  2. Willets Point wrote: Game 1 has begun. Bieber v. McClanahan. Our old friend Amed Rosario has the first hit of the game. and they must have thought that he was Jose Reyes, as the Indian fans kept chanting "Jose...Jose...Jose" as he rounded the bases and scored on a 2 run homer
  3. I'm of the WPIX Scooter Rizutto era. And I might even that name wrong lol Frank Messer and Bill White here who'd a thunk that was going to be the "best" yankee booth of our lifetimes? you would think that a team that has such a storied history, and has people wearing their hats all over the world; could afford to hire better announcers than the shitshow announcers that they hire...between the "it is high...it is deep...it is an AGone for ARod" idiot and the "ohhh myyyy gawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwd....Roga Clemens is in George's box" lady...the yankees notoriously have the most facepalm type of announcers in sports
  4. =whippoorwill post_id=110021 time=1664988199 user_id=79] Were you guys this rough on Hank Aaron?
  5. =Ceetar post_id=110217 time=1665148035 user_id=102] catching is physically demanding. We often underestimate the value of simply rest, good sleep, less fatigue, etc.
  6. I could see Showalter asking, very discreetly, the three pitchers going this weekend who they'd prefer to throw to and then taking that into consideration. I think that if you left it up to the pitchers: Mad Max would choose Nido; Bassitt would choose McCann; deGrom would choose whoever promises to actually contribute on offense (since he never seems to get much run support, and when he's on, the catcher is not as important as his lack of run support) speaking of offensive production from the catcher...why is it that McCann couldn't hit his way out of a wet paper bag with a sharp machete when he catches for the Mets; yet hits pretty decent in his rare starts at first base? As a first baseman, McCann has a "career" .370 batting average with a .741 Slugging Percentage and a 1.134 OPS (3 Homeruns, 1 double, 7 RBI and 5 runs scored in 9 games as a 1B)...yes, small sample size which is why I wrote "career" instead of career.
  7. When I watch the Mets play day games, I always feel like they are doing horrible... yet, according to their splits at espn, they have the 2nd best record in day games in the Majors... Mets are 33-15 in day games; Astros are the only team with a better day game record at 37-13... https://www.espn.com/mlb/standings/_/view/expandedhttps://www.espn.com/mlb/standings/_/view/expanded
  8. it's not like the Mets could benefit from another run producing hitter on the roster...they are winning games by easily outslugging the opponents virtually every night...
  9. kind of interesting that Escobar is having a rehab assignment tonight as a shortstop, not as a third baseman...when he comes back, will he be the backup SS/2B while splitting time with Baty at 3rd? (Escobar hits LHP better, Baty is a Lefty)... including Escobar's experience at 3rd, his MLB experience at other positions: 3B: 5612 innings; shortstop: 2551 innings; 2B: 908 innings; OF: 275 innings (with time spent in all 3 OF positions); 1B: 126 innings; Catcher: 1 inning; Pitcher: 1 inning; He played all infield positions in 2021
  10. the international signing thing is part of the cheating aspect...and the Braves purposely tanking to get better draft picks (and to dump veterans like Shelby Miller for prospects like Dansby Swanson) or other teams purposely tanking while giving up veterans to the Braves playoff runs, is part of the "bending the rules"...while it's legal, it still isn't right...Bowie Kuhn probably would not approve of when teams tank, or sell off their best players https://www.lexisnexis.com/community/casebrief/p/casebrief-charles-o-finley-co-v-kuhnhttps://www.lexisnexis.com/community/casebrief/p/casebrief-charles-o-finley-co-v-kuhn
  11. Edgy MD wrote: I think the greater concern with Vientos right now has been his strikeout rate. But I'm a-guessing we'll see him soonly enough. true enough, but Sandy's never seemed like strikeouts bother him unless it's from swinging wildly out of the "zone"...Nimmo used to K a lot while drawing walks and taking a lot of called strikes but it was fine because of his OBP and his "chase rate" was good...not sure how Vientos strikeouts breakdown, whether he swings wildly a lot or whether he gets a lot of called strikes... it seems like his K rates have improved in the past several weeks...since July 22 (23 games), he's got a .398 batting average with a 1.158 OPS, 18 K's in 98 Plate Appearances (not great, but improved, plus power hitters tend to get more than the normal share of K's, walks ang GIDP's)... https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=viento000mar&type=bgl&year=2022https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=viento000mar&type=bgl&year=2022
  12. Frayed Knot wrote: the braves did also cheat or bend the rules in order to stock their farm system...and when caught, they didn't really have that severe of a penalty If you've got details on that I'd be interested. I either don't know or don't remember that story. But the fact remains that Harris & Grissom were drafted in the 3rd & 11th rounds of the 2019 draft and now, as the youngest and third youngest players in MLB (both are about 15 months younger than Baty & Vientos) and with around 300 ABs combined above A-ball, one is going to be NY RoY while the one that isn't is currently hitting over .400 So it's not like other teams didn't have shots at those guys too. But the Braves have a habit of not just finding these guys but also speed-racing them to the big leagues where they somehow hit the ground running. And at the moment they've not only got a great lineup but have over half of them locked up to team-friendly rates through most of the 2020's here's 2 examples of what I was referring to, and if they got noticed in both of these instances, how much did they do that didn't get noticed? https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/32600372/agent-scott-boras-tanking-mlb-competitive-cancer-led-atlanta-braves-world-series-titlehttps://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/32600372/agent-scott-boras-tanking-mlb-competitive-cancer-led-atlanta-braves-world-series-title https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-hands-braves-penalties-for-signings-c262279086https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-hands-braves-penalties-for-signings-c262279086 and those articles don't even mention when the Braves purposely tanked, selling off most of their veteran players other than Freddie Freeman

