  1. don't care for any of the NL teams...however, I have 2 long suffering Reds fans as friends, so I guess I will root for the Reds since both of these guys seem like good people...plus my sister was a huge Reds fan when I was a kid...I think that she is a Mets fan now, but I don't talk sports with her much anymore
  2. I would like the Rays or the Jays to make it to the World Series, it's a shame that they have to eliminate one of them in the first round...if they don't make it, I would love to see the Astros knockout the Yankees if both advance that far...
  3. it would be real nice to see Conforto pass Duda next season, and then continue into triple digits with a contract extension...how many seasons will it take before Conforto and Alonso are #1 and #2 on the list?
  4. we use google meet at work, as long as you have a google account it shouldn't matter whether you are using Apple, Windows, Android or a Chromebook...
  5. Kingsport is now officially no longer part of the minor league system: http://metsminors.net/kingsport-franchise-officially-leaves-mets-organizationhttp://metsminors.net/kingsport-franchise-officially-leaves-mets-organization
  6. One more Bobby Bonilla day is in the books...only 15 more payments left...why is "99 bottles of beer on the wall" suddenly playing in my brain...

Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Seriously the story of how rottenly the brass turned on Alderson is sort of lost in the annals of Wilponian treachery, but if you recall they answered his appointment of Mickey with the announcement that Sandy suddenly was surrounded by Fred-friendly veteran fuckups like Omar and further punting away any momentum by giving him nothing to work with but re-engaging guys he'd already let go like Bruce then couching Sandy's "firing" in a health story as if though they were doing him a favor. Callaway made lots of mistakes but was basically left on his own out there, only to be replaced by another Omar/Brodie "big splash" that failed in Beltran, the Cano deal and now we're going to miss the playoffs in the easiest season ever to make the playoffs behind a bunch of Alderson gets having great years but no leadership. This could be a 20-game swing with the same cast next year. one "positive" in a negative season could be that at least they might be in a little better position to restock the farm system...I think that we'd currently be 10th in the draft, not great position but still not horrible position either...
  8. speaking of stadiums paying homage to other teams...has anyone seen the Mets mural at the Rays' Tropicana Field? I took my daughters and their friend to a Mets game in Tampa several years back...Mets had played several years in St Pete (which is where the stadium is, even if they call themselves Tampa) for spring training...they had a section of a wall in the stadium with Mets nostalgia painted into the concrete & I got a pic of us posing in front of it
  9. How long is Cohen forced to use St Lucie for Spring Training?

I was a little surprised that the Mets could move their AA team to NYC without having to gain the Yankees approval...didn't the Mets block the Yankees from having the Newark Bears play closer when their stadium had some construction issues? I'm a little disappointed in seeing the end of the Binghamton Mets...I was living in the area and going to SUNY Binghamton when the Mets first moved their AA team there... I originally thought that a short-season A ball ballpark would be big enough to be a AA ballpark, but from the looks of it, Brooklyn has a little more seating capacity, and similar OF dimensions to Binghamton's... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NYSEG_Stadiumhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NYSEG_Stadium https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MCU_Parkhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MCU_Park side question...With Fred leaving, do the Mets move some of the Brooklyn Dodgers tribute from Citi Field to MCU, while focusing a little more on the Mets? I have never been to MCU/Keyspan, so I don't know how much of the Dodgers nostalgia that they already have.
  11. It's stupid and I hate it. You know, like the DH, and the three batter minimum for relief pitchers rule, and every other "innovation" that actually makes the game worse. at least the DH and the 3 batter minimum have some logic to it: DH: no adult league other than the NL, didn't use the DH, so it at least created commonality (yes, I know that is a grammatically crappy version of a sentence, just can't think of how to say what I was thinking without using a double-negative); 3 batter minimum: pitching changes every batter in an inning slows things down; whereas with the runner on 2nd rule that didn't earn his way to 2nd base, has no logic at all

  13. he was mostly a bad catcher that couldn't stay healthy as a Met...we have plenty of unhealthy Dh's in the past 2 seasons...just a little surprised that he's shining for the Braves
  14. Edgy MD wrote: Besides the mask, one thing that makes it hard to judge Rojas is that he's the first guy we've ever had managing under American League rules. plus, he's used to managing kids that probably can run and field at their level in the minors...and now he's trying to fit a bunch of square pegs in round holes...defensively, he's got a bunch of Left Fielders, 2nd basemen, 1st basemen and DH's with no real catchers, center fielders, third basemen (his best defensive player is a guy that likely wouldn't have even been on a Mets roster in a normal season, and only got a chance to start because all the infielders were hurt)...offensively, he's got an over-abundance of left handed hitters with very limited speed...and a bunch of pitchers "that pitch to contact" on a team that has limited defensive abilities/range/arms... realistically, Squirrel is a 2nd baseman or a utility player...he really doesn't have the arm to play 3rd base or the outfield...but, he's blocked by Cano, who doesn't really like to DH
  15. so the best thing for a team that is slow, unathletic and can't play defense...is to bring back the mastermind that thought that speed, athleticism and defense were unnecessary elements on a baseball team?
  16. The Alou family is really the Rojas family...I knew that the Rojas family was related, I just didn't know that Alou isn't the proper last name of the Alou family, it's the mother's (grandmother's for some) maiden name...immigration apparently screwed up when the Alou brothers first came to America... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alou_familyhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alou_family The Rojas family, more commonly known in English-speaking America by their matronym, Alou, is a prominent Major League Baseball family from the Dominican Republic. The family name in the Dominican Republic is the paternal family name of Rojas, but Felipe Alou and his brothers became known by the name Alou when the Giants' scout who signed Felipe mistakenly thought his matronym (Alou) was his surname. The Rojas Alou brothers' maternal grandfather, Mateu Alou, was an immigrant from Felanitx, Spain, who immigrated to the Dominican Republic in 1898. In 1963, while all playing for the San Francisco Giants, Felipe, Matty and Jesus became the first all brother outfield in the Major Leagues.
  17. I hadn't thought about the sports allegiance vs pro/con Trump before but...after seeing this, now that I think about it; most of my friends that are Yankee fans love Trump...and most of my friends that are either Mets or Red Sox fans, are smarter than that... for the Yank fans, I would imagine that getting that 28th ring to flaunt in everyone's face would be far more important than having Trump leave office...
  18. =LWFS post_id=32179 time=1582343355 user_id=84]HEY! VTMET!!!
  19. the problem with Lowrie isn't so much his age, as much as his injury history... He's had 12 years of MLB experience, but has only had 4 seasons with more than 340 At Bats...and of those seasons, he's only had 3 seasons that I would judge as more than mediocre (2018, 2017 and 2013)...if you go to his wikipedia page, you have more mentions of being injured than accomplishments... Is a healthy Lowrie better than a healthy Luis Guillorme (from an offensive perspective) or a healthy Wilmer Flores (from a defensive perspective, and yes, I know that Wilmer is gone)? yes but...I really don't expect a healthy Lowrie in a Mets uniform
  20. I voted Wilpons will never sell...mostly because I would like to be proven wrong
  21. Straw looked pretty good for a guy picked up from a community college baseball team...
  22. so is there, or will there be a guide to "new names vs old names"?
  23. I also changed my name...I was vtmet before....no idea yet how to upload a new avatar (or even what to make my avatar)
  24. I would have home plate face the water instead of the outfield facing the water...I don't have any scientific proof, but I can't help but think that the reason why the ball doesn't carry is because of being at sea level and facing the water...
