That's most likely a product of the photographer using a wide angle lens, probably 24mm or 28mm in Ed's picture, thereby exaggerating the size of anything closer to the camera. That's what Anthony Weiner was looking to do as well. Yes, but the physics of lens design can only go so far...

Here's an example of what different focal lengths can do to a portrait. While the model's head and shoulders are roughly the same size in every photo, look at how the focal length emphasizes or de-emphasizes the size of her nose: [fimg=1000]http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d80/dgwhitham/Portrait-Focal-Length-II.jpg[/fimg]

Or, for that matter, what was the rush to get Niese out of there? I was mildly shocked that Collins said this in the post-game: Terry Collins said Niese is susceptible to big innings and he wanted to get him out before he had one.

  8. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: "Yo Anus?" Seriously? We're piling on the guy after the amazing streak he's had? We're not up 6 games without him. He hasn't been the same since Stony Brook alum Tom Koehler drilled him in the hip. Perhaps there's an injury there that he's been getting over. I don't think it's a coincidence that he went 0-19 after being drilled...
  9. Just showing what a generational thing reading the newspaper is, one of my co-workers, a huge sports fan, isn't at all familiar with Madden or Bondy, and only knew Lupica by name...
  10. This would be cool: Beating the Royals in the World Series, opening in KC next year to watch them raise the American League Championship flag, and then going home to raise the World Champions flag....
  11. At least going to the world series. I'm convinced that this is one of those magical runs...
  12. Gwreck wrote: Interesting question. Of the 5 NL teams that will make the playoffs in 2015, where do you rank the Mets? Honestly? I see us as #3 at best, and maybe #4. It doesn't mean we won't win the NLCS but I don't think it's unfair to consider it. We beat the Dodgers in the NLDS, beat the Cardinals in the NLCS*, and beat the Royals in the World Series. *The winning run scores on a walk-off passed ball through the legs of Yadier F*cking Molina

  14. I want them to win the whole thing. I just won't be too upset if they don't
  15. Worries? They've far surpassed anything I could have hoped for. They're playing with house money as far as I'm concerned.

Travis d'Arnaud (R) C 7. Lucas Duda (L) 1B 8. Ruben Tejada (R) SS 9. Jacob deGrom (L) P That's one hell of a line up.
  17. Edgy MD wrote: Since the deal, Cespedes has produced at a level that has no parallel in the teams 53-year history. In 41 games for the Mets, he has 17 home runs and 42 runs batted in, along with a .309 batting average. Just for the sake of discussion, is it really true that this has no parallel? Is it really true that his quarter-season of .309 / .356 / .691 // 1.048 is unprecedented? I mean, it's probably unprecedented as far as dovetailing perfectly and magically and out-of-the-blue with a Mets stretch run, but surely Piazza or Beltran or Duda or Strawberry or McReynolds or Segui or somebody has had a similar month and a half somewhere, right? I'm thinking, at least power-wise, of Kingman in 1976 before he tore up his thumb. didn't he have 30 homers at the all-star break?
  18. The Player of the Week Award goes way back... the first Mets player to win the award was Jerry Koosman, in 1973! Mets Players of the Week The Mets longest stretch without a Player of the Week is 159 weeks, from August 17, 2008 (Johan Santana) to September 4, 2011 (David Wright). That broke the previous record of 147 weeks, from July 31, 1977 (Steve Henderson) to May 25, 1980 (Frank Taveras). How did 1980 have more players of the week than 1986?
  19. I'm going to take a shot, and say spots 2 & 6 were also HoJo in 87
  20. What Monk said. I love all of them, except Matt Harvey.
  21. Change the names, and that reads just like the Mofo in 2008...
  22. I love it when Adam Rubin plays the part of troll: #Mets probables: April 4 at KC: deGrom April 6 at KC: Matz April 8 vs. PHL: Syndergaard https://twitter.com/AdamRubinESPN/st...00289102946304
  23. Um - this is good news: http://nypost.com/2015/09/08/mets-remove-a-huge-obstacle-in-re-signing-yoenis-cespedes/ Seeing the potential mutual benefit, the Mets and Cespedes representatives changed the clause in his contract that would have given the Mets only five days after the World Series ended to sign him long term or not be able to do so again until May 15, The Post has learned. Thus, rather than be under a short-term constraint to decide whether to sign Cespedes as a free agent, the Mets can let the process play out and be like any of the other 29 clubs that can negotiate and sign him at any point this offseason.
  24. So, Harvey is more interested in his future earning potential than helping this team win? 1. F'n shocker 2. He's Roger fucking Dorn
