Not sure if Reinsdorf was simply pro-ARod or if he had reason to be anti-Cohen as well ... or maybe some combo of the two. Hadn't heard about the Snakes, Reds, and Halos or what their particular beefs may have been. supposedly Reinsdorf also worked against Cohen's pursuit of the LA Dodgers before Majic Johnson's group purchased them
  2. he could be an interesting reclaim project...weird thing about his splits in 2019, he's a lefty hitter, but it was against RHP that he struggled and hit fine against LHP... with his speed, if he could give you solid CF defense with a .330 OBP and around a .700 OPS, that could be acceptable

Edgy MD wrote: Are you really that committed to the idea that Stroman and Matz are comparable? no...I just don't have any faith in either one of them...I also don't want Wacha or the mushroom man back in the rotation either...the way that I see it is we have 3 viable arms: deGrom; Peterson and hopefully Thor...the rest of the Mets pitchers from 2020 were useless, and Stroman was pretty inconsistent as a Jay, so I don't have a lot of faith in him either
  4. don't know if it has been mentioned or not, but supposedly the votes against Cohen came from: White Sox (no surprise), D'Backs, Reds and Arte Moreno's Anaheim California Angels of Los Angeles Fuck them! FEAR THE METS NEW PAYROLL! lol...hopefully we'll do better with spending big than Arte Moreno has with his Angels...Arte's spent a lot of money for the big ticket FA, without seeing it payoff in the getting to the playoff category... 4 of his players own about 70% of the Angels payroll: Trout: ~$37 Mil; Pujols: ~$30 Mil; Rendon: ~$28 Mil; Upton: ~$23 Mil; https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/payroll/https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels/payroll/

Edgy MD wrote: Stroman is probably the best available free agent starter who isn't a deplorable fascist. unfortunately in the past 4+ years, I've found that most states are overrun with deplorable fascists... I would hope that with our overabundance of LH'd hitting LFers (which includes the guy that has been pretending to be a center fielder) that we could trade for someone better than Stroman or Matz...
  6. If you believe Ken Davidoff, and there's no reason why you should, the Mets will sign Springer, Stroman, and McCann. https://nypost.com/2020/11/01/top-mlb-free-agents-2021-ranking-and-predictions/https://nypost.com/2020/11/01/top-mlb-free-agents-2021-ranking-and-predictions/ I would be ok with the Springer/McCann part...I would hope that we could do better than Stroman or Matz however in the rotation
  7. I went with Can't Beat Pete...other than deGrom's Cy Youngs, Pete breaking the rookie HR record was the best news that the Mets have had on the field in a while

  10. it's a shame about Rick, especially if related to Covid...I remember watching Rick during the 70's....
  11. Edgy MD wrote: http://leaptoad.com/mets/scorecard_graph.php?game=2607&font=1> forgive me for my ignorance on the scorecard...but, is that a scorecard that someone actually did during a game, or a recreation? I realize that I write like a 5 year old using a crayon for the first time; but holy cow that is great penmanship if it was done live at a game while trying to watch and consume hot dogs, refreshments, etc...
  12. Someone in the "Old Images of Baseball" Facebook group that Willie Mays is now the oldest living Hall of Fame baseball player...don't know if it's true, but... I remember growing up and whenever I batted lefty in batting practice (but not in an actual Little League game), I would either do the Joe Morgan arm flap, or the Willie Stargell windmill...
  13. AL: Rays; Astros; NL: Don't care but anybody other than the Dodgers and the Braves
  14. I always find it funny how these FA evaluation pages (see above mlbtraderumors link) for catchers almost always focus more on the offensive aspect of the catcher more than the defensive aspect of the catcher. Too much offensive focus while overlooking defense, is what brought us to Ramos...with how poorly our pitching staff (other than deGrom/Peterson) have done, I think that a little more attention to the catcher's and center fielder's defense might be helpful in the future. besides the obvious Realmuto, what are some of the backup ideas? James McCann? Salvador Perez? (walk year in KC) is he fully recovered from Tommy John surgery, and would KC rather not pay him $11 mil in 2021?
  15. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Who is this shit announcer on the MFY game. I'm doing a better job calling this game in my head I watch these network telecasts with the sound muted and closed captioning turned on. And I don't watch Yankees games unless it is on delay and I know that they are going to lose.
  16. Yeah...the imaginary runner on 2nd in extra innings doesn't happen in the playoffs
  17. =whippoorwill post_id=47707 time=1601422026 user_id=79] Indians are my sons favorite team
  18. Frayed Knot wrote: As per the opening post in this thread, all games in the opening round will be played at the home park of the higher seeded team. After that the series in both leagues head for bubbles, one in SoCal, the other in Texas. Now that you pointed it out, I see it....so that means all of the Yankees games are road games...nice
  19. =vtmet7 post_id=47701 time=1601418766 user_id=80] I am watching but I can't tell where. SanDiego?
  20. Kind of funny...TBS has the Rays offensive rankings in the AL for the season up on the board...it shows that the Rays were 21st in AL Rankings for batting average. I didn't realize that the AL had 21 teams.
  21. I am watching but I can't tell where. SanDiego?
  22. Where is the Rays Jays game being played?
  23. And enjoy RC Cola. I found RC Cola in the vending machine at work the other day...had to buy it for nostalgic sakes...it wasn't as good as I remembered it as a Mets sponsor as a kid...Did not realize that the company formerly known as "Green Mountain Coffee" owns RC Cola nowadays, they make better coffee than soda apparently
  24. I have never read the Athletic, mostly on the principle that I can get most information for free on the web, so why pay for a subscription... however, nowadays, the NY News, the NY Times, Newsday and even ESPN Insider (which I doubt has much to offer) are subscription services...so if I have to subscribe to one of these, would the Athletic be more worthy than the others?
