    In an age when a SP goes 7 and it's considered rare the 5-inning minimum requirement for a SP to get a win needs to be revisited (of course, the "win" is silly but it's still a thing so let's forget that it's silly). Make it 4. No one will win 30 or even 20 because of such a change.

    I hate the overslide rule. I get it, it's always been part of baseball, but we didn't always have replay. Unless you overslide it dramatically (I don't know how to define that) you are safe.

    Wayne Randazzo will be doing the PBP tonight on Apple+, so put on Apple+ now to watch the 1st episode of the new season of "For All Mankind", and when it's over it will be gametime.

    It's inconvenient because the Mets might need another OFer if Marte is out (and Jankowski is already out). Terrance Gore has 3 WS rings (KC--UGH!!!; LAD; ATL) and is fast. His first ML hit was off Max. Zero was his number in KC and zero is the number of ML HRs he has hit.     I've read this as a possibility in The Athletic. It makes sense although I wonder if they would want to get a new catcher, who has to learn the pitchers, midway through the season.

    This one is a MLBN "Showcase Game", outside of the NY area, with Stephen Nelson, Yonder Alonso, Cliff Floyd, CC Sabathia. I'm not familiar with Stephen Nelson but he is also the PBP person for Friday's game against the LAA exclusively on Apple+ (Stephen Nelson, Katie Nolan, Hunter Pence, & Heidi Watney).

    Dave Roberts is getting close to Don Mattingly territory. At a minimum, this makes the rookie stand around.

    When Gary asked, "if you pitch Diaz for 2 innings, do you lose him for 2 games?", Ronnie said "yes", which is true but... you might not need him in either of those games and you needed him for a 2d inning today. (That doesn't mean that Buck was wrong.)

    "Are you sure that's the rule?", Roberts asked (not a verbatim quote) and the umps said, "F you, we're the F'in umps, you're out of the game, and if you don't have a pitcher ready to throw in 30 seconds you forfeit" (not said and Roberts would have accepted that) but instead they said "you're right, we stupid, let's check" (said in effect) so everyone wasted 11 minutes because Roberts didn't know the rule and the umps had no stones.

    That seems like at least the 2d time this season where Marte thought he had walked but a borderline pitch was called a strike and then he blasted a HR.

They also face a LHP tonight and likely tomorrow so Dom wouldn't start and with Williams starting you don't expect more than 5 innings so another RP is more helpful than Dom's left-handed bat for these days.

    I watched the 1st inning with a WSH fan and he was beaming after his team scored 3 in the first. I just said, "this Mets team is relentless." I hope he's listening in the car now at 6 to 3.
