https://www.mlb.com/prospects/mets/https://www.mlb.com/prospects/mets/ (ranked Mets 6th best prospect)
  12. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=mauric000ronhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=mauric000ron Looking at Ronny Mauricio's stats, nothing really stands out saying that he's going to have a MLB career...but looking at him play on the Dominican Winter League games on MLB.tv; I like his raw talent...however, I think that the Mets are making a mistake by not having a guy that is 6'3" try other positions in the minors other than shortstop...that spot is booked for awhile at the MLB level... Plus: Tall; Fast; good power; good speed; switch hitter; young (won't turn 22 until next Spring); shortstop; minus: overly skinny; low walk/OBP (old Dominican adage: you can't walk off the island); has only played shortstop and is already at AA (IMO, a little late to start trying him at CF/2B; they made the same mistake with Amed Rosario so that when he finally did try another position, he looked uncomfortable there);
  13. Benjamin Grimm wrote: =bmfc1 post_id=111843 time=1666585846 user_id=73] The 6th seed in the NL playoffs, the last team to make it into the playoffs, shouldn't win the World Series. It really is absurd that a third-place team, one that finished 14 games out of first place, is in the World Series.
  14. this is a tough one...but out of all the teams that were left once the Mets/Guardians were eliminated (It was my "ideal" matchup), I can live with the Phils vs Astros... The way that I look at it: disappointed that the Mets and Guardians were eliminated; but at least the smug Braves; over-budget/over-worshipped Yanks/Dodgers; and annoying Cards/Pads were also sent packing (Pads: Mets always seem to struggle vs them, plus their uniforms are uglier than shit, every single one of them; Cards: need I say more?)... the 'stros got caught, but it's not like anyone other than Yankees/Braves/Dodgers fans don't believe that they have been equally as guilty of doing things that were morally corrupt in building "winners"...at least the Astros don't choke vs the Yankees like most other AL teams do... the "biggest losers in sports history"? so many reasons to hate the Philthy phillies...but at the same time, are any of the current players/management to blame for my phillies angst? if you think about it, they have a bit of Mets in them: Wheeler/Syndergard: coulda/shoulda be doing this for the Mets; the 2022 Phillies like the 1973 Mets were under-achieving until something snapped mid-season; in the case of the Mets, it was Tug McGraw "mocking" M Donald Grant. https://newyorkmets.medium.com/ya-gotta-believe-5c7ad4e3683dhttps://newyorkmets.medium.com/ya-gotta-believe-5c7ad4e3683d in the case of the Philiies, it was the firing of Joe Girardi. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/bryce-harper-appears-to-take-shot-at-joe-girardi-after-phillies-sweep-first-series-since-firing-manager/https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/bryce-harper-appears-to-take-shot-at-joe-girardi-after-phillies-sweep-first-series-since-firing-manager/
  15. on the subject of Jeter/O'Neil...I don't know which bothers me the most: The Yankees retiring O'Neil's number; Jeter winning gold gloves; Jeter thinking that he should have been a unanimous first ballot HOFer...Jeter's stats are solid, don't get me wrong but...IMO, he add Ringo Starr are 2 of the luckiest people in their professions...Put Jeter at another defensive position, and on a different team all his career, and is he still a 1st ballot HOFer or Gold Glove winner?
  16. is a hurt Max still better than the alternative? likely yes...as Marte said, everyone is playing with pain this time of year
  17. I can understand anger at how the Mets tend to fail at playoff situations since 1988 (I will never forget we blew that series vs the Dodgers...or that Benny blew up on a talk show vs the Yankees...or Willie Randolph blew it vs the Phillies)...however, looking at our roster vs some of the other playoff team rosters, I can't help but feel that we were lucky to ride the perception that we were World Champion material as long as we did...I can't blame Pete for being "happy" with being in the playoffs...
  18. However, if you take Jose Ramirez away from the Indians/Guardians, would they win the AL Central? I severely doubt it...so how is he not being mentioned as the clear favorite in the AL MVP? Two other views of that tend to agree with you. The Canadian Football League calls their award the "Most Important Player". In baseball, the Sporting News (when it really was the "Bible of Baseball") used to award a "Player of he Year" for the player with the most dominant year (this year maybe Judge or Ohtani) to distinguish it from a "Most Valuable" player.(In your scenario Ramirez) Later cool...I think that there should be a distinction between "best" player and "most valuable" player...for example, When Andre Dawson won the MVP for a last place Cubs, it should have been best, not MVP...
  19. Lefty Specialist wrote: Didn't look like he was having fun against Darvish, though. He came so close to having fun vs Darvish in the first inning... I think that is the next thing that Manfred needs to fix to add more offense to the game...move the foul poles about 5 more feet out to their left and right...too many "almost" homeruns...
  20. I keep hearing/reading all this debate about whether Judge or Ohtanti for MVP but is either one really an MVP? The way that I interpret Most Valuable Player is: If this guy wasn't there, would they still be a playoff team? The Angels suck, so how is Ohtani an MVP? And while Judge pretty much had the best season of anyone, would the Yanks still win the AL East without him? Likely yes...Would the Astros machine still win minus any specific player? Most likely yes... However, if you take Jose Ramirez away from the Indians/Guardians, would they win the AL Central? I severely doubt it...so how is he not being mentioned as the clear favorite in the AL MVP?
  21. on a positive note: the bullpen pitched 4 shutout innings, and Buck found a way to use all 3 catchers in the game
  22. I'm guessing the thought process behind the game 2 mystery is all about game 1...if the Mets win game 1, then would it make sense to have deGrom pitch game 3 (hoping that we win game 2, and he would then pitch game 1 of the next series)...however, I would imagine that if we lose game 1, then deGrom would be a shoe-in for game 2
  23. =whippoorwill post_id=110263 time=1665175579 user_id=79] Yay Cleveland!
  24. looks like the Cards finally broke the ice with a 2 run PH jack by a guy that I never heard of before
  25. Willets Point wrote: Scoreless entering the 7th. If someone can push across a run soon, this could be another short game. kind of funny how the playoffs work...2 of the better offensive teams in the NL...yet, offensiveless through 6 innings