  14. I've never understood the lopsided amount of games vs your own division; particularly with the Bud Selig 3 division setup (that he likely setup that way to give his family's Brewers a better chance to win a division)... IMO, they should eliminate divisions and just have the top 6 or 8 teams from each league make the playoffs with each team playing the same amount of games vs their league... Another "crazy" thought...nothing seems to screw up a team more than when an east coast team has to travel to the west coast, and visa versa...why not set up the leagues based on proximity to the their respective coasts? The teams closest to the Pacific coast become the AL; the teams closest to the Atlantic coast become the NL; with the teams in between being used to balance out the leagues (with teams like the Rockies, D'Backs and Texas likely going to the AL; and teams like the Braves, Pirates and Detroit likely coming to the NL)
  15. Edgy MD wrote: =vtmet7 post_id=105119 time=1661291124 user_id=80] is it time for 184 yet? Brett Benny Ayala Baty is making McCann seem like a MLB hitter...and meanwhile the guy that he bypassed is the milb player of the week I would enjoy it thoroughly if the team called him up and made a platoon squad out of the two of them.

I believe that I heard them say a few nights ago that he's got a 28 inch neck...don't know if it's even possible, or whether they were joking, or I misheard it but...that's what I thought that I heard them say...
  18. I think some of this is the sound on my TV, but I have yet to hear a word Showalter has said in any of his post-game interviews. If I were a Mets beat guy I think I'd spend my entire night saying "I'm sorry, what?" lol...every time he speaks, I have to jack up my tv volume...watched Tuesday's post game interview clip on mlb.tv yesterday, and then the "condensed game" came on after I had made the Buck Showalter adjustment...my wife yelled at me for Gary's/Howie's emotional outbursts because I forgot to de-Buck the volume on the tv... funny thing is, I don't remember Buck being that quiet when he was working for MLB Network...
  19. not sure whether this was addressed or not...or where I should discuss the topic...but since this is a Mark Canha related thread, I figured why not here... Anyone here watch the ESPN telecast on Sunday followed by the ESPN telecast last night? It was driving me nuts on Sunday (I didn't hear the Can"YA" in-game interview, I joined in later in the broadcast apparently) hearing the ESPN dorks saying "Can-YA" repeatedly when they would talk about Mar-con-a (as Gary usually calls him)... Apparently, Mrs Mar-con-a addressed the issue since then, basically saying that ESPN was wrong...and last night ESPN admitted that Mark played them for fools (without admitting that they made fools of themselves...just stating that if he went to Lisbon, it would be Mark Can"Ya")...

  22. I think that it might have something to do with McNeil's lack of production since his baby was born... Jeff McNeil Batting Gamelogs for Career Games 446 to 450 22 Plate Appearances; 2 hits; 1 run; .105 batting average; .227 OBP; .105 Slugging Percentage; .332 OPS .118 BAbip sounds like he's not hitting the ball very hard (or right at people)... Mets' Jeff McNeil: Not starting Saturday Rotowire Jul 23, 2022 McNeil isn't starting Saturday's game against the Padres. McNeil is getting a chance to reset after he went 0-for-10 with a run and a walk over the last three games. Luis Guillorme will take over at the keystone and bat seventh. Rotowire Jul 14, 2022 McNeil (personal) was reinstated from the paternity list Thursday and will start in left field and bat fifth in his return to the lineup for the Mets' series finale with the Cubs. McNeil rejoined the Mets in Chicago after he missed the entire three-game series in Atlanta while observing the birth of his child.

  24. After the game, Max treated the team - big time! https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/max-scherzer-treated-minor-league-teammates-to-airpods-expensive-dinner/ar-AAZ60tphttps://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/max-scherzer-treated-minor-league-teammates-to-airpods-expensive-dinner/ar-AAZ60tp Scherzer treated the team to a postgame dinner that featured bone-in ribeye, filet mignon and lobster, with the price running above $7,000. And, he got the team air-pods. Later guess Max really ponied up for the rumble ponies
