  5. Something doesn't jibe for me here. Players are better at wasting pitches they don't like to work the count, but there are more strikeouts than ever... I still say that MLB should force umpires to call the original armpits to knees strike zone. That will speed up games.
  6. I think he'll bust out with a complete year. I think he rushed back too soon last year, and that was a contributing factor in his rough start. .310 33 95
  7. Taking (not so)little DGW July 7th. May visit her Easter Sunday in MD and catch a game at Camden Yards, and thinking about catching a game with her in Toronto in September...
  8. Edgy MD wrote: Release younger players from the bonds of controlled salaries and and sole rights and the older players will be worth more money. Oh please. "the bonds of controlled salaries"? Maybe you can put out a late night ad like ASPCA - "for only $20 a month, you too can help these poor suffering, underpaid ballplayers..."
  9. I am so fucking sick and tired of the tail wagging the dog... This is typical - I have a nut allergy so you can't have any... Here's an idea, how about declaring sections nut free instead of an entire stadium? My God-daughter has a horrific nut allergy, so much so, that my sister-in-law was able to get funding for a service dog especially trained to detect nuts. So we are very much in tune with what has to be done for her. But this is fucking nuts.
  10. My money is on Conforto. I think he came back too early last year, and will have a big bounce back this season.
  11. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: People who knew Carter for decades were never able to determine with certainty how much of Carter was Carter and how much was Carter acting like "Gary Carter." I don't think he ever knew This is where I feel the need to pull out my favorite quote by any writer about any baseball player. I think Jerry Izenberg had the best take on Gary Carter: "Gary Carter may come off like a cliché, to the point where a lot of other players mistrust him, but the genuine article comes along so rarely it can be hard to recognize when it looks you in the eye."
  12. I'd go with Darryl in 84, and Doc in 85
  13. If they get Gio, I'll start having a man crush n BVW
  14. As with most of these covers, I go with the general design, the photography used, and whether the cover was otherwise too busy. Badness checked all of the boxes for me, that is why I voted for it.
  15. Willets Point wrote: "Uh, Mr. Stark, I - I'm actually feeling much better!" "Mr. Stark? Mr. Stark? Where'd you go, Mr. Stark?" Look closely. Pepper's signing the checks, Happy's all angry, and ain't no Tony in sight. Pepper has been signing the checks since she was named CEO in Iron Man 2. As great as this looks, I don't trust Marvel previews. They've never deceived us in the past have they?

It would be in the plot of land that used to house the Jai-Alai Fronton about a mile from my house. Since neither of those are feasible, I wish they would make the rotunda more-Metcentric. A Seaver statue right outside would be a nice touch.

Wilpon, who always resented the GM (who in turn barely concealed his contempt for the COO), relishes the idea of undoing Sandy's handiwork. I’m sticking with the theory that BVW knows something about Noah that we don’t, and that something is the reason he’s shopping him.
  22. I'm in the "I kinda like it" camp. I like that BVW has been very proactive so far this winter, and I can't wait to see what's next.
  23. Centerfield wrote: I go back to my theory on Bryce Harper. The guy looks like a douchebag, and he has douchebag hair, but I haven't seen anything or read anything that suggests he actually is a douchebag. In fact, all of the quotes I've read about him suggest that he's actually a pretty decent guy. I remember how gracious he was in 2015 after the Mets won the division. I'm ok to give him the benefit of the doubt, but understand if others don't. I mean, I get it. That hair. I always got the feeling that he is this generation's Chipper - he loves playing the villain, but does so with a wink to let us know he's in on the joke.
  24. If BVW is indeed hell-bent on trading Noah, that tells me he knows something about him that we don't.
